Regular Member cottonnc Posted June 22, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 22, 2008 I have been reading posts and its seems the general opinion of patients here is if unless you are having a small procedure 1000 or less then the fue is not really worth it ? And that is because with larger Ht's the amount of follicles to be harvested would leave scar like wound? Any comments on this? thanks My Hair Loss Blog - Hair Transplant with Dr. Cooley

Regular Member Bruce65 Posted June 22, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted June 22, 2008 Based on what I learned, the FUE can be used for any numbers of follicles but there are pros and cons with that. Pros: There is no scar from the area where the follicles are extracted Cons: The Extraction takes longer and some follicles can be damaged during the extraction since the follicle's roots are not all aligned and uniform. The Cost is usually twice more that typical surgery.
Administrators Pat - Community Publisher Posted June 22, 2008 Administrators Share Posted June 22, 2008 Bruce, Thanks for your helpful response. I agree except that FUE, does create a scar. But since the round punches used to punch out the follicles are typically less than 1mm the scars then to be so small that they are typically not visible unless viewed under very close inspection. In addition as the small round wound heals it typically contracts thus reducing the scaring area to less than 1mm. One other advantage of FUE is that healing and recovery time is typically faster than strip surgery. However, another disadvantage of FUE is that the donor area typically needs to be shaved down. For patients who typically wear their hair longer this can be an issue. To view a comparison of FUE and strip surgery, including video of FUE being performed, click here . Cottonnc, best wishes for selecting the procedure that is optimal for you. Pat Never Forget - It's what radiates from within, not from your skin, that really matters!
