  1. Hi Jimmy86. Welcome to India. Don't worry everything will be fine. VIzag is one of the safest city in India. Best of luck for your HT.:)

So here I am laying on a bed in a hotel in Visakhapatnam, india the night before my first ever transplant and i cant explain the feelings im going through, Excitement, anxious, worried, i feel so many different emotions at the moment its making me sick.

To start off with ive never been overseas before so coming from a country like Australia and travelling to india well.. this whole thing has been quite daunting to say the least, i landed last night at the vizag airport and once I cleared immigration i immediately had some random homeless looking guy approach me and basically demanded that he help me carry my luggage, he wouldnt take no for an answer so i ended up letting him and he took me to a seedy lookin guy and said he was a taxi man to say i was scared woulda been an understatement, he then put my bag in the cab "3rd world shit box" and stood there looking at me thats when i realized he did that for money lol so i pretty much jumped straight into the cab and off we go, the drive was, well... let's just say I really didn't think I was going to make it to the hotel, there are basically no road rules here and this guy was weaving in and out of trucks at high speed with motorcycles crossing our path and everyone is constantly beeping at each other WTF!!! I literally thought i was going to die!! Ive been here about 24 hrs now and have not seen one "white person" anywhere!!! i stand out like a pair of dogballs at this place. I decided to walk to a near by shop this morning and i got half way around the corner and noticed every single person kept staring at my brand new white shoes i was wearing so i decided that if i want to live long enough to get a transplant then i need to get back to the hotel and swap em for my flip flops which i did very quickly. i also took off my sunnys and changed into some older less newer clothes and headed back out there, After i got back, without going into detail let's just say I refuse to go back out into those streets unless it's for needing to go to the surgery which is across the road and even getting there is like playing a game of fogger across 4 lanes of insanity.

    Im absolutely shitting myself!!!

And on top of that my mind is racing just thinking if this transplant is going to go well.

    OMG KILL ME NOW!!!!

  2. Day 3(31/10/2017)

Today surgery started at 10 AM. Today I also saw images of a grafts with 6 hair follicles but sadly it is not mine but of a patient admitted in adjacent OT. :( Mine were maximum singles and doubles. Day started with Dr. Arika making additional 200 slits to fill the gap. Then Dr. Shishir gave anesthesia on the right side of my jaw line. He then punched 1112 grafts from my beard. around 800 grafts were implanted while making me seating on the chair. Previously most of the times my eyes were covered to protect them from accidentally falling of needles. But this time my they forgot to cover my eyes and i saw how technicians were handling the grafts. Many times they were dropping grafts which they think have damaged roots. This made me realized how they are counting grafts that are actually implanted.

As per process Dr. will make punch, technician will pull it, another technician standing by will count how many grafts were pulled by first technician and write them down on white board. So technically they count number of grafts extracted (and not implanted) and tally them with slits made by Doctor.

Dr. Arika came again, made additional 200 slits, technicians implanted additional 200 beard grafts which were already extracted and resting in saline water.

Day 3 was completed by 2pm.

    Three Days summary:-

    total slits-6000

    total grafts extracted-6037.

    i was charged for 6000 grafts .

As per Dr. Shishir, there is no wastage/damage of grafts. Only those grafts are thrown which had weak roots.

Anyways lets hope for the best. Outcome can be only known in coming months.

  3. DAY 2( 30/10/2017)

DAY 2 was again a busy day at Eugenix. Three surgeries were planned that day. All three OTs at Eugenix were occupied. Today I was greeted by Dr. Shishir. He is with Eugenix since last 2.5 years. He gave me anesthesia at left side of my beard. I must admit, anesthesia to jaw line is more painful than head. Day 2 was no rest day. from 10 am to 2.30 pm Dr. Shishir and 3-4 technicians were keep on pressing my jaw line. By then they have extracted 2500 beard grafts and implanted 500 grafts on that side of the head. Then i had a quick half n hour lunch break. After half n hour i was made sit on the chair and two technicians started spreading grafts as a filler all over my head for another 1 hour. After that i was again made to lie-down and Dr. Shishir gave anesthesia on the right side of my back scalp. He punched 1400 grafts which was pulled by technicians and was implanted by 7 PM by same process. When Dr. Arika came for inspection she suggested that we can plan additional 500 grafts so that total 6000 grafts will be implanted. I was already tired and had no energy to go further. So we planned to get it done on Day 3.

    Day 2 summary:-

    Additional slits-NIL

    No. of Beard grafts-2500

    No. of Head Grafts-1400

    total grafts so far-4925

    slits remaining-675

  4. Little about myself

As written in my previous post, i am NW6 was wearing hair patch since last 14 years and was looking for hair transplant. Finally i settled for Eugenix, Gurgaon which is run by Dr. Pradeep Sethi and Dr. Arika Bansal. Why Eugenix? Because i had very weak scalp donor area having thin/silky hairs. And it was the only clinic that assured maximum use of beard grafts on head. Before visiting them I also met Dr. Gaurang Krishna of Medlinks. He seems to be a genuine person. He told me upfront that i had a weak donor area and should not have high hopes.

Anyways, Dr. Pradeep suggested 5500 grafts, 2000-2500 from beard and rest from the scalp to be completed in two days. He also suggested that we may plan another 2500 grafts after a month or two for added density.

    Day 1(29/10/2017)

Day 1 surgery started at 1.30 PM. It began by taking lots of photographs and then a front hairline drawn by Dr. Pradeep Sethi with the help of marker pen. From there I was shifted to OT room. In the OT room I was greeted by Dr. Abhinav. He is with Eugenix since last 1.5 years. Surgery started my making slits marks on scalp by Dr. Arika. She first made 2500 slits starting from forehead till mid scalp. While she was making slits, one technician was counting the same and writing on the white board. Then my hairs were trimmed and Dr. Abhinav gave me local anesthesia.

Now whole process of extraction and transplantation was like this:-

Since it was DHT where graft remain out with minimum time possible, Dr. Abhinav was punching grafts, one technician was pulling them out, another was collecting them and handing them over to two technicians who were dipping them in saline water( which was kept over ice pad) loading them and handing grafts to a technician who then transplant them to recipient area. The whole process was taking maximum 10 minutes. When because of head position it was not possible to transplant, grafts were first extracted, collected/loaded and then simultaneously implanted by two technicians after changing head position. In this scenario grafts remain out for 20-25 minutes.

Since it was Sunday, it was busy day at the clinic. Though single surgery was planed that day, there were lots of walk in patients, consultations for transplant etc. By 6 pm only 1025 grafts could be transplanted in the front hairline. At 6 pm Dr. Pradeep came and examined my donor scalp. He suggested that i have weak donor scalp and should forget about 8000 grafts. According to him we should work around 5500 grafts only with maximum grafts from beard hair.

He then designed my crown by making 3100 slits which was counted in the same way.

The day was called off with beard hairs extraction planed for next day.

So Day 1 summary:- Slits 5600, grafts transplanted 1025.

Next day surgery to start at 10 am.

Attaching pictures before and after Day 1 surgery.

  5. Hi CJ,

Just a thought, have you considered SMP, you seen to have the ideal head shape for it and there are some fantastic results recently posted on this forum. I suppose you could give it a bash prior to any hair transplant surgery. You might be pleasantly surprised by the outcome and knock surgery on the head altogether.

If you still decide to go for surgery then the SMP will help create the illusion of a denser scalp once your new implants start to grow.

With regards to surgery, your case is a challenging one and as mentioned you will not have that much left at the back so there will be a trade off. If you go down the FUT route you will find it difficult to hide the scar once you have had the proposed follow up surgery(s).

As for body hair, the beard and chest are proven to work best. The pubic area is also an option. Generally these grafts are used as filler in areas behind your hairline usually in a 4:1 ratio alongside scalp grafts to help create more density.

can anyone suggest good SMP center in India?

    Thanks

  6. I was getting 5mg Proscar tablets and splitting them into four pieces - so 1.25mg per day.

I would hesitate to blame the Finasteride for the skin problem. It's unlikely that the drug would cause this after 2.5 months of use and it's not exactly a common side effect. There could be another reason for it.

As you've seen such a great improvement with the drug, I would encourage you to stick with it.

Will it help if I start with .5 mg finasteride. Will it give same results with less chances of side effects.

If I think of start taking it then how long I have to take it to see noticable change in my hair line.

I also read in this forum that moment you stop taking it you will be back to square one.

  7. Hi PM.

I have been using hair system since last 14 years. I was NW1 at that time and I am NW6 right now. I was young at that time and didn't liked my balding head in the mirror. Of course it gave me immense confidence at that time. I used to think no one could detect hair patch on my head. It was true for initial weeks when you freshly comes out of saloon after service or for people whom you occasionally meet for short duration of time. But people around you, like your relatives or your peers, will easily make out that you are wearing a patch which is not real.

At the end of the day it is your mindset which decides whether you are ok with the hair patch or not.

I am now 38 and seriously considering of hair transplant even though I know I will never get density which I am used to looking my self in the mirror.

  8. As per Dr. Bhatti's mail ...he will plant 40 grafts per sq cm in front and 20 grafts per sq cm at the crown.

    3. What kind of density I can expect after the transplant?

To create the most natural looking hairline Dr Bhatti will select only the finest 1 haired follicular units for placement in the first two rows of the hairline. Dr Bhatti will dense pack up to 55 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2) for your hairline.

Your hairline will be planted with greater density, this density will be gradually decreased moving backward in order to provide you with more coverage. This will look the more natural when grown. I would personally recommend concentrating purely on the front and midscalp in the first session and coming back in 6 - 12 months to address the crown and maybe another pass over the previously implanted area (if required) once your donor area has recovered fully.

  9. Thanks Mayira and Shera for valuable insight. I was wondering why some doctors recommend 6 months gap between two sessions and some doctors are comfortable with back to back sessions. Though my personal preference will be back to back sessions because I don't want to through hair regrowth cycle again and again. But will these quick sessions will be at the cost of excessive shock loss?

    Thanks

  10. Hi everyone. I have been reading wonderful stories of hair restoration on this forum since last one month. I did my research on FUE through this website and by meeting and emailing various doctors which I came to know via this forum.

I am 38 years old male and have been losing hairs since the age of 24. Since then I am using hair system which is fixed to my head via glue and tape. In other words, I never let the world know that I was losing hairs as I started using the patch at very early stage of baldness. I love fitness and try my best to feel and look young. Every now and then I use to get compliments in my peers as how young and fit I look. But at the same time I know that I got something fake fixed on my head. Nowadays there is this uneasiness in my head thinking what people might be thinking of me who make out this fake hair patch on my head. So with all these mixed thought processes, I am thinking to go with hair transplant. I mailed my pictures to various doctors who assessed my case differently. As per them I have Stage VI baldness. I also have very thin and silky hairs. I want to get my full head covered and I am not comfortable to leave out my crown area. I am not looking for very aggressive or dense hairline. It should be just enough to cover my head.

As per Dr. Bhatti of Darling Buds, it can be done in two sessions 6 months apart. In first session he may extract 3000 grafts from the back and 500 grafts from beard. In second he will extract 1500 grafts from the back.

As per Dr. Madhu and Dr. Suneet Soni, 3500-4000 grafts can be taken out by strip method (FUT) only and they did not recommend FUE because of limited donor area. These 4000 grafts will only cover four finger area of my front head.

As per Dr. Arika Gupta of Euginex, 2000 grafts from beard hair and 4000 grafts from the head will be extracted in back to back sessions ( 2 days) and another 2000 grafts from the head after 1 month. This makes total of 8000 grafts.

As per Dr. Gaurang Krishna of Medlinks either 3000 grafts each in two sessions 6 months apart or 2500 grafts on 1st day and another 2500 on 2nd day. Out of these 1200-1500 grafts will be of beard hairs.

Now with all this information I am totally confused. My points of concern are:-

    1. How may grafts I actually need to fully cover my bald area?

    2. Do I actually have enough donor grafts to meet this expectation?

    3. What kind of density I can expect after the transplant?

    4. Do I actually a right candidate for HT?

    5. What about my looks? Will I look older after HT than what I look now

Guys please help me out on this. I am attaching pictures of my head for assessment.

    Thanks in advance.
