  1. Interesting! Is this something your surgeon's office told you about?
  2. I'm on my 8th day of FUT post-op. I've been religiously spraying ATP throughout the day and shampooing with the provided shampoo every morning. My recipient area is still red, tight with several scabs. What should be done and at what point in post-op to try to remove the scabs? My understanding is after 7-10 days, the grafts are fully secure. I also understand one should not pick the scabs. I've heard you can let shampoo sit on the scalp for 20 mins prior to rinsing. I've also been told I can lay a warm towel on my head for a few mins before shampooing. Are these approaches safe or are there other/better approaches one should take? I also want to confirm when it's safe for the scabs to come off. I assume at least 10 days post-op?
  3. I'm curious about a couple of things regarding recipient grafts and hair direction: - What is the ideal direction of hair in hairline area? - Once set during the procedure can it easily change direction during post-op? - If you're not happy with hair direction is that hard to deal with with respect to styling, etc? Thanks!
  4. Other than waiting 4-6 months before the new hair starts to grow, is there any way to know whether your grafts have taken? If they haven't fallen out in the first 7-10 days, can you reasonably assume they've taken root and you're in the "safe zone."
  5. If you had an FUT and the surgeon was out of town, where did you go to get your stitches removed? My surgeon is a few hours away so probably not worth the drive just to have my stitches removed. I called my dermatologist to see if she would do it but her assistant said if it was a HT she would not remove the stitches. I don't understand the reasoning but anyway, I'm wondering where to go for this. Primary care physician/Urgent care, other? Any suggestions?
  6. I had about 3100 grafts this past Tues and in day 4 of post-op. I had some native/existing hair in the recipient area (hairline) prior to the transplant. Not a lot but some. My question is does the native hair typically fall out as a result of the donor hair being transplanted in that area? If so, this would make sense since this area just had several thousand holes punched and new hairs transplanted in that area. I assume this would be normal to disrupt the native existing hair. Is that true?
  7. Yea, didn't make sense to me either but I was told that pain meds are sedative as well. BTW, Would Tylenol work as well as ibuprofen for pain management. I was prescribed narcotics but really don't want to take them.
  8. My FUT is coming up next week and I was told I shouldn't take pain meds for at least 3 days after my procedure. The reason is so that I don't fall asleep and not able to spray my head every hour. I'm curious how many people on the forum who have had an FUT have NOT had to take any pain meds afterwards. Is that normal? I assumed that I'll be in pain for a few days afterwards. Is it really not that bad? Maybe I'm overly concerned.
  9. How many FUE grafts can typically be done in a single visit?
  10. It's getting close to my FUT procedure and I'm getting nervous. I'm sure those of you who have gone through a HT procedure can relate. I keep asking myself whether I'll regret it. Then I'll have feelings of excitement that I'll have my hairline back and feel like my "old self" again. In the end, I think I'll be glad I did but there is always that concern in the back of my mind I won't be happy or will regret having it done. Is it normal to feel this way right before. If you're someone who has had an FUT, are you glad you did it afterwards and was it worth the expense, pain and inconvenience? I guess I'm looking for encouragement that others have gone through it and have been very happy with their decision. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi All, I'm scheduled to have an HT in a week and was curious about the timeline for the major milestones post-op. I know that time can vary with different people so just looking for a general timeframe so I can set realistic expectations for recovery. 1. When the new transplanted follicles are in the "safe zone" and cannot be accidentally knocked out. 2. When you can start showering and sleeping as normal. 3. The redness in recipient area goes away. 4. Sutures removed (FUT only). 5. New transplanted hair falls out and you look just like you did before the surgery. i.e., No one can tell you've had a HT. 6. New hair start to grow. 7. Recipient area (e.g., hairline) density has improved significantly. 8. Full benefit from the HT. i.e., hare has fully grown to full density.
  12. "Totally healed" as in new hair has fallen out, all redness is gone and no signs of a HT?
  13. Can FUT affect tinnitus? I have tinnitus and don't want to make it worse. Also, does the FUT incision cut into muscle and nerves?
  14. My surgeon told me after 5-7 days the follicles are set but prior to that you have to be careful not to knock them loose. How hard is it to keep from disturbing the new follicles after an FUT for the first week? Knowing me, I can see myself hitting my head or reaching up to scratch or rolling over at night, etc.
  15. How do you sleep after an FUT the first week while waiting for the follicles to take root? I sleep on my side and stomach but concerned I'd knock the follicles loose during the night. Also, I've read on the forum some folks sleep upright after the FUT for the first couple of nights but my surgeon said just sleep on my back with an extra pillow. Any suggestions for the best and safest way to sleep the first few nights/week after the FUT?
  16. I definitely don't have money to burn. 🙂 HT surgery is expensive enough! If there isn't significant benefit to Regenera (stem cell) then I see no reason to do it at least for me.
  17. James Taylor. He's my favorite artist and my daughter got these tickets for my birthday so I really can't miss it. My main concern is my hairline is healed and no longer obvious I had a HT. I suspect I can keep my hair longer in the back to hide the scar?
  18. I have an FUT scheduled for the first week in May. I just found out my family bought me tickets to see my favorite artist the last week of June just 2 months after my FUT. Will there be any visible sign that I just had a HT or should I expect to be totally healed by then?
  19. My HT surgeon offers Regenera stem cell treatment for an additional cost during the FUT. What is the experience of FUT recipients. Is this worth the extra cost?
