carlos.uk
Hi , i am from the UK and new to this site and am hoping for a bit of advice . I am seriously thinking of a hair transplant in the next year and have been looking at Hasson and Wong . I have quite severe hairloss , i would say a 6 to 6+ . I would like advice on : Roughly how many grafts would i need to have a decent coverage ? What would be the rough cost of this ? When the donar scar has healed properly can you get a second donar strip ? Any advice greatly appreciated , thanks
Moderators Al - Moderator Posted February 7, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 7, 2008 Hi Carlos. Welcome to the forums. If you're a NW 6+ then you should probably read this thread http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/showthread.php?t=148644 With a high degree of hair loss it may not be possible to get decent coverage although a lot of that depends on your age. How old are you? It will generally take a lot more coverage for a 25 year old to consider it decent than it takes to make a 50 year old feel the same. You should try posting a picture here. To answer the question of can you go back to get a 2nd procedure. Yes you can if you have enough donor hair remaining. I think most people end up getting 2 or 3 procedures. You can get the front half covered on the first session, so that you'll still have a bald spot in the back, but good hair up front and then you go back later to fill in the rest, but it's not necessary if you're OK with having a bald crown. Doing it that way allows you to wait a few years until you save enough money to pay for the 2nd one in the top/back (if money is an issue). Bill - Seemiller
carlos, Welcome to our community forum. As a very rough estimate on the number of grafts you will need, take your level on the norwood scale and multiply it by 1000. Alternatively, you can use our animated graft calculator to help you determine approximately how many grafts you will need. Given your high degree of baldness, you will most likely need at least 2 hair transplant sessions. The cost will vary from clinic to clinic but as a former norwood 6 with a decent illusion of fullness after receiving 7550 grafts in 3 hair transplant surgeries, I spent almost $30,000. Clearly it is expensive and should be seen as an investment. Only you can make the decision as to whether or not it is worth it. How many grafts you have available in your finite donor supply however, is another question. Consult with at least 3 quality hair transplant surgeons and talk about your long term hair restoration goals. Hasson and Wong is certainly a great choice as both Dr. Hasson and Dr. Wong are members of the Coalition. You may also want to consider consulting with Dr Bessam Farjo and Dr. Nilofer Farjo who are located in the UK and also Coalition members. Be sure to research all physicians you are considering. I hope this helps. Bill
