Hello. Do you prefer Minoxidil 5 % in spray or in foam ? And why ?

I started once a week, then twice, three times, five times, and now I’m basically daily. But it depends on the topical. Xyon is the only one that recommends daily use. Most likely because of the siloxysystem gel that penetrates slowly.
If the topical you’re using recommends 1x per week, use it as directed.
Hello. What concentration of topical dutasteride do you use ?

no he means before you try to conceive, stop finasteride. it has a short half life in your body so do some research and decide what the best time period of stopping is for you. once your partner is pregnant you can then think about starting it again, youll just have to be very careful to make sure they don't come into contact with the drug (physically with the pill or via your body someway)
thats just my opinion, the research on this is limited so just find out what you can and then decide
Yes l have to figure out what is best.. Some questions remain 😐

Minoxidil. And (I'm not a doctor) I would see a dermatologist and opt for oral minoxidil starting at a low dose. I would cease the finasteride if you are planning on having a baby a good three months before hand. To date their is actually no known teratogen as a result of being on finasteride. But could you imagine how you would feel if your baby was born with a deformity or disability regardless? All the best.
When you wrote a good three months before hand you mean stopping finasteride for the first three months of pregnancy ?

Questions. 1- A man who wants to conceive doesn't have to stop finasteride right ? 2- And if he does it'll will only be for the first three months of pregnancy ? 3- If a man stops finasteride for all the pregnancy, what drug/alternative can he still use in order not to lose ground ?
-
Question for Melvin, What alternative would be good enough for the duration of the pregnancy ? When l say alternative l mean taking something during the time off finasteride.

I think yes, La Serenoa Repens (saw palmetto) is basically a specific natural food supplement against male androgenic alopecia formulated with the best concentration of plant extracts that contrast the DHT, regarding the
Minoxidi, is a blood vasodilator and you could opt for the foam one to be applied to the scalp instead of the one to be taken orally. But Saw palmetto in its own way is also a dht blocker, that means it wouldn't be good and safe to use it when a pregnant woman is around. 😐

minoxidil e finasteride hanno funzioni diverse, il primo non può essere preso in sostituzione dell'altro, At most, one could advise @Yabala to replace finasteride with Saw Palmetto, which has a much milder efficacy than finasteride.
You mean l could use minoxidil and Saw palmetto during the duration of the pregnancy ? And resume topical finasteride when the baby is born ?

You could use oral minoxidil if you're talking around a year off finasteride.

Hi! I'm a user of topical finasteride. My wife and myself are planning to have a baby and l know that l'll have to stop topical finasteride for all the duration of the pregnancy. I wanted to ask if l will lose ground during that time ? And l also wanted to know if there are alternatives l can take during the pregnancy ? Given that l'll resume topical finasteride once the baby is born. Thanks in advance.

Thanks

Hi. I have a question for Melvin. You wrote in a comment that you use topical dutasteride once a day 5-6 times a week right?! Why do you use it 5-6 times a week and not everyday of the week ?

It will absorb, but a lot less. There’s a guy here who checked his DHT. It was reduced by 40%. Another guy had his DHT change by 10%. Either way, it’s way less than the oral version. Oral dutasteride eliminates 90-95% of systemic DHT.
I see. How about the percentage of scalp dht reduction of topical dutasteride ?

I didn't say that, I said it wasn't approved but can be used off label.
I would personally start with finasteride which is approved and has been used for hair loss for longer so is better studied and understood.
All drugs have a risk profile, it's a personal decision as to whether to take that risk based on the benefit it'll bring.
Thanks for the answer

yes. dut, fin, etc, they all are absorbed into the blood vessels in the scalp
Thanks for the answer

I don't agree. It's not a stronger version of finasteride, it's a different drug.
It's also not FDA approved for hairloss (because it's a different drug).
So dutasteride must not be used for hairloss ?

All these comments including the original post have been incorrect thus far
Dutasteride is simply a much stronger version of Finasteride
If you have zero sides on meds, there is no reason to not be on Dutasteride.
The thinking of "i am only a low norwood therefore I dont warrant dutasteride" is an illogical way of thinking
There is no mystery or secret weapon behind Dut. It is just a stronger version of Fin...
Yes but yet finasteride has more studies and we know it's safe long term.

its a myth. it will still go systemic. the whole too heavy dalton theory is just a rumor.
So topical dutasteride does penetrate the skin ?

The way I see them being used, finasteride is used initially and dutasteride to complement or replace when finasteride becomes less effective on it's own. The more sensitive you are to DHT, the more likely dutasteride would need to be used.
Thanks man

Hello, ls it true that topical dutasteride can't penetrate the skin compared to topical finasteride ?
-
Hello. ls it true that the use of finasteride is for mild to moderate hairloss and dutasteride is for advanced Norwoods (Norwood 4,5,6 and 7) ?

If you take oral Finasteride: you do not need to stop at all. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that your wife/girlfriend should not get into contact with the medication (crushed tablets).
If you take topical/liquid Finasteride: you should probably stop when trying to conceive, and discontinue the use until the baby is born (if it is boy). I would talk to a doctor about it (if you take topical finasteride), since I haven't found articles saying when you should stop.
Thanks again man

If you are taking oral finasteride (pills), there is no need to stop. Your partner just needs to avoid getting her hands on crushed pills, that's all. You can continue with intimacy, the amount of finasteride in your semen is completely negligible.
You can read more here (this is just one of many scientific articles on this topic): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2018472/pdf/11785276.pdf
If you take topical finasteride/Dutasteride you should stop, because it could theoretically transfer to her skin and then to the baby (boy) through her bloodstream.
I should stop before conception ? or should l stop when the pregnancy is confirmed and during all the duration of the pregnancy ?
