Regular Member MeHairBeGrowin Posted February 15, 2004 Regular Member Share Posted February 15, 2004 Men's Hair Restoration. They are a rip off clinic like Bosley. Like Bosley they have offices, plague like, through out the USA. Their doctors are cast off losers who can't find work anywhere else and want to make a quick buck. My guess is most doctors who work for these places are sociopaths like Bosley and Straub, no ethics, Their goal is to fill their chairs and maximize the use of their staff. Full utilization of chairs and staff in turn provides a very profitable revenue stream that they can dip into and get rich. As well as refuel the informercial program and begin the cycle all over. They do their best to lure in anyone they can. Typically attendance, i.e. showing up, is all you need to do in order to be an acceptable candidate for surgery; to young, not enough hair, etc, none of those things matter. What is important to them is to get you in the chair and milk your wallet until dry. If your HT ends up looking OK great, if not tough shit, read the fine print budy. When is comes to the surgery itself, they spend then minimum on equipment and pay staff crap. This way they keep cost down. Only the surgeons and the Sales staff (Consultants) make good money and only when someone is in the chair. The rest of the staff is low paid, overworked, poorly supervised with high turnover (But profitable). This results in poor training and poor quaility work. So even, if by a miracle you found a doctor with some skill in one of these clinics, there is the strong likely hood that the people doing the majority of the work will screw something up. Repeat business is not an issue because it takes about a year in most cases to realize you have been screwed in the ass. By then it is usually to late to sue and they have milked you for all they can for the year, so they want nothing to do with you anymore. Even sadder is if their lucky, after a year you will call and say their work sucks, then they will convince you they can solve the problems with more work, there by tapping into you wallet for another year. This they will try to repeat year after year until you stop believing them. They don't really worry about word of mouth, because most guys are so embarressed and ashamed with what they let these clinics do to them hide in there homes and under hats. (It's kinda like going to a party and getting drugged and then ganged raped by your so-called friends. It is very shamfull and hurtfull internally to the individual) Their new business comes from informercials not word of mouth. I realize this sounds saracastic, but it is really how they operate. That's why the doctors need to be sociopaths like Bosley and Straub. Else, in the end they can't deal with the results of their work. Most doctors at these clinics last less then 2 years. Their consciences catch up with them and they leave. The ones that stay at it are the true sociopaths like Bosley and Straub. Go to any of the clinic sites, and see how long the average doctor has been working there. Track one down who left and ask them about everything I have just written. Senior Member EastCoast Posted February 15, 2004 Senior Member Share Posted February 15, 2004 Well said. I was in denial for over a year till my ht grew in and I realized it was shxx. I am still ashamed. I see a lot of people get ht and never come back to this site. Dr. Gallagher is a true Bosley.
Senior Member arfy Posted February 15, 2004 Senior Member Share Posted February 15, 2004 The first post is overly blunt but is on target in many many respects. Doctors who haven't built themselves a good reputation yet want to work at these big franchises, where there is a built-in clientele. It's hard for one guy to do the surgery, talk to prospective patients, run the office on a day to day level, AND worry about advertising the business. A big franchise takes some of the burden off, and supplies a steady stream of complete newbies who saw the TV commercial. These guys are like lambs to the slaughter. Whether the consultant can convert the sale is another issue. In return for reaping the rewards of the national advertising, the local franchisee kicks back a certain percentage to the main office. An established doctor might possibly make more as a solo operator, but hair mill work may be more dependable. A lot of the doctors are new and still need to pay off their med school. Other docs are burned out and just want to show up every day and coast along. Many of the doctors in this field just are not very talented, and sometimes not all that smart. They just want to do something to make money with their medical degree. Medical school was expensive and it was a lot of hard work.. they figure that now it's time to start getting PAID. Hair transplants are a good choice because it's a cash-only business, with no red tape from HMOs or insurance companies. Regarding the consultants... many will ask what your income is, and make medical recommendations based on the size of your wallet. An interesting experiment would be to go to a hair mill consultation, being a good candidate with marginal income. See how fast they hustle you out of the office, once they realize there isn't going to be a commission because you can't afford it... or will they try to sell you 50 grafts at a time? The comment about telling unsatisfied patients that they need more surgery is right on. That's the clinic's answer to every complaint... you just need additional surgery.
