  1. Hey All - hope you all had a great holiday season and are enjoying the new year so far!

I've been lazy with posting recently but have been trying to take pictures every 15 days. It's not as much fun as it was right after the surgery. These really are the crappy days. Can't wait to get the next 3 months out of the way - here's hoping there will be some good news to report at 6 month mark.

Anyway, onto the 3 month update:

    - I feel like I'm back to my pre-op look. My family thinks there has been some new growth in the crown and the top (more density?) but after comparing my pics with my pre-op pics, I am not sure I see it. What do you guys think?

    - I tried looking for the scar but couldn't find it. I asked my family members to try and spot it and they can only see the fading pinkness around it. I've included a couple of pics. It's the shy kind but I'm not complaining icon_smile.gif

    - I buzzed with #2 4 weeks ago (during holidays) and then decided no more clippers in the recipient area until I hit the 6 month mark. Let 'em grow.

    Some random thoughts:

Ever since I noticed the hair loss years ago, I haven't liked my own look. I honestly didn't care much for what other people thought of it...what bothered me most was my inability to restore my confidence, even when I saw it dwindling away over the years.

As always, I am cautiously optimistic. But man these times are tough. So many conflicting feelings - there are days when I get giddy at the prospect of having a full head of hair again, getting them styled icon_smile.gif, looking my age (20-something) and not having to explain to shocked faces that I am much younger than I look. But there are also days when I get so frustrated at them not growing faster, and the fear creeps in - what if I'm one of the unlucky ones who doesn't get the full fledged results? I know very well that there are 9+ months to go before I can truly take stock but that thought doesn't help at all.

I'm trying to temper my expectations and excitement but is it ever so tough! My work keeps me busy but I am taking on even more, like volunteering and taking college courses so I have absolutely zero time to think about this.

Anyways, enough of that from me. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome.

  3. I had to seek this out. Nice going Eman...looking good for 3-month mark! The exciting part is about to begin...can't wait to see your next round of pics.

How many people do you think have noticed/commented on your scar or any other surgery-related details? With me, I find I notice all the details a lot more than anyone else - so far, I found only one guy who keeps staring at my hair line when talking to me...so annoying!!!

A buddy who doesn't know about the surgery asked me last month if I was growing my hair out. Naturally, I said "good eye" icon_smile.gif

  4. Biblim,

Glad you went with H&W. They really do a good job. I am 3 months since my procedure with Dr. Hasson.

I know what you mean by not being able to sleep. What I did was learned how to sleep on my sides - that was not nearly as bothersome as sleeping on the staples in the back of my head. Even after the staples came out, it took me a few days before I was comfortable with any pressure in that area.

I waited till 14th day to have my staples removed as my skin was a little tight after the procedure. Typical case is about 10th day.

Try to enjoy the next 6-12 months as much as you can icon_smile.gif

  5. Hi All,

Sorry for staying away - I've been busy with work lately and the "do" hasn't really been exciting enough to show off icon_smile.gif

In any case, here are some pics from 1 Month and 1.5 Month post-op. The scar is difficult to spot, but still has some redness left but I haven't taken any pics recently. Look for those in the 2 month update.

The transplanted hair are always expected to fall off but I still have some hair left which must mean I haven't had much (or very little) shock loss. What do you guys think?

Also, the pimples have started showing up. Is this too early? Just the right time? Too late?

Had one question for those of you who have used concealers and other options - I have an event in December during which I would like to hide the baldness on top as much as I can. Looking at my pictures, what options would you guys recommend? I've started looking into Dermmatch - any thoughts?

Please feel free to comment. Thanks all!

  7. Hey wantego,

I saw your 4 month pics before I saw your Pre-op pics. Nice difference already I must say.

My approach is the same as yours, hope for the best but stay cautiously optimistic. I am thinking that 12 month is the best time to do a solid evaluation of the results; everything before then is a journey to be enjoyed...with maybe a few bumps in the road.

If I have the kind of results you have after 4 months, I'll be excited icon_smile.gif

    Congratulations...Happy Growing!

    TheKMan!!!

  8. Yep they certainly started to grow. I gave myself a #2 buzzcut (sides and back) today - not a bad look, except if someone looks at the top which won't be often considering I'm 6'0.

I'll be starting workouts next weekend, and my life will be completely back to normal.

Thanks for the comment on the recipient area. I'm glad it looks nice and clean.

Btw, the smiley face looks pretty awesome icon_smile.gif With a buzzcut and a scar, I can make out like a bad boy LOL!!! Thinking of getting a nasty tat of a fire-breathing dragon or something to spice up the next 12 months of my life!!!

Hey Bill: thanks for your comment on the Blog. This is a long process so positive reinforcements help. I'm REALLY excited to see what the results will bear.

  9. Hi All,

I've added Day 14 pics to the photo album. Less exciting than previous updates...the transplanted hair seem to have started dropping out.

The staples are out and I'm relieved. I had a nurse at the local hospital remove the staples...he had great things to say about how nice the work on the scar was and that it wasn't even visible in some of the areas.

I'll post some pics of the scar next month. My current camera can't focus if I bring it too close to the scar and the "far" pictures don't quite show a scar (good thing for me, not so great if I want to take photos to show you all).

    TheKMan!

  10. Thanks for sharing Eman. I'm three weeks behind you so will be following your progress to see what's coming up for me. Shedding's not cool but I guess the sooner you get through it the better icon_smile.gif

As for dryness, I was feeling really dry/tight throughout the scalp until I started using J&J's Baby Oil with Vit E/Aloe Vera. The skin feels much better now - still tight but not dry.

Did the pinkness in the recipient site persist for the entire month or is it something that is recent? I am at 1 week mark and there doesn't seem to be any pinkness in the recipient area - I'm wondering if it's gone for good or if it will be back after/during the shed.

  11. Guys, thanks for the positive comments. I think the work looks good so far but having been around this forum for only a few weeks, I haven't seen nearly as many cases as some of you. So I'm glad to see you guys like it so far as well. Doesn't hurt to have a little bit of positive reinforcement from the vets icon_smile.gif

Those grafted hair will fall off, won't they? icon_frown.gif I wish they wouldn't.

Bill: Yep, I intend to document the entire progress here. I've gained a lot from this community; the least I can do is give a tiny bit back.

Joe: I had you mistaken for Jotronic initially...sorry! Thanks for the comments. Dr. Hasson certainly know his stuff.

FallenStar: Yep, I'm hoping the results will turn out solid enough that I won't have to make another visit. Real kudos to those who have gone back twice, thrice and sometimes even more often. It's because of their experiences, and willingness to share them, that the newbs like me can get the desired results in as few attempts as possible.

PGP: Thanks. Here's hoping the future postops are just as good icon_smile.gif
