  1. Both - and he did FUT So about the shock loss - when do you think it gets the worst?
  2. My Doc was Epstein (2nd procedure with him). He did a great job. He put in about 800 grafts to recreate and give more density to the hairline.
  3. Hey all, I'm 3 weeks post-op and the shock loss is definitely kicking in. I was just curious when you might think the "peak" of shock loss occurs? My last procedure I think is was at around 5 weeks but I can't be certain. Al I know is everyday it looks worse. Any insights/experiences would be appreciated. Thanx!

  5. Never had a bald president? Does Eisenhower ring a bell? Anyway, Hairbank (and the discussion of Presdents) brings up an intersting point. I don't know how many people here are politicians, but it is generally well known, that people who listened to the Nixon/Kennedy debate on the radio decidely chose Nixon. But we all know he didn't stand a chance when standing next to the youthful, healthy, full-haired Kennedy. Most of our insecurites come from mainstream media and what not, I beleive. Being bald a 100 years ago was probablly not an issue whatsoever, hell the average life expectancy was 47. But these days, with the magazines, clubs, single life etc. etc. outward appearance is incredibly important in how one is percieved i.e., how one personally feels. I live in Miami. As a single guy, try heading down to a South Beach "hot spot" with a comb-over and see how you fare. But, for those of us who could care less where the cool party is, balding is probablly nothing more than a fleeting thought that doesn't occupy much of ones time. Much much more to be said, but that's it for now. Great post Mike 1987! P.S. Yes, our President is a blithering idiot
  6. I posted this previously but got no reply's. I have heard from a few different sources that propecia can lose effectivenss after 5 years. Is there anyone here who can personally dispell this rumor?
  7. I was just wondering if I alternate nizoral and nioxin every other day, would that be too much? ~ 4 times a week for each shampoo?
  8. I agree with Slick, it's probably in your head. (No pun intended). I think if someone had been slipping propecia in your drink or something without your knowledge, you'd probably be fine.
  9. Hey all, I was just wondering how long you have to wait after putting rogaine on before you can take a shower and not risk washing it off? Also, does anyone here only use rogain 5% ONCE a day? Does that work?! Thanx everyone, the more responses the merrier.
  10. I have heard from reports and physicians that propecia begins to lose effectiveness after 5 yrs. At which point, I will most likely go on avodart. My questions are: 1) Has anyone been taking propecia for more than 5 yrs here - if so, what are the results, does it really stop working as well? 2) Will switching to avodart make any difference if propecia starts not to work? Lastly, what's the deal with any new drugs coming out? Has anyone heard anything about FDA approval for something? Much thanx everybody
  11. Browny - I feel ya. I am turning 25 soon and just had my second procedure. I haven't lost quite as much but I still think we're in the same boat. Luckily, with propecia (on it for 3 years) and my two procedures, I have virtually stopped it. I think a HT would be a great think for you. However as some of the other posts stated, it is tough to tell because your hair is so short and we can not really take a good look at your donor area. If you grow your hair out, is the hair on the sides and back thick? If so, I think you should do it, and the recommendations of about 3000 sound very accurate. It sounds to me that where you want to get...1500 will definitiely not be enough. Don't feel bad if you find yourself getting a little hostile every now and then, most of us have been there, it's frustrating. In the meantime, get on propecia. Then you might want to grow your hair out just a little bit so you can see what kind of donor area you have. Anyway, that's my two cents. Keep your head up. FYI - I just had another 900 grafts from Dr. Epstein about 5 hours ago. Procedure went great, I will posts pics soon. Take care
  12. Well I see the cynic's are still alive and well on this site No, this is not my first post, as I said I had been here years ago. It is very important to note that I am not receiving any compensation whatsoever for this post, and I do not work for Dr. Epstein. It is simply my experience and I put it here to help people find someone they'd be happy with. That's all. Take care.
  13. Hello all, I had been a member of this forum a few years ago and I owe a lot to this website, because it led me to Dr. Jeff Epstein of Miami. I had started losing my hair at about 21, the loss was minimal, but at 21, the word minimal doesn't assuage the embarrassment and anger you feel. I initially had gone to Bosley (because I saw there infomercials and believed them to be the only ones who existed) to get ~400 grafts. After charging me and arm and a leg for a sub-par procedure I was very discouraged. I thought this was the best there was to offer. Boy was I wrong. I found this site (thank goodness) and read through it religiously. I was amazed at everyone out there with such devotion to posting their experiences so others may benefit. After spending hours upon hours on this site looking at picture after picture and reading blog after blog, I had it narrowed down. I noticed without exception, three, maybe four surgeons were repeatedly mentioned, and with the added benefit of Dr. Epstein practicing in my city, I decided to research him further and make a consultation. Best decision I have ever made. Immediately I was put at ease by the atmosphere and his staff. In the consultation room he had a photo album, not a brochure, but a photo album taken with a regular camera. I was astounded at the before and after pictures I witnessed, could he possibly be this good? No one can do work like this I thought. Well, after realizing he was a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, a member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons (IAHRS) of which fewer than 40 physicians world wide are a member of and past president of the Florida Society of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, I felt needles to say, more at ease. Then when I realized he had been featured in Vogue magazine, a book called the Beauty Makers (which lists the top cosmetic surgeons in the country) and other numerous accolades to extensive to list, I knew I had found the right Doc. Wow were my expectations confirmed throughout the entire process and most importantly at 3 months! I will post pictures here as soon as I realize how to do so. In the meantime, I am going back to Dr. Epstein this week for a second procedure and do not have any reservations whatsoever, I have no doubt in my mind the procedure will be nothing short of superior. Again, I understand pictures are worth a thousand words, and I will post them as soon as I can. In the meantime, I felt an obligation to pass on my experience as so many others have done for me. Dr. Epstein has a courteous staff, relaxing atmosphere, very reasonable prices, and a commitment to both excellence and his patients unlike any I have seen. He has nothing but kind and respectful things to say about his colleagues, which is to say that I am sure there are other great doctors out there, however I am just sharing my experiences with reports and testimonies from so many others. If anyone out there is new to this, or someone is going for their third procedure, I strongly advise you to give Dr. Epstein more than just serious thought. For those of you who do not wish to travel to Miami, he just added a second office in NY City! I will post pictures soon. In the meantime, please research this forum and Dr. Epstein's website, I believe you will find nothing but positive things said. After that, give him a call. Trust me people, it will be the wisest decision you make in this process. I hope this helps. Should anyone have any questions, I will check back periodically to answer them. Take care, and good luck.
