  1. ^ I quoted you but added ***'s next to my new comments. And, some side notes... 1) Looking at my pictures, do you think (honestly!!), I would look okay if I lost a lot of hair on the top of my head? 2) Is it harder to meet women if one is balding?
  2. Wow, thank you all for the information! Here are some pictures, I just cut my hair real short, and you can see the thinning temples really well now. I think I'll grow my hair out some so it's not as noticeable http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/Jordloss.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/Jordloss2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/Jordloss3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/Jordloss4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/Jordloss5.jpg By the way, I've always had a high hairline, here's an older picture of me: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/tv.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v126/taoofjord/Hair/kissbeth.jpg Those are both from about 2-3 years ago... but they are the best I could find on my computer.
  3. (I'm 22 years old. Mother's side: Her father had little hairloss, her grandfather had a good amount of hair loss, NW 4, I think. Father's side: My father and his father - Recending hair-line, not too much loss in the crown area. My crown is fine, but my hair in general isn't as dense as it once was, and my hairline is starting to thin and recede at the temples and a little at the front.) 1) If one starts losing their hair at a younger age, does that have any correlation with: -Losing more hair in their life time? -Whether one stabalizes or not? (In other words, I started losing my hair when I was 20 years and 6 months. Does this mean I will probably not stabalize soon?) 2) My dad has receding temples, and so do both of my half-brothers, I'm getting this as well, but at a yougner age. Does that mean I'm not following their pattern? 3) I'm now taking Nioxin, Nizoral, Propecia, and I'm thinking about taking L-lysine. I'm really going crazy about losing my hairline so I know thats a lot But my doctor told me that one of his patients went from taking 1 pill of proecia a day to 2 pills of propecia a day for 2 months. He said the man saw improvement. Now, have any of you heard about this? And if so, is it possible it could help at my hairline, or is propecia for the crown area only? 4) I'm curious about concealing products like Toppik. Do they work as well as the advertisments say? The last thing I want is to look like I'm covering up my lack of hair. 5) What is this future treatment, Dutasteride I read about on the bald truth.com? I don't htink the site has been updated for a while but they said that should be available around 2002. 6) Is there a correlation between scaling dandruff and hair loss? I have the type of dandruff where there are larger "chunks" coming off at the top of my head. I'm on nizoral to get rid of that, but I've had this for about a year now. If this goes away, is there a chance my hair loss could slow down and I could possibly even grow the hair back? 7) Other than therapy, do you have any personal recommendations on how to be more confident in yourself? I'm not a very confident person to begin with, but now that I just started seeing a sizable difference at my temples I'm getting really depressed. I don't want anyone to see me, and this isn't good since I have school coming up in a week. 8) If I play with my hair at my hairline (where I see the most difference), will I make my temples recede faster? 9) Being 22 years old, how long would you recommend I wait till I start considering a hair transplant?
  4. Haven't heard of MSM, whats that? And yeah, I think I will stick with nioxin and use nazoral with it.
  5. I'm thinking of stopping nioxin and switching to nizoral. I'm already on propecia. I'm just wondering if stopping nioxin will make your hair fall out like when you stop rogaine. Thanks

  7. Well I rarely touch my hair so it would be shocking when someone actually does and i see all the hair that comes out. It seems my hair falls out quite easily. And I've been on propecia for over a year now. I'm pretty sure there are less hairs falling out now, but it's hard to tell since I cut it really short now and rarely touch it. It was easier to notice when my hair was longer.
  8. Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that when a girl DOES play with my hair, a lot falls out. I can go to the sink afterwards and brush off maybe 15 or so hairs with my hands. Is that normal?
  9. The only side effect I got from propecia took maybe 4-6 months to start up. It was testicular pain and it sucked! But it went away. Wshew.
  10. Oops, I'm sorry, I forgot to say "thanks" for the compliment. So, thanks.
  11. Well i have definately noticed a difference at my temples, they have started going back/receding. It's not a HUGE difference as I've always had a high hairline but I've noticed it. Also, the very center of the front of my hairline, as can be seen in the picture, is thinning. I find this kinda of weird because I've never noticed this on anyone with a receding hair line. The main problem is that I have a lot of hair that falls out when I touch it. So I don't touch it, ever. But lets say my girlfriend runs her fingers through my hair, if i go to the sink and just brush the loose hairs off my head with my hands i'll find maybe 15 or so hairs. And this isn't counting the ones that likely fell off when she was playing with it. I'm basically trying to stop the hairloss before I notice much a difference but by the sound of it, the hairline is nearly impossible to slow down/stop. By the way, would you say I have a large head? Do you think I'd look bad if I had to shave my head completely in the future? I've always though I had a large forehead and head in general so thats the main reason I'm so concerned with losing my hair.
  12. I'm 22 years old, my hair line is receding but I'm not really losing it anywhere else. But I'm very paranoid about it. My mother's father isn't bald and neither is my father so I'm not sure if I should be so worried but I can't help it. It started falling out a year and a half ago. It's not bad enough at all for a hair transplant but I would try and get one if it went that far.
  13. I'm not sure if I'm willing to use lotions daily as that is kinda a pain in the butt. It also freaks me out because I don't like to touch my hair cause I think it pulls more out. Massaging lotion onto my scalp would only freak me out more. Anyway, all recommendations are welcome, I figure that I might as well use one or two other things to see if that helps me regrow my hairline.

  15. The girls I date often want to play with my hair, but I usually tell them not to for one reason or another. To be honest, I'm scared that it will make me lose my hair faster. Is that true or can I let them play with it as much as they want?

  17. Ah okay. And is the minox used only in the areas where the hair is thinning? Or is it for your whole head? By the way, my grandfather's on my mom and dad's side still have a good amount of hair. As does my dad, who only has a receding hair line (as do my other two brothers). Does this mean I won't go completely bald and the worst I'll have is a receding hair line? If so, then why did mine start much earlier than the rest of them?
  18. Not to be rude, but thats BS, many guys look good bald when its cut short, I seriously doubt it will be THAT much harder to meet women. I have no trouble as it is, and as long as you are a nice guy with decent looks, hair or not, you shuoldn't have a problem.
  19. Hmmm, alright.... So why proscar over propecia? And why minox and nizoral? Isn't it a total pain in the ass to apply lotions to your scalp twice (or however many times) a day? I've tried a scalp lotion and it was so hard to apply that I gave up on it. And if I switch from propecia to proscar, would that screw up my hair now?
  20. Thanks for all the comments, this is just a quick reply, but I'll be back with answers to your questiosn and some more pictures in a day or two. I forgot to mention that I am also using nioxin every day. However, I rarely see that mentioned here, is it worthless or should I keep using it?
  21. Hello all, I'm in general, a very self-conscious person, but nothing has upset me more than when I started losing my hair a year and a half ago. I've been on propecia for about a year now and the hair line continues to recede and I continue to get more depressed. It's to the point where I just don't want to go outside. Beyond that, I'm going gray and I have the scaly-type of dandruff, which certainly doesn't make the whole self-esteem issues surrounding my head any easier to handle. Here's a picture that was taken last week, I have more pics I can put up if anyone wants to see... Now, seeing as I'm still young and that I have no idea how far my hair loss will progress, what do you think I should do? Will it be a problem if I get a transplant in the near future and then I end up losing a lot more hair in the next couple years? I've been thinking of just shaving my head but I think that would only make matters worse. But I've become so obsessed over my hair loss that it's all I think about. Whenever anyone touches my head I almost cringe and check to see if I lost any hair. I always look at my hands while shampooing and conditioning, I never comb my hair, and I relentlessly inspect myslef in the mirror or any reflective surface I pass by. Anyway, what do you think I should do? I know the transplant is expensive but if it allows me to be happy again, the money issue is not a problem. Are there other things I can use in conjunction with propecia that could help my hair grow back? Anyway, thanks for reading, Jordan
