Senior Member Anonymous Posted March 8, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted March 8, 2006 I've been noticing that my scalp has been really itchy. Not all over, just the front hairline, specifically, the center part where I'm losing hair. And its not a mild itchiness, its so extreme that I feel like I have to pick at it which just makes it worse. I end up scratching away at thin hair follicles that end up falling off sooner because of my scratching. I'm only on propecia right now and I read that zinc helps stop the itchiness, but even 50mg of zinc doesn't seem to be helping the itch. Is anyone else suffering from itchiness only in hairloss areas? Regimen: 5% Minoxidil twice a day (morning and night) on front hairline, Proscar (broken into 5 pieces) one piece every night. MSM 1000 Mg, Zinc 30 Mg, Vitamin E, Multi-Vitamin. Baby Shampoo for showering.

Regular Member hrthr Posted March 9, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted March 9, 2006 I don't know the few times I have used Rogain it made my scalp itch. I think it is the alcohol. I believe there are some versions without the alcohol rather than Rogain. You might try some hair oil on your scalp for a good 30 minutes to an hour prior to showering off. You can find this stuff in the hair section. It has seemed to help me post op with a dry scalp. Hope this helps
Administrators Pat - Community Publisher Posted March 13, 2006 Administrators Share Posted March 13, 2006 I have also heard many reports that Rogaine/minoxidil can cause itchy scalp. You may want to use nizoral shampoo, which is very good at treating and calming scalp inflamation. Senior Member GuitarPlayer Posted March 13, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted March 13, 2006 I would just like to add that Neutrogena T-Gel and T-Sal have been very effective for me in reducing the scalp itchiness and irritation caused by minoxidil. Senior Member Robert_ Posted March 14, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted March 14, 2006 I use both NIzoral 2% and Neutrogena T-Sal to keep the inchiness of minoxidil at bay and to stave off any unnecessary sebum buildup. Both help tremendously with any adverse scalp conditions if used ~3 times per week. I alternate with Nizoral Actives shampoo and conditioner the other 4 days per week. If you cannot get your hands on a prescription for the Nizoral 2%, the 1% is almost just as effective (you probably won't notice a difference) and is available in stores under the label "Nizoral AD." -Robert ------------------------------ Check out the results of my surgical hair restoration performed by Dr. Jerry Cooley by visiting my Hair Loss Weblog
