  1. microprose If you want to gain lean muscle mass you must eat at least 1 gram of protein for each pound you currently weigh. I am 209 so I eat at least 209 grams of protein everyday...You can do this easily via whey protein powder. I also take 5 to 10 grams of glutomine each day. This is a amino acid that aids in recovery. I was taking creatine 5 grams a day as well but had cycled off of it since I had a HT last month. I have not gone back on yet for no particle reason. Now I have done this for 2 years and 3 months and have had great results. I have not noticed any changes in my hair because of this regime. Now if you were to do steroids...that can change everything...personally I would not go there. Gain the muscle the natural way without all the negative. When training , nutrition is just as important as the weight lifting. good luck big it up
  2. scarymemo I need some clarification here.. I have been weight training for just over two years and have gone from skinny 180 lbs. at 6.2 height to a nice 209 lbs. with 12% body fat. As you know it takes hard work to get these gains. I eat a lot of whey protein and eat as clean as possible and still stay sane!! I still enjoy my Bud lights several times a week as well. I supplement with glutomine and have cycled off creatine recently. I have just started taking propecia for a month now. I have not noticed any weight gain or water retention . I train with weights 5 days on and do some sort of cardio once or twice a week. My job keeps me walking a lot as well. I am 38 and have had 6 HT's. The most recent Jan 14. My question is, is the propecia gonna work against my training program? I certainly dont want to go backwords with my lean muscle gains. Do you have any advice, you seem to be ahead of curve here on this subject. thanks and aloha big it up
  3. dude dont go with hair club for men...a hair system is a pain...and what about when your new chick finds out for the first time, seems it would be uncomfortable....I would rather be receeding, than tape and glue that thing to my head. take the propecia and later on ie late 30's or so then consider HT's...you have to plan for future hair loss...whats you moms dad's hair like?? that can help you determine what you might look like. good luck big it up
  4. nottelling I thought I had good work from Nuhart(90's) until a friend went to Shapiro, so I went as well and vocor1 is correct, dont go with old technology. Rose and Shapiro were completly honest with me and what was good for me not their wallet. You may have gotten lucky with your first visit to Bosley, why risk it...once you get a bad HT all you end up doing is trying to fix it. big it up

    Any luck?

scarymemo you have summed up hair systems perfectly...!!! Getting a HT was what works for me...the fear of some chick telling me me hair is so nice only to find out its just glued on is too scary!!!! big it up
  6. 8675 I have had 6 HT's done. With the first 5 all the new hair came out wavy and crooked, after about 12 months, (6 inches of hair) it straightend out. My hair is normaly very straight. The good news is the crooked hair does give a sense of more density. My most recent HT I had done is Jan wont start growning till April. I would not worry...its a minor detail that only lasts a short time. big it up
  7. wow.........I can hardly belive that this kind of scam can exist today!!!! their work would have been horrible back 15 or 20 years ago... Have you gone to Shapiro to get it fixed?? I noticed you used them on your site. Try to talk to some lawyers, you might find one that wants to stick it to these butchers!!!! good job letting this forum know how bad they are..as you might have noticed not much us talk to kindly of these "hair mills"... good luck and give some updates... aloha big it up
  8. Paul Its a great feeling to have your Doc. give you that extra confidence by following up with phone calls etc....My Doc. Paul Rose has called twice to my surprise...many years ago at Nuhart they never called me back for a follow up...Hair mill hell!!!!! Doc. Rose spends two weeks in MN at Shapiro then 2 down in Tampa. Good luck with the waiting period...Personally,I am looking forward to mid April!!! aloha Big it up
  9. Paul148 aka Joe good job in your post...sharing your experiences helps everybody....thats why I share mine with others here...now we get to wait for the little suckers to start growing in....your doc was Sharon Keene, is she the same doc that works with Shapiro on MN??..I think she is...either way...you look great....good luck and great attitude!! aloha
  10. 40 something Your lucky the propecia and rogaine have been working...I had no idea Nuhart has been around since the 80's... how many HT's did you get done there?? I cannot remember any of the peoples names there...my consultant may have been Jay?? not sure...cant remember the doc's name... do your research this time around....you only have so much donor hair left...make sure the doc you pick has done lots of corrective work, not just first timers....as I told Dr. Rose and Dr. Shapiro, " you guys need a good challenge sometimes, these guys with virgin donor hair are a piece of cake" ...I laughed, they just kept looking at my nasty scars and lack of donor hair!!! Keep everybody informed on your decision...I feel like if I can help somebody in this forum , I will save someone a lot of disappointment and $$$.....As a 6 timer HT guy...I am actually use to those needles that numb ya!!! aloha
  11. WTF wow you really had 8 HT's done and you still wear a hat...what did they do wrong at Nuhart?? My work is still presentable but inferior when not combed right with lots of hairspray... SAmmy 1983 sorry about the state of mind your in....I was there too....talk to several Doc's ...only the experts please.... and keep taking your propecia...have you tried rogaine??? its does work on some people and its cheap in the generic form... Try shaving your head..I know you want hair but it will be liberating to shave it and go from there...growing it long to comb over is bad idea...at least the shaved look is in....no way was it in when I started going south back in the 80's in college. good luck and keep researching but dont let your hair dominate your mind..its important yes, but overall health is more ...it might not feel like it...but it is.....when it comes to your self image....its up to you to have that game winning attitude....yes hair would help...its what we "do" have not what we are wanting....go to the gym and build your body up...you do have control over that and it will help with your confidence. take care and keep us posted..
  12. WTF If this is possibly your last one you can do..make sure your going with somebody whom can "fix" your previous work. I had Doc Rose get 631 FU's from a donor strip on eitther side of my head and he pulled out 40 or so of Nuharts big ass mini's and trim them down and reinsert them. He also took out a big ole scar...Dr. Rose and Dr, Shapiro said there still little things they can do by taking out the big ones and getting a little out of the back of my head. Oh they also took out some mini's that were too big and pitted in my hairline... Just looking at my hairline now it looks different ie better.. and after it grows out it will look even better... If you havent called them yet, do yourself a favor and check em out...I referred a friend to them this week and I got Dr. Roses cell phone number, my friend called him up and could not belive how friendly he was and that he took time out to talk to him about his current hair needs. You definatly need to go somewhere that knows repair jobs... they are a lot more challenging. good luck and keep me posted. aloha
  13. WTF Yeah my Nuhart experience was me asking how much work would I have to get done to get coverage and density..and their reply was well one more and you would look great....How about after you go in the next day and they send in a salesman to try and pitch your next appointment!!! what a "hair mill" they were....Did you get any corrective work done later or was all your donor used/wasted?
  14. Rugby I noticed PRoseMD replied in this forum. If you dont know him he works with Shapiro and has his own clinic in Tampa. I had corrective work done with him at Shapiro two weeks ago. He took out about 40 mini grafts ( nice word for PLUGS ) and trimmed them down and recycled them. He also took out a nasty scar I had from previous "hair mill" work. It would be worth a trip to see him. I have to utmost respect for Rose and Shapiro after going there. Good luck.
  15. you have to think down the road....I have had 6 HT's done...the most recient was to fix the old 1990"s lack of FU's HT's. you are gonna always want more but you have to think when I am 40 or 50 am I gonna look right!? I think I look good now, or at least as best as possible..as long as my hair isnt wet!!!!!.only go FU no mini or micro grafts....they are the 8 track players of HT's...listen to us guys that have spent tens of thousands already...after a while you run out of donor hair...it does not matter that I still have lots of $$$ to spend.... good luck
  16. I have a friend that really likes the work I got done a Shapiro's clinic with Dr. Rose. He is a NW6 but has psoriasis. He is concerned with the "cubner affect" due to skin trauma. He does get the psoriasis in the hair currently on his head, but no scaling on his noggin! any ideas?

  18. I am 12 days post-op and got back into the gym for first time...I lift fairly heavy weights and work out religiously 5 days a week.. taking two weeks off for my latest HT was the hardest part for me....as for contact sports...no way would I do it for at least 2 or more months...the qym is one thing but getting smacked around is another..after investing the 3 to 6 grand for the HT... give your head a rest....in the long run you will really appreciate it... aloha
  19. flying or driving distance should be of minor concern.....the dr's work should be your biggest concern. so what if you drive or fly for days... your hairline is gonna last a lifetime...
  20. This is my HT story. I have had 5 procedures done at Nuhart in PA starting back in 95. They were all mini and micro's only about 450 at a time. My results were very good in my eyes and I was comfortable with what I had accomplished considering I would be a total "chromedome-horseshoe head bald buck" if I had not. ie. a NW 6 and some. As time passed I was very comfortable with my HT and would volunteer this to girls I dated or friends etc....they were always in disbelief until I showed my lovely doll hair in the back. I had many 4 and 5 grafts to give me the density to cover my acreage! The down side was I am a surfer and when you have anything other the FU on your head they look fake wet or windblown. I found out about The Shapiro Medical Group via a friend whom wanted to get a HT done. I had never even heard of FU transplants. After seeing his work done I was sold and wanted to get a little more work done on me. My problem was donor hair. After a phone consult with Matt Z with digital pics in October and a 3 month wait to get a appoitment I arrived in MN in January to -4 temperature after a 8 hour plane ride from Hawaii. I stayed at the Country Inn and Suites, very clean new hotel with free breakfeast and lots of free shuttles to Shapiro, airport and that mega mall which I spent a lot of time in. My surgury was scheduled for the next day so I had a day to goof off, go to the mall and watch the snow fall....remember I live in Hawaii! Surgery day I arrived early to met Dr Shapiro and we spoke about my existing work and he mentioned there was lots that could be done to correct or actually make it better....nip and tucking here and there. I met Matt and DR. Rose and when they looked at my donor hair and lack thereof, thats when things got challenging. I had a huge scar from the Nuhart boys and almost no donor hair left. Rose brought in Shapiro and they both consulted about what to do. They even left the room to talk about it with me sitting there with Matt Z hoping that I did not fly all the way from HI for nothing. They came back stating the best way to appoach me was by not doing everything possible right now( I was hoping for 1000+ FU's). The best thing for me was to try to get 300 to 400 FU's clean up the scar, and remove some of the larger minigrafts that had pitted and cobblestoned (thanks Nuhart) in the front hairline and towards my crown. I still have a bald spot on my crown. And save the remaining donor hair for later. They both agreed that I get on Propecia yesterday to save the rest of my native hair, and I have since started, no side affects as of yet. Shapiro wanted to hold off on the invoicing to see what they could do first. The surgery was a breeze, the numbing neddles suck ( not nearly as bad as I remembered) but we're men so we take it. All the techs were very nice, there must have been 6 of them. I was the only surgery that day. This aint no hair mill!!! Shapiro came in many times to discuss with Dr. Rose of what they were gonna do from the drawing of the lines to before, during and after the donor extraction. They even cut out that nasty scar. What usually takes 15 or so minutes took an hour and 20 with me. I was cool though with two valiums inside me. They brought me lunch, soda's etc..whatever I asked for, even watched a movie. I was so comfortable that I fell aslseep during part of the process. Fianlly at about 4 pm I was done, I had gotten there at 8 am. They ended up getting 631 FU's, removed and recycled 37 older large minis to single FU"s and placed most in the central tuft area and along my hairline to thicken and soften it up. Just looking at the little suckers poking out was a nice change to my very staight hairline of earlier. I felt great. Shapiro came over and inspected Rose's work and both commented and how much better it looked, not to forget that nasty scar was now gone. I never new it was that bad, I wear my hair almost shoulder length usually in a ponytail which covers my bald spot. I was about to leave when I mentioned to Matt that I had not paid yet. He then spoke with Dr. Shapiro and came back with a number. Their instate rate is $5.50, out of state is $4.50, and over 12 or 1500 is $4.00 per FU. I had 631, scar extraction and 37 punch outs trimmed down and recycled. Their number was a lot less then 4.00 per unit and no charge on the other services. I was stunned. As a busniness owner I know what overhead costs are and they did not make ends meet on Jan 14. What they did was, lets do whats best for our patient and that was impressive to me. After asking about a restaurant that delivers Dr. Rose then suggested I join him for dinner. I am thinking "are you kidding" of course. The shuttle was gonna take a little time to get me so one of the tech's Pamala gave me a ride back to my hotel 5 minutes away. Dr. Rose picked me up at 6 and we went to a killer restaurant nearby and had a super meal ( I had grilled pork tenderloin) Living on Maui I know what good food is and this was very good. Dr. Shapiro was gonna join us but did not make it. We had great conversation and I felt very little discomfort from the surgery just hours earlier. I had a bandana on my head to cover the scabs which I did not mind but others probably would. Dr. Rose would not even let me pick up the check, he insisted on paying after I spent so much already with them that day... I was floored!!! The next day I went in for the shampoo and again everybody, Shapiro, Rose, Matt Z, Marge, Shelie, and lovely Cori ( dont ask her out she's hooked up, I tried!!) were all very nice. Later I saw another movie at the mega mall and caught my flight back to HI the next day. Now its 11 days post op, gonna get the donor stiches out and I feel great. My scabs were all off in 7 days and so was the hat. Nobody has noticed anything different about my hairline. I still have lots, almost all of the grafted hairs still in there with no shedding as of yet. My plan now is to wait and watch em grow in the next 3 months. April will be a great month! Now after 6 HT's my hairline can only get better. If you are thinking about a HT only go FU's no mini or micro's. Rose and Shapiro are true professionals and could have done a lot more work on me and charged a whole lot more but did not. They did what was best for me which is a little at a time. I can now go back if I like and get little touch ups to improve here and there, but I am happy right now and have no plans as of yet. I will wait a year or two and see how it all turns out. That is my longwinded story. If you have any questions just reply. aloha
