I have read that an excess of Vitamin A can cause hair loss but in many of the hair loss supplements that claim to promote healthy hair such as NUHAIR have a huge amount of vitamin A in them.It is usually the first ingredient in the product. What is excess and why would the supplemets use a large amount of vitamin A if it contributes to hair loss?

Excessive amounts of anything can be problematic which is why the phrase "anything in moderation" is often so accurate.

 

I haven't seen any studies that proves Vitamin A either causes or prevents hair loss.

You have to ingest a lot of vitamin A to have significant problems. You urinate out all vitamins except A, K, E and D. These are the ones that can do damage but a normal diet can supply you with enough vitamin A.
