I too wanted to try saw palmetto, but read that it "might" cause similar side effects as propecia.... decreased libido. Since I'm already on propecia, I don't want to double my chances of the side effects occuring, so I'm not taking it. That is extremely high tho for any herbal supplement.

Just curious as to why you are taking .5mg instead of the normal 1mg a day. Did you start at .5 or 1?

I believe the side effects can kick in as early as month 2, so keep your eyes open for it. That's if they appear at all. I'm hoping I turn out just fine. Good luck!

And how was your plumbing working during those 5 years? Any problems? I'm only 1 month on propecia, so I have a while to go still, but everything seems to be working just fine. No negative side effects yet. In fact, like a few others on this site, I have noticed an INCREASED libido, can't complain much about that. I have noticed some decrease in body hair, so at least I know the drug is doing something hehe.

Think I saw him. He was in a bumper going to a comercial break. Wasn't a close up, but his hair did look a little odd from what I could tell.

The 1/4 med people talk about here is called Proscar. It contains the same drug that is in Propecia, which is finasteride. However, Proscar is 5mg and Propecia is 1mg. Proscar is used to battle BPH (enlargement of the prostate gland).

It is cheaper in the long run to get Proscar and cut each pill into 4th's, giving you a 1.25mg dose each day. It might be a little difficult convincing your doctor to give you a prescription for Proscar to fight hair loss however. I just started Propecia this month, but might mention making the switch next time I see my doctor.

And perhaps the fact that they are so famous and well known, it would be kind of obvious that they had something done. Also, the examples you gave are no longer balding, they ARE bald. Propecia wouldn't do much for them.
