  1. Hello everyone

I had a hair transplant 2 years ago. The results are fine however I decided to get my head shaved today just to see what it looks like. It was a razor shave btw not just clippers.

My cousin who also got a hair transplant told me that this was a huge mistake and transplanted hairs aren’t supposed to get shaven off like that. He said that I might even have lost a lot of the hairs permanently because of that.

    Is this true ??

If the appearance of these grafts are not worrying you then I would continue to ignore them if that is the case?

Well I never looked so closely and noticed them before at my front hairline, so I was worried at first. If its a normal thing and the hairs aren’t damaged than its alright. I assume they are only noticeable when the hair is very short. When my hair was long I never noticed them.

If you are talking about transplanted hair having two or three hairs growing from one implanted graft then yes this happens. However it should happen because in the frontal hairline single should always be used and further back doubles (or triples, etc) are placed to give more density. Are you saying that you have double or triple hair grafts placed in the hairline?

Yeah I noticed them at the hairline but I’m sure I will have some at the mid scalp too.

  4. Do you guys think its normal to lose between 30-40 hairs a day ? I shower every day and usually lose between 10-15. In the past two days I lost between 30-40. There is also always that very small yellow/white bulb on them. Does that mean the follicle fell out as well ?!

the same thing happened to me 2-3 weeks ago, I lost between 30-40 hairs 5 days in a row. That was the result of using a very harsh shampoo, it became normal again after stopping it. But now I have it again for some reason. So far I have not noticed any difference in hair density, I hope nothing bad will happen.

Shorter hair exposes the gaps between hair a bit more and as a result you won't have the same effect.

Yeah that’s exactly how it feels. I also noticed that the transplanted hair when longer looks way more dense when I brush it back or to the sides but bad when I style it forward, fringe hair style.

I got a buzzcut now so it will take like 3-5 months to get the ideal length back damn 😬

Month 4 is when my first hairs started growing, it started looking good at month 5. I wish you good luck with your HT results!

Skin tone and hair contrast ratio as well as how you actually healed play the biggest part.

Also, you could use SMP to try mask the donor scars which is something a lot of people choose to do.

The donor healed quite well, looks better now than it did during the first few months, I’m at month 9 now. I have pale skin and dark black hair Idk if this makes it better or worse.

Im quite young and a student, I have to save to afford regular SMPs. Once I can I will go for it for sure

I had 2700 fue grafts extracted and I shave mine to a skin fade.... not noticeable unless your a ht nerd or zoom right in.

Looks great! They only took 2700 grafts from you which helps, I got 4000 grafts taken 😬

I would love a similar haircut like that but with a higher fade. If it looks crap and the lack of hair gets visible I will have to wear a cap or hoodie till it grows back I guess

The scars are microscopic and invisible to the eyes. However, the absence of hair in the extracted area of the donor is visible when the donor area is shaved or trimmed to a 0 or something similar to that. It is advisable to keep the hair a little longer on the donor area.

Yeah that’s what I meant actually, I fear that the lack of hair might get visible. If only SMPs would be a bit cheaper here, it sucks I can no longer get my favorite haircut without having to worry about this

  9. The undercut is the only haircut that really suits me but I’m worried that the scars might be visible to others once I do it. I think about shaving the sides of the hair to 0 and keeping it like 1-2cm on top. My hair always gets split ends once it grows long so I want to keep it short.

Has anyone here experience with this? I couldn’t find any pics or forum posts about this unfortunately. Is it a bad idea to shave the sides/donor without getting an SMP first ?

I've had 3 HTs, and I've never had any growth until 4 months. It's always taken 5-6 months to see any visibly growth for me. The growth is very relative. Some people see it at 4 months, some at 6 and some even later. In fact, I'd say you're lucky to see so much growth so early on!

Relax, wait for a year and see how it goes. It doesn't seem like your results will be bad at all. It's just the beginning, you have 8 more months for it to improve!

By the way, I'm just curious why you had to do 4,000 grafts for your grade of baldness. You seem like a NW 2/3.

Yeah I guess you are right. It was just frustrating seeing guys online posting great results at 4 months only, it made me fear that mine was a failure since I hardly had any growth by that time. I try to chill and wait it out but it’s not easy for me ngl. I’m already annoyed by the fact I can no longer cut my hair short on the sides without the scars being visible, now imagine if all those grafts won’t grow and were taken away for nothing. I still have this fear.

I was surprised too that 4000 grafts were used as I expected less. 2500 were used for the hairline+temples and the other 1500 for the mid scalp.

I think your hair looks better when you brush it side to side verses straight back…also, IMHO it would help visually to have a very small amount of single hair grafts added to stagger your hairline so it’s not as symmetrical…just my opinion.

Thanks! I hope to be able to try out different hairstyles in the future in case the density improves. Cause if I brush or style them back the lack of density at the front gets visible unfortunately. Not sure if I can except much change but it would be great.

Do not have SMP or anything else until you reach the 12 month mark. It's starting to kick in now as you have stated at 5 months and you have another 7 months to go. No offense but I have no idea where you did your research and who told you that at 4 months your transplant is a failure if you do not achieve full results? In my opinion you are now one month ahead of schedule and that in itself is a good sign. Did your surgeon mention finasteride to slow and stabalize you hair loss?? The best thing you can do now is to spend as much time on this forum and ask as many questions as you need to so that you can educate yourself about everything MPB and hair transplant results. It will keep your mind off your own hair and your interest in understanding the procedure from many who have gone before you. Please take this in the vein that it is intended. Take care and wishing you all the best!

    Thanks!

I was worried at month 4 because many of the results I’ve seen on YouTube and elsewhere showed many guys with good growth that early already. The clinic told me to wait 12 months to see the final result but I was still scared by how bad it looked. Just hope it gets better from now on.

regarding SMP, I don’t think I have to wait 12 months to get it done in the donor area since the hairs that got taken from there won’t grow back anyway. It’s just frustrating because I can no longer get a proper undercut without the scars being visible 😬I think I will let them grow out on the sides and back till I find a place to do an SMP.

I made the decision to not take Finasteride as the side effects that many get from them are things I’ve already experienced and I don’t want that to happen again. I’m aware of the risks about not taking it, that I might have to do another transplant in some years but I’m ok with that.

  13. Hey guys I wanted to give an update. It’s day 138 now almost 5 months and this is what the hair looks like when I brush it back the same way I did in the other pics

It looks better now than it did last time I posted that’s for sure but I still hope for more growth/density considering the amount of grafts that were used.

I also regret getting an undercut because of the scars at the back/donor area. I think I have to get an SMP done for that.

Don't panic. Even though this hair transplant won't be a success you aren't in a bad spot. Your hair loss is not that advanced and probably you still have enough grafts to work with. Don't take any rushed decisions, if you'll pick your next surgeon carefully he'll probably make the things right.

I hope so. I have to wait like 8 months though to be able to get another HT. I try not to stress myself but the fact that I might have lost so much hair from the donor for nothing saddens me. I can’t even cut my hair short on the sides or get a fade like I used to because it gets noticeable that I got a HT 😔

If the first pic is indeed 2 months pre-op then 4000 grafts is a drastically high number for your first surgery.  You probably had shock loss since you had a lot of native hair to begin with.  Regardless, be patient and reevaluate things at the 9 month mark.

Yeah I was surprised too that they did 4000 but I was told they wanted to achieve a strong density results at the hairline...nothing of that to be seen yet.

Do you have any pre-op and immediate post-op pics for context?  How many grafts did you receive? Where did you go?

Like the others have already stated, 4 months is waaaayy too early to have any kind of opinion on your results.

First pic like 2 months before the HT, second one immediately after and last one 2 days after. 4000 grafts but I don’t want to mention the clinic.
