  1. I think the reason there is a lot of speculation on the web about Dr. Cole's ethics but not much concrete info is that he threatens to sue anyone who tries to disseminate said info (I know he's made several legal threats against this site as well). That alone would make me avoid him because I figure someone who's innocent would rather resolve a situation than pay lawyers to threaten people. Looks like a shady character.

He may be very proficient, but what if he happens to make a mistake with you? Most good doctors would try to make it right via free correction work or a refund combined with a referral to a colleague. Would Cole do that? Or would he sue you for defamation if you complained on some forum?

Do you really want to risk finding out?

  2. I tried to read that blog, but the combination of crazy colors/all caps/anger made it nearly unintelligible. Whatever good information or legitimate gripe the author may be trying to convey is lost in the terrible delivery.

When he calms down in a year or so and rewrites it, I'm going to be happy to give it another whirl.

  3. Don't do it.

I waited 4 weeks after surgery to start lifting again and did not get back up to my usual weight until about 2 months after. I still stretched the scar (not much, but my doc noticed it).

Wait at least a month. Hey, if it makes it any easier, look at it this way: if you've been lifting 7 days/week for the past few months, a full month's break will actually do you good. If you've been lifting 3 or so days/week then you're not that serious about it, so what does it matter if you take a month off?

  4. Think about it chucky: a person makes an idiotic statement, has it proven wrong, tries to lie about it (with the truth about 4 posts up in the same thread!), has that exposed too, at which point the person ignores any & all references to their faux pas rather than be a man and admit own stupidity in that particular case.

Do you think such a person would stoop to an apology?

  5. Eyebrow, is it possible that you're reading too much into a doctor's reaction? I'd imagine an informed patient would be preferred for a HT since they'd be more likely to know what to expect and therefore, more easily satisfied by a good doc. If a doctor seems annoyed when asked detailed question about a procedure he's going to perform then, well... perhaps he's not the best physician for you. There are dozens of others, so shop around icon_smile.gif

I agree that underarm hair's not needed for any lubrication; I keep it shaved off/trimmed myself because I'm also a gym rat and it's easier/cleaner. As far as other areas, no personal opinion there but every girl I've known (in the Biblical sense) in the past few years has had those areas bare as well, so it doesn't seem necessary there either.

  6. I'm encouraged to see Dr. Beehner talk about a common dose being 1.25mg M/W/F. I've been taking 1.25mg daily for a year now and have lately been experiencing the side effects and considering quitting the meds (I think I have been... they're mild, but best to be safe). I'll try a reduced dose first and see how that goes.

After all, why bother with the hair if you can't get a boner? Kinda like spending $100K on a sports car and giving your driver's license away.

  7. They sell wigs and are real good at it; however, they're probably overpriced. First think about whether a wig is what you want - if that's the case, I would do some research and see if hairclub is the best around for this.

I can tell you with near certainty that you probably won't learn much during the appointment as it's going to be a sales meeting: them trying to sell you.

Actually, I do have one good piece of advice: go to the meeting, listen, but don't sign anything yet. After you've spoken to them, check around online and do your research. Then, and only then, you can go back to them and sign if you still want to.

I've never worn a wig so I can't speak from personal experience, but from reading other people's stories it's generally been a bad idea. You replace one type of anxiety with another. Where before you used to worry about how you look bald/balding, afterwards you will worry 4x more about anyone noticing your wig.

  8. On the good side, the bevhills folks do clearly state that a HT (be it the flap-of-doom or regular grafts) will not make ya look like you used to; the new hair'll be thin. So at least they're bot bullshitting potential patients. They are, at worst, just guilty of not updating their techniques to take advantage if developments in the field.

To the OP: don't let my playing the devil's advocate confuse ya - don't go to these people.

  9. Actually Bill, the wigs AHS sells look horrible by all accounts. They're also extremely overpriced and it's hell to try to get a refund.

Golden, don't go to AHS. If you want a wig, find a reputable wig shop. Otherwise get on Propecia and get a transplant in 8-9 years (most reputable doctors won't work on someone who's 19 because your hair loss pattern is likely not established yet and they run the risk of making you look bad in the long term).

  10. From personal experience, I drink a decent amount: 1-2 times a week I'll have a couple of beers with friends/coworkers. I also take propecia. I have noticed no side effects other than then the usual side effects of alcohol consumption (occasional vomiting, hangover, going home with a fat girl).

I'd say you're safe mixing the two.

  11. Very misleading topic.

Smoking doesn't do a thing to increase risk of hair loss. Each individual's risk of hair loss is a constant determined at birth by their genetic makeup; I'd expect someone with 300+ posts here to know that icon_smile.gif

Smoking will accelerate hair loss for those destined to lose hair, true. But it has nothing to do with the "if", rather with the "how" when it comes to MPB.

  12. Sxaden, if you're East African (black, not Arabic?) then you're actually in luck - your hair will tend to be thicker, curly and close in color to your skin. Which means a HT will do much more for you, cosmetically, than it would for a white guy. So you can rest easy knowing that in 3-4 years you will be able to restore your hair to the way it used to look.

And for now, shave your head and hit the gym if you haven't yet. A bald guy in good shape will draw in more women than a scrawny (or fat) one with a hairy noggin.

  13. I had a blood test done before my surgery. Boy, was it nerve wracking. You know you don't have HIV, you know you haven't been engaged in high-risk behavior, and yet the few days it takes for the blood test to come back & confirm that you're ok are some of the longest in yer life icon_smile.gif
