  1. I don't think laser would be as precise as you'd need (though you could contact a local laser hair removal practice and ask). I've had laser in a couple different places and the smallest emitter i've seen is about .75 cm2. It would affect any hair it zaps, whether transplanted or native. It takes many treatments (8 on average says my nurse, at 6 week intervals) but it may be possible to do just a few treatments and soften the appearance of the plugs.

  2. Thanks for all your comments. I've been on Propecia for about 10 years now, ever since I started thinning at 19. While the hair loss didn't stop completely, it's slowed to a glacial pace. My two younger brothers are losing their hair at a significantly more rapid pace than I (even today), and they've never taken Propecia. Dr. Cooley said I had really good donor hair, so do any of you think that going with 200 grafts extra (he recommended 1800) would make a big difference either way? I definately want to use my donor hair wisely...my dad is a NW6 or 7 and I really don't want to go down that road.

  3. You've right. I looked through two huge binders of photos and Ailene even found a previous patient with a very similar hair texture to mine. She referred to him by name to Dr. Cooley, and the doc immediately knew who she was talking about. Nice.

I wonder...if I went with 2000 grafts, would I get a denser result in the area he mapped out...or would it alter the hairline somewhat? That's probably a question for Ailene.

  4. My consultation with Ailene and Dr. Cooley lasted for about an hour and a half. Ailene answered all of my questions, including some I didn't know I had! Dr. Cooley then came in and checked me out. He said I had a "phenomonal" donor area at about 100 follicluar units per cm2. He recommended 1800 grafts, and Ailene explained that I could be conservative and go with 1500, or max it out at 2000. Suggestions?

  6. Wow...what did I start here? haha. I guess this is a topic that's constantly under much debate. The reason for the query: I'm probably a very unusual case as far as my interest in a HT. I have a mild case of OCD/Tourette's...sort of an impulse to move my head in different ways, often down. After doing a ton of research, I became concerned that this could "stretch" my strip scar of otherwise impede the healing process. How much is required to stretch the scar...I know no heavy lifting or working out for a while. I'll probably need another HT down the road a bit as recession continues, so it's looking that strip is the best way to go as far as utilization of my donor area.

  7. I'm hoping to have my first HT procedure with Dr. Cooley in Charlotte, NC at the end of the year. I was wondering about the donor scar area and what kind of range of motion impediments are there post op (and how long it lasts). Looking down, up, side to side, etc? I'm concerned about stretching the scar/stitches with everyday movement. Also wondering what kind of tightness is typically present and how long it can last. Can anybody share their experience?
