I think because they take up hair from all over donor compared to a strip being taken and all the hair above and below that strip being completely unused

Yes but so what? If you want to add more grafts from FUE then as long as they have been taken carefully, more grafts can be taken from all over in the same way. The unused ones aren't damaged or anything which seemed to be implied in the post I replied to.

Also, FUT is something that needs to be considered for people who will need a lot of grafts.

To maximise your donor, you are still best to start with FUT, and then move to FUE for the subsequent procedures. If you do a large FUE early on, and require a lot more grafts down the road, it can sometimes be difficult to cover enough area.

People telling you not to do it are going against the advice of top-tier surgeons who can do both, i.e. Konior, Cooley, Hasson and Wong, etc. Docs make a lot more $ by going FUE, so FUT wouldn't still be widely practiced if there wasn't a reason/place for it.

I mean, many other top tier surgeons mostly don't do FUT also..

If you are taking FUE individual units, why would there be less grafts available later? The other units are untouched and still there?

Do you agree with what the other guy said also about my hair, to do a top up?

No, I saw one of the “top-ups” recently and it was still a poor result but now the guy has had 2 years wasted by this doctor along with all the stress. If they could do it right they would have done it the first time - don’t go back to a surgeon that failed. Find a genuinely good clinic and you’ll actually get the good result you deserve.

It seems if the doctor is on the list of recommended surgeons,  they're immune to criticism which is biased and not good precedent for the forum. The defense of the results is comical at best and pathetic.

I don’t think it’s the case generally, but for this doctor I 100% agree.

is 2.5mg too low to be effective for hairloss?

Sadly I can't handle 5mg because my blood pressure was already too low before even starting (90/60). When I go past 2.5mg my BP goes to 80/50 which is way too low.

That said, as someone with pre-existing low bp, at 2.5mg my BP and resting heart rate is exactly the same as pre-treatment, it is when I go above that I start noticing changes.

2.5mg can be very effective! Good luck :0)

Just want to make this clear for anyone interested in OM. Unlike topical it is dosage dependent, the more you take the more minoxidil metabolite you get, because your liver has enough of the enyzme, 2ndly you will get bloating/water retention on any dosage/low/high if you have a bad diet and you eat high salt foods consistently, and drink little to no water, ALONGSIDE being overweight.

Oral Min is for people who can keep track of their salt/water intake, aswell as maintain a healthy life style, take it from someone who is on 10mg of oral minoxidil, with 0 bloat, 0 water retention, the only time I have ever encountered retention on the drug is when I pigged out and had 2 pizzas and a full night of drinking with friends, which is out of the norm for my strict gymsqe life style

You are giving advice out, but then state that you're taking double what doctors prescribe of the drug for hair loss (5mg)? This could be a factor why you have had so much body hair growth.

  7. Looks disappointing so far unfortunately, with Dr Arshad you seem to have to be very lucky to get a good result instead of with other recommended clinics here unlucky not to get a good result.

I only mean in terms of the hair thickness achieved here.

Wish you all the best though there’s still time for improvement, and don’t feel down you’ll get some improvement and they’ll always be options for other clinics in the future.

My main point was specifically in regards to does oral help work through shock loss just as topical would

Shock loss isn’t really that common. Not heard of minoxidil  being used to prevent shock loss. + I’m not sure there’s really much to be done if it does happen, the hair will recover around 3 months later anyway from what I’ve seen.

First of all, Hair of Istanbul sucks

Secondly, never go to a clinic that used scalp hair on beard transplant procedure. it will look fake, thick and drawn on

Ive seen beautiful beard results where the hairs are taken from under the chin and implanted carefully on cheeks, with the correct angle and direction ofcourse..

What were the clinics where you have seen these results?

@New_Barnet_Please Do take consultation with a good doctor and move forward with the regime he suggests. Also in none of my replies i mentioned about side effects. I made a point regarding echo and ECG because the drug is mainly used for hypertension which in turns affects your heart health. That's all. In no way i am trying to say that oral Minoxidil will cause harm in everyone. It's a choice of the pateint at the end of the day.

@Adier please cite your evidence that oral minoxidil in low dose for hair loss “affects your heart health”?

  11. 32 minutes ago, Adier said:

@New_Barnet_PleaseI gave a suggestion. There is nothing wrong with doing echo and ECG just to be safe. 5mg Oral minoxidil is a drug for Hypertension. Moreover oral Minoxidil is yet to be FDA approved. Now in no way i am saying don't use it. All i am trying to say is use it with caution. That's all. If it is working for you nobody is stopping you from taking it. Good luck.

Maybe there is something wrong with the suggestion though, because you might be adding worry, take up people’s time and money doing these things which could be completely unnecessary. Based on what. This is why I think it’s best to take suggestions from doctors specialising in the area, who actually have a real understanding of the risk profile for each individual patient. Not people who could be passing on forum rumours from somewhere else on the internet.

They didn’t need to get FDA approval for the oral version, because they already got it for the topical version. Same reason why topical finasteride won’t get FDA approved. That doesn’t mean it’s not safe.

Ah right, that would make sense.

  13. Now you’re making it sound unsafe but Proscar which is the same drug in higher dose is FDA approved so has a safety profile. You mean it’s not FDA approved for hair loss. And no + that’s   not likely to happen as it already has  FDA approval for the other purpose and the process costs a huge amount of money, they are making a huge amount already from the topical (or maybe they don’t even have a patent right for the oral version for that purpose I don’t know) so there’s little incentive for it to ever happen.

Oral Minoxidil is not a replacement to Oral Finasteride or dutasteride. The drug is for hypertension. Yes it does work in hair regrowth but that's should not force you to use it. Use the topical Minoxidil first for 6months and then if you don't see any positive response. Consult a Cardiologist get you echo and ECG done and if everything comes fine go for oral Minoxidil. At the same time get your echo and ECG done every month to check your heart and your overall health. That would be my suggestion for anyone considering oral Minoxidil.

That’s your opinion, I take oral minoxidil without finasteride and it seems to work well for me, so far at least.

Yeah it’s a drug for hypertension .. when used in a much higher dose. Finasteride is a drug for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate)… when used in a much higher dose.

Now my doctor didn’t say I needed to do anything like what you’re saying here. So on what basis are you giving this medical sounding advice to people? Low dose minoxidil is a relatively benign drug taken by millions of people in topical form and oral form isn’t much difference when it’s low dose as well. Honestly after how this thread has gone and other conversations around hair loss drugs I’ve seen on forums the best advice is don’t take any advice on a forum, including from me - speak to doctors who are knowledgeable in the area that can properly understand your medical situation and advise you.

I drink 10mg topical kirkland minoxidil, have for a year. Now noticeable negative side effects

… why? Would you go totally against the medical instructions of how the drug is supposed to be used. Seems unnecessary as it’s possible to just get proper dosed and made for bodily consumption oral minoxidil prescribed by a doctor.. totally risky and.. crazy to do this imo!

  16. 56 minutes ago, sukh123 said:

Yeh, I don't why your trying to go full defence mode on oral minoxidil, as I said for most it will be fine, but his side effects are the exact ones associated with oral minoxidil. Water retention and heart burning are the main stated potential effects of the drugs, you don't have to be a doctor to realize its the drug causing this since they started while he's only been on it for two weeks, and tbh minoxidil a growth stimulant, I would not use it unless your using fin or dut  as its pointless to regrow new hair if your losing hair at the same time

Sure although most studies on side effects are based around the drug’s initial use for blood pressure where people take 10-40mg per day which is a huge amount more than the 2.5-5mg people take for hair loss, I often  see people are (in my opinion) overly concerned basing it around the potential side effect risks of as if they would be taking so much.

fear mongering is one thing, sharing my experience is another. I can share the pictures and describe the symptoms. I didn’t went to the ER, but this is my decision. Would it be better to not share my experience at all, do I need to see a doctor and get a certificate before posting?

Post your experience of course, I’m only suggesting things aren’t always as clear cut as they seem. But aside from that yes I do think your statement “overthinking it, I don’t think doctors should describe oral minoxidil in any form!” is exactly what I’d call fear mongering actually!

Your in denial , the drug may not cause it initially , but once it builds up it can. The drug is for blood presssure and the side effects op suffered are exactly the side effects associated with oral form . The thing is it’s nothing to be alarmed about , alot of people won’t get these effects and op’s biological anatomy means he unfortunately did. That how all drugs work even ones like aspirin, there a reason they have side effects profiles on All leaflets

I’m not in denial at all, it’s just not a good idea to jump to conclusions, especially in this case without medical input.

Anyway, it works great for me. The only advice if you are interested in it is to read the studies (https://m.youtube.com/c/MrRolandas) has good links to them if you search or ask the doctor for them, start on a low dose and consult with a doctor while monitoring. If you aren’t interested that’s fine - the only reason I’m bothering to say this is as there’s definitely excessive fear mongering on forums around the subject and often people know hardly anything about it.
