1. Tom Arnold was on Howard Stern this morning. They mentioned his HT. Here's a summary of what was said (taken from www.marksfriggin.com)

"Howard noticed that Tom's hair plugs were looking pretty good. Tom told him that's because they're individual hair plugs instead of the big 30 hair plugs that most people get. Howard sounded kind of impressed by that. Tom said that he doesn't worry about the hair and he's had the plugs for about 10 years now. Artie has a big bald spot so Tom told him he should get it done. They do a scalp reduction which would be like getting a face lift at the same time. Artie wondered if there was any fault of his that they hadn't covered today."

I don't agree with the scalp reduction, but at least Howard got to see a "good" HT, even if it was from Bosley. He always rips on people who get bad ones.

  2. KenEastCoast,

Explain to your doctor how it's the same drug. Have him look it up in his book if he doesn't believe you. Also, make sure to explain the economic differences between the two. That alone should convince him to give you a prescription for Proscar. If not, time to see another doctor.

  3. Went to my doctor today to renew my prescription for Proscar. My doc was asking me if it's working, what kind of results I see, etc. He then told me that he started to take propecia because he's got a bald spot forming and said he mentioned me to his dermotologist regarding taking the drug. I told him if he's got any questions feel free to ask, lol.

I just thought it was kinda funny that I'm informing my doctor about this stuff. When he asked where I learned about it, I told him I did tons of research online and mentioned this site. icon_smile.gif

  5.
quote:
The body actually compensates for the reduction of DHT by increasing testosterone production.

? I thought there was more testosterone because less of it was being converted into DHT.

  6. Convincing the doc was no problem at all. icon_smile.gif Gave him the info, told him how I would be cutting it up, he looked up Proscar in his medical book to be sure, and that was that.

However, he gave me a 1 month supply (30 pills). This will last me 4 months, or 120 days. I thought Proscar came in a larger amount, like 100 pills. Am I mistaken? I think I overheard the pharmicist talking to another customer and said "I can only give you a 30 day supply). Perhaps there's a law here in NY to control that sort of thing.

Anywho, I paid around $90 for the 30 pills. How does that price compare with what you guys pay?

  7. Hi guys. I need to see my doc in a few weeks to continue my prescription for Propecia. I wanted to use that time to ask him about getting on Proscar. Anyone have any advice for me so that I can convince him to switch me over?

Here's what I know so far....

    - It's the same drug, just larger dosage per pill

    - Cut each pill into 4th's, giving you 1.25mg

    - Will cost half as much as Propecia over a years time

Anything else I left out? Thanks for any input. icon_smile.gif

  9. Propecia doesn't lower testosterone. It lowers the amount of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is what contributes to hair loss. If anything, you'll have more testosterone.

80 - 85% of men using propecia see positive results. That means they see their hair loss stops. Some men see "some" regrowth. Hair that might regrow is hair that was udergoing the miniturization process.

However, some men experience a slowing of hairloss. The idea is to keep the hair you have. Propecia takes a long time to work. After a few months, it might seem like it's only slowing the hairloss. But stick with it and there's a very good chance it'll stop your hairloss.

  10. I believe the official tests showed that about 80-85% of men using propecia showed positive results.

I think it's ok to start using minox now along with propecia. But remember, minox also takes a long time before you see any results (at least 3 months).

There really is no way to tell if these drugs will work or not without actually using them for extended periods of time. Stick with it and give it a chance to do its thing. The odds are on your side that it'll work.

  11. I work with a girl who got a nose-job last December. She took just 1 week off from work to recover. Infact, the two of us had work related classes to further our careers scheduled then, and she had to go to the first class with her bandages on. People asked what happened, and she just replied "I had surgery done."

Yes, it's not a hair transplant, but it's a very obvious procedure just like a HT. Sometimes it's best not to try to hide something but to just be very open about it.

  12. I'm on my 3rd month of propecia. I "think" I'm seeing some re-growth in the front hairline. I can see little wispy hairs that I never noticed before. Of course, I never really studied my hairline so closely before either, so who knows what it is. lol
