It's not the sides you need to be worried about, it's the back of your crown. It dips down very far. If that hair is thinning than it will lower the amount of possible grafts that could be safely extracted. It could be a bad haircut, bad lighting. The only way to know for sure is to get checked for miniaturization.

Thanks Melvin. I'll take your advice and contact a nearby clinic

you do not have to worry about having to drive, nor to be noticed at the airport, especially in Istanbul because you will not be the only one to have a headband nor a hat, they are used to it because so many people come and go  or who have done the hair transplant.  If I can give you some advice, be careful in the airplane not to give some headboard to the hatbox and you are especially careful that no one in placing the luggage in the hatbox makes it fall by mistake on your head and if you can book a seat side window so as to be  as far as possible.  The hat you have to know how to wear it (just put it on) and remove, lift it first from the back and then from the front, not the other way around.  That said good luck for your transplant.

Thanks mate, I have booked the window seat at the far back of the plane lol so I can take my time getting off. I will probably go without a hat

  3. Hello,

My surgery is booked for the 7th January and I will be flying back from Istanbul to the UK at 10:25am on the 9th January which is around a 4 hour flight I believe. The doctor has recommended 3000-3500 grafts

I have a couple of questions

    1) Will I be ok to drive from the airport to my house when I get back (2 hours) or should I arrange to be picked up? The doctor said that it should be ok so i'm trusting him but I have seen in rare cases the swelling can close your eyes!

    2) What were your experiences travelling back 2 days after the operation in regards to people staring at your bloodied heads, and if you got any curious looks from the passengers around you on the plane etc. I'd like to wear a cap but I'm worried about damaging the grafts so I think I'll just have to accept some stares and unease from my neighbours on the plane lol.

Thanks! I'll be sure to create a thread after the surgery

You can still visit another surgeon just for their expert advice. Where do you live?

I live in the north east of England. I'm yet to find a reputable surgeon near here :/ the closest would be FARJO in Manchester, but I've seen a lot of stuff which makes me strongly question them.

Here are some more photos to show what I'm working with. My sides are also thinning at the front and above the ear but that has been stable since I was 18 (7 years ago)

That zone does appear to miniaturizing. Did you see the surgeon in person? I suggest consulting with a local hair transplant surgeon so the donor can be examined under high-magnification.

No unfortunately I'm travelling to the surgeon so I'll have to see what he says when I arrive. From what I've read though he is an ethical doctor and he has seen the last photo in my original post and hasn't said anything. He recommended 3000-3500 grafts to cover the front and add density to the rest of the top but maybe he will suggest only doing the front and taking fewer grafts using only the thicker part of the donor or something. I will be seeing him in January and making a post here

Yeah that zone could be unstable.  Any males in the family with deep crown loss?

One grandad has quite low crown loss but not as deep as the thinning looks in my photos (dad's side). He's also 86 though, and had a fair amount of hair until after he turned 50 and it went downhill. The other grandad died in his 60's but at that time he had a reasonably thick NW6 with a high back and sides (mam's side). My dad is 52 and NW4 with a bit of diffuse thinning

I'm just puzzled with mine as it gets thicker above the little thin patch. My hair has grown to a grade 3 on the back and it's unnoticeable now

My guess with the extreme dense packing that was done in this area, it’s likely Dr.Hasson........don’t see anyone in North America or anywhere else with the surgical skill to pack em as tight as Hasson in the right situation for guys with medium to minimal hair loss like yourself......your result will be a home run....it’s already a home run 🤩

Looks like you were correct :)

  8. Hey guys, I've just signed up to this forum but I've been lurking here for a while and through the patient reviews I've decided on a doctor and booked my surgery for the 7th January :)

I'm looking at pictures of my donor area and I'm worried about a thin patch in the middle, what do you think?

August 2018 - Grade 1 shave. Note that this is when I stopped taking finasteride after 18 months and shaved my head

January 2019 - I believe this is a grade 2 on the back and sides

September 2019 - Grade 2. I started taking finasteride again in June 2019

Let me know what you think and if you think I have any reason to be worried about the outcome of the transplant.

    Thanks!
