  1. I have been struggling with bipolar a lot this past year (well most of my life for that matter). I have been resistant to most anti depressants, so they are going to put me on lithium as a last resort. I am not thrilled about the possible side effects. Does anyone here take lithium?

Aside from that, my ht has held up for the last ten years no problem, so at least I don't have to stress over that.

    Comments would be welcome,

    Thanks, Atticus :D

  2. Hello and Happy New Year, all. :) I am posting on behalf of Dr. Umar. His reply to this thread is this:

For most individuals, nape hair* is more DHT resistant than the hair in the area of baldness. In other words, nape hair is not necessarily lost in all cases of MPB. What more? The safe donor area (SDA) is functionally the area bordering the fringe of hair that would be left in a terminally bald person. (NW7+). yet we know that the majority of individuals do not experience this degree of baldness. The role of nape hair has hitherto been defined by:

    1. The notion that it is generally DHT susceptible

    2. It is not typically an area subject to harvest given the limitations of the strip harvesting methods available.

The second factor has been cancelled by the advent of FUE. Since then nape and temple hair (donor areas outside the SDA) have been widely used in successful repairs of strip-donor- depleted patients. These would be patients whose capacity for further strip surgeries has been exhausted. It is the extension of these experiences with repairs that opened the prospect of using nape hair as the vanguard hair of transplanted hairlines. Obviously, patient selection is key. Using criteria such as the degree of baldness relative to age, visual evidence etc. nape hair can play an important role in hair transplantation.

    * For the purpose of this discussion, nape hair use in hairline and temple creation refers to hair in the area below the SDA including areas around the ears.

    Hi Abbie,

Dr. Sanusi Umar used nape hair in my hairline back when I was 39. I am 49 now, and it is holding strong. Still looks good. There is a picture of my in than peer review article you posted. I am the guy with the "Dracula" hairline, figure 5.

    Thanks Dr. Umar!

  3. I fully agree with Heliboy. Heliboy good to see you back on these forums!

Chrisdav: The number of dissenters many with agenda is not what matters. The facts do. You yourself are an avid poster and a Dr feller patient. I recall years ago how Dr feller disparaged Dr U years ago on this very forum for doing BHT, all in attempt to stop Dr U from being part of the coalition. I will need to look up that thread. The exchange was shameful. It is required reading for those interested in in BHT and Dr U's role in it all. Dr U has been proven right on all counts. And what is feller saying these days? :)

  4. I thought things around here were getting a bit calm and tepid so I thought I would stir things up. :D

Truly, thouh, such cases. I hope the ensuing debate/discussion changes my mind or at least benefits the communityg in assessing the current state of FUE options for middle Norwood cases relative to

I am not anti-FUE. I would go for an FUE restoration in a heartbeat if there were a doctor and clinic turning out NW IVA and IV cases that were as cosmetically appealing to me (yes, subjectivity is involved) as those of the elite FUT docs whose work I especially like.

    He he he!

  5. I personally think we've reached a point where elite FUE physicians produce results on par with strip. The issue, however, is that it takes a highly dedicated, practiced FUE physician to achieve this caliber of results. Fortunately, I believe we recommend several of these surgeons on our network.

    Very true!

  6. It was always my intention to come back on here and update my story (Good or Bad), but life dealt me a bad hand. Between my health problems and my Dad's death in 2012 I have been through hell. The past 2 years I have spent the majority of the day in bed. My health problems originally started in 2002. I was an elite athlete training for my first Triathlon when I came down with a flu-like illness and was never the same. Over the years I have gone to many different M.D.s looking for an answer to my health problems. All they gave me were drugs while I continued to get worse. When I went to have my transplants with Dr Wong I was not well, but I was still functional and did my best to deal with the pain and fatigue that I have on a daily basis. I basically feel like I have the flu every morning I wake up.

After I had my transplant with Dr Umar my health continued to go down hill. In 2011 I finally found a specialist that helped find out what was making me sick. They tested me for Chronic Epstein Barr Virus and CPN Bacteria. My antibodies were elevated indicating ACTIVE INFECTIONS. For some reason my immune system was not keeping them under control. 98% of adults have EBV and CPN but their immune systems control it.

The M.D. also tested me for Hypercoagualation(THICK BLOOD). My levels were the worst the M.D. had ever seen. The M.D. immediately called a blood specialist because she was concerned I could die from a Vein Thrombosis. They were actually shocked I hadn't died from a Vein Thrombosis(Blood Clot) already. The blood specialist also said it was a miracle I hadn't died from a blood clot. I guess people can be born with Hypercoagulation and they have to take blood thinners their whole life or people like me can develop Hypercoagulation during a serious infection. The M.D. put me on HEPARIN for over 6 months. Unfortunately Heparin can cause hair loss.

Since I had Hypercoagulation when I had my hair transplants I have lost a lot of the transplanted hair due to lack of a good blood supply to the follicles. I eventually had to get "hair tattoos" to try to camouflage the hair loss.

Dr Wong and Dr Umar are both awesome hair transplant surgeons and none of my hair loss problems are their fault. I have just been very unlucky.

When I regain my health I plan on going back back to Dr Umar to have beard and body hair transplanted. However I will make sure my Hypercoagulation is under control before I have another surgery.

I will post updated photos when I have time.

Damn!!! Hang in there buddy!!!! We are rooting for you.

  7. Hi All,

There are some natural remedies for hair loss. A nutrient-deprived diet and a lax attitude to hair can make you bald gradually, although other factors like heredity, medicine-side effects, medical conditions etc. cannot be neglected.

Food which contains proteins,vitamins,Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc etc are helpful in preventing hair loss. :

I take a multi vitamn, biotin, B12, amino acids, etc. My hair and nails are very healthy. These may not prevent hair loss, but they can certainly keep me healthy, thus keeping my hair healthy.

  8. All I can say is what the others have said. Try to take it easy and don't even think about lasering off hair right now. Your bi-polar condition is making things seem worse than they are. Just try to relax and do what the docs tell you.

I have major depressive disorder but I am on meds and stuff, so I can function pretty well. Always ask for meds that don't cause hairloss. I do. My doc is cool about it and knows I am picky about my hair. :)

Hang in there man, it will get better.

    Atticus

  9. I don't know if anyone really talks about this or if anyone else experiences it, but for me i've found I am getting a little depressed waiting for my results to grow. A full result takes up to a year and believe me it can be a very slow year waiting for results! You wake up every morning looking at your hair from different angles and under different lights and wonder if it has grown any further. One day you think it looks great, the next you think it could turn out to be a failure.

So far I am at the 4 month mark and I would say from looking at other people at this stage that I am right on track. But this does not stop me worrying. My left side is very thick at the moment and looks amazing. My right side is quite thick and i'm pleased enough. But my middle is still thin in comparison so i'm worried about that.

I think in another 2 months I can start to analyse my results further and by 8 months I think i'll be able to judge what my end result will be (i know it's meant to be 12 months but i think 8 i will be able to tell).

But those extra 4 months i now have to wait are going to seem the longest ever I reckon!

Anyway I just thought i'd write down how I felt as others may experience the same as me and may be able to relate to this.

That is normal, I went through that. But then time flies and bam, it's over before you know it.

  10. FUE can be done on you. However, at this point I would wait. My old Dracula hairline gave me the impression of a bigger forehead, but I waited until I was forty one to get work done/FUE. The gradual recession started when I was around 24 to 26. In the meanwhile I researched and researched and researched. I have results that I am happy with today.

Give it some more time, no hurry. You look good.

  11. heres the question i have for you all.....

i have a fairly large scar in the back i would like to get covered by SMP, preferrably permanent..

would this pose a problem if another strip procedure was performed down the road??? im wondering if the new scar would ruin the previous work, and to just wait for SMP until its all done ( or opt for FUE )

I would imagine you would need more SMP after getting the new scar. You probably want to opt for FUE.

  12. Hi dear friend '

Where can I get biotin ,?

what strength should I get ?

    how much should everyda?

should i take anything else ?

I'm.desperarate , I have shock on one side after

    fut .

    Thanks very much

    Dm

I take 4 1000 mcg tablets. You can buy biotin anywhere. The cheapest you buy them at the supermarket, online, etc. Target sells them cheap. I buy mine at Kaiser hospital cheap, but you have to be a member to buy them there.

    Good luck brother,

  13. Any recommendations? For Asian hair, hairline repair probably around 1000 grafts, FUE. These all seem to be top quality surgeons. I want as much density as possible as i'm in my 30's and dont (knock on wood), see any potential for any crazier hairloss. Am at a NW1.5 right now..

I would definitely recommend Dr. Umar. He does great work and is a top doc.

    Atticus

    :)

  14. BeHappy, there has to be some kind of hope for you; Granted, not Justin Bieber hair (not for any of us, really, though), but I know there has got to be some doc who can fill in those thin/bald spots and mask your scarring, at the very least. I know people keep mentioning Dr. Umar, and looking at his work HERE and HERE, it might be a good idea to get ahold of him? I mean there's no guarantee that he can duplicate these amazing results on you, per se, but I would wager a bet that he could dramatically improve your situation and disposition in life at the very least.

Now granted, I don't have any personal experience with Dr. Umar, so if I'm wrong here then someone please help out. I can empathize with BeHappy's case, and really would like to see something good happen, is all.

It wouldn't hurt for BeHappy to submit/email Dr. Umar some photos. Dr. Umar has worked on and improved the worst cases around. Your suggestion to BeHappy is a good one.

I have had Dr. Umar work on me, and he is nothing but ethical, honest and caring.

  15. The surgeon involved should have had his license revoked a dozen times, but yet he still practices hair transplantation on a daily basis... The stories I have heard from patients(victims) of his made me sick.

I agree. I mean, the surgeon involved has a docket (not good)written up on him with the Medical Board, and yet this person still practices medicine? WTF? There is a reason why good docs like Dr. Umar do not have reports written on them for the public record at the medical board. Not rocket science folks.

  16. @Atticus: Your link still doesn't work -it says "Your session has expired"

You would need to go to www.medicalboard.georgia.gov

    click on consumer resources

*Then click on look up licensed provider

    *Enter last name

    *Enter city of Alpharetta

click on PDF file to view extensive docket/complaint to medical board.

I am posting this because It makes me doubt the advice and intentions behind Hairguy's case. Hairguy states he was purposely drugged, which is rediculous. People react differently to drugs, and some may doze off. The drugs Dr. Umar adminsters are the industry standard, and are in fact less than what other doctors give. I also think Hairguy is getting flawed advice from a less than stellar doc who has been reprimanded by the Medical Board. Not rocket science in a sometimes brutal field like this.

This hairline should have been fully grown out to its fullest potential. Once it was grown out and styled, the results would have been good. I believe most logical people would wait the proper time 12-18months to let the hair settle in. Why someone would jump the gun and start extracting hair everywhere is beyond me. I question the patient and his new doc. The fact is an aggressive hairline is what he wanted, and that is what he got. Period.
