How many FU's have been transplanted?

Hello, I am 35 and did my HT at the beginning of the last week in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil. I have a more diffuse type of hair loss, so I decided to thicken it. Before that I was researching at this page and I must say it helped me a lot in my decision and to take away the fear that I had. It impressed me, how many people went through the same corridor. And how many helpful persons are driving this forum. Thanks!!

The doctors here are quite competent - espacially in the field of plastic chirurgie - and the one I choosed seems to be one of the best in the continent in HT. He is doing this since 7 years now, is always occupied with HT and comes from a plastic-chirurgical background. His advises seemed very responsible (hairline not to far downwards - apearance in later years, considerations about the amoun of hairs, that should be taken from the donor-area, the scar, and that before the OP he could not say, how many FU's he will be able to take from the strip...). He did of course the FU-Type of Transplantation. I had a good feeling and still have it. The scar seems to be healing fine and the scabs are gone after 10 days.

But now I would like to know, how many FU's where taken from my back-haed; what amount of work was been done and last but not least, what can I expect. The assistent of the Doctor spoke a very good english (not like me) and she was member of the operation team, which - as far as I could see - consisted of for or five persons. During the operation I was sleeping and when I woke up everything was done. The duration was about 4 and a half hours. The assistent of the Doc told me later, that she counted 3853 FU's. And she said, that I had a lot of 4-hair units which had to be placed in the top-area (not the crown...) The crown was not coverd by this procedure.

First I was amazed by this number. But while I was thinking about it, a litle bit later, I asked myselfe, if this is really possible. I Consider this number and devide it with the minutes during the OP->makes about 14 FU's in a minute-> and these are about 4 seconds per FU!!! Is this possible? Was I the sleeping widness of a new world record? When I did my researches here I found a lot of numbers related to FU's and OP-time and there was no one which was close to this. At least I didn't find any. But maybe I missed something?! Then, the second mathematical consideration is this: the region covered by the HT was aproximately 10x12 cm -> 120 sqcm -> so there shoud be an average of about 32 FU's per sqcm. When I count theFU's in the hair line area, which is probably the densest, I come to not more than max. 15. So this is about the half. And I could see, that the rest is not that dense covered...

But maybe I'm completely wrong with these estimations and everything is totally different??!!

I would really appreciate if somebody could help me finding a solution for this miracle.

Thanks, Maximilian

Sounds like to me they were giving you the number of counted hairs instead of fu's.

Ask how long the strip was taken from your head and how wide. Than we can come up with some accurate estimates.

Today I talked with the assistent of the doc and she said, that she gave me the number of hairs, not of fu's. The widht of the strip was 1 cm > with an everage of 80 fu's / sqcm and the length of 24 cm it should have been ca. 1920 fu's (which in turn with a middle of two hairs per fu is ok). BUT she also said, that it was quite difficult to find place for the implants, because when they made the OP they discovered, that I have a lot of "white" hair, which was not so obviouse bevor the procedure. That there was not enought space for so many grafts. So why they didn't place them in the crown region like I said before? What ever this means, it gives me the feeling that they didn't transfered what they took. Also due to the time of the OP (4,5h >> then it should have been 7 fu's per minute or 8 seconds for one fu).

Therefor I asked her wher all the crafts are then. And she sayd at my had. So ??“ I'm going to have a consultation with the doc in the next days. They want to show me the charts and where they placed how many crafts of which kind. But how can one ensure, that the charts and explanations are right?

Get a second opinion I would suggest, before you go back to your Ht doctor.

That way, you could have more substantiated

facts to counter with and the doctor is a lot less likely to try to lie to you.

You should ask for your money back on the hairs that were NOT transplanted but that you paid for anyway.

Good luck
