  1. As someone who has an FUT HT procedure planned in the next several months, I'm a little concerned about the number of people I see on this forum who refer to issues they have with "concealers."

While I'm sure that some people can pull these off, the few times I've seen someone wearing concealer (basically, spray paint) on their heads, I thought it looked utterly absurd. In fact, I once was out with someone who was clearly wearing concealer on his head and I, literally, could not stop staring at it. This particular person looked so completely ridiculous to me that I could not believe someone would even dream of leaving the house with it on their head.

Like I said, I'm sure some people can pull it off, but my impression of "concealers" is very, very bad.

Now, I'm very concerned. Is it basically expected that you should wear some kind of concealer on your head after you get an HT? What percentage of people require a concealer to go along with their HT? If this is basically the norm, I would seriously reconsider the whole procedure.

I'm still waiting for the final results of my third surgery. I'm 6.5 months post third surgery and my scalp still shows underneath the transplanted hair, so I'm still dependent on Toppik to cover my scalp. I had three surgeries with two different surgeons , the second surgeon is one of the top recommended in this forum. I had a consultation with the first surgeon after my second surgery complaining that my scalp still shows under transplanted hair and he told me that's normal for hair transplant to show scalp because a HT will never restore my teenager hair. I will wait another 5 months for the final results if there's no improvement I would feel scammed because I didn't know that I would need to use Toppik after HT.

  2. I am a transgender girl who was looking for a doctor that had a strong emphasis on the female hairline. After a half dozen consultations I felt Dr Beehner was the right surgeon for my situation. I needed someone that could transplant within hairs without the need for shaving.

My degree of hair loss isn't probably bad to most people. I had some diffused thinning in the central part region with average temple recession for someone my age. I settled with 2050 grafts, mainly to construct a feminine hairline and to fill in some of the diffused areas in the central part region. I am now one year and one month post op.

With that said, I am really happy with the end result. I will admit, I had the worst shock loss ever in both recipient and donor areas. None of it was permanent, but expected. I once again have regained my confidence and thank Dr Beehner for restoring that along with my hair.

I'm curious: As a transgender do you take hormones treatments and are they helpful stopping hair loss ?

  3. I'm scheduled to undergo an FUT procedure in the next 6 months. While I have looked at hundreds of photos of HT procedures during my research, I have never (knowingly) seen a HT in person. This makes me a little nervous, as I would love to get an up-close look at what the results look like in real life, rather than a photograph, which can obviously be staged to look ideal.

That being said, my biggest concern about the resulting hair is: how will this hair look when it is wet or sweaty? My current hair is probably a NW2 to NW3, but when I get sweaty while jogging or at the gym, it can look like a full-blown NW4-NW5. Water and sweat REALLY exposes hair loss.

While I understand the "illusion" of an HT in ideal settings, do HT's look really bad in the heat, when ones head sweats?

Also, what about the scar? If someone has wet hair from swimming or showering, does an FUT scar become visible?

Actually one of the reasons I went to another surgery to add density is to get rid of Toppik because concealers look very bad when you sweat or under rain

  4. I dont know the # of firms working on it but it "feels" like it is not a lot of pharma companies in relation to the "problem". Imagine if you discovered the "cure" for a problem that effects about 1 in 3 humans on earth! I mean other than heart disease I cannot imagine something that affects more people on the planet. So I am sometimes surprised you don't hear of 50+ pharma companies devoting resources to it.

I don't expect anything significant in my lifetime to be honest.

There are higher priorities like HIV and Cancer so hairloss is a minor issue for labs.

Can you imagine HIV virus has been there for 30 years and labs couldn't figure out a cure or even a vaccination for it

  5. So my understanding if someone gets castrated when he's teenager, he won't get bald and would just keep his juvenile hairline

Also an older man starting to bald would stop losing hair and probably even grow new hair if he gets castrated

After reading about the side effects of Finasteride Propecia, it looks the same side effects as someone who has been castrated , so does taking Finasteride/Propecia the same as being castrated ?

  6. I see definite improvements the hairline has a much more defined shape than before. Dr Wong is one of the best so I am sure things will thicken you are just a late bloomer.

Stay positive and please keep us all posted.

Thanks. I cannot take pictures of the crown where Dr Wong implanted 400 grafts. Does it take longer for the crown to grow new hair ? I feel there's zero growth there but not sure if also the bald area in the crown expanded after surgery because of shock loss.

  7. I agree but in his case its highly unlikely. I remember having thick hair. I am came across my photo when I graduated along with a photo when I was 19. I never though I would lose my hair. I enclosed the photos.

See, you used to have the same hairline as this guy, what made you think that it's highly unlikely that this guy will lose his hair ?

PS: I wish Justin Bieber who made fun of prince William baldness would also become bald when he get older, Karma ..:D

  8. In Vancouver we have a huge Chinese population although a lot less than other nationalities they do lose their hair. Native Indians in my opinion rarely lose their hair. I have never met one that has lost their hair.

It's very rare nowadays in Canada to find a full blooded native indian, most of them have mixed with whites, so a lot of them have some white genes

  9.

I'm assuming you live in Alberta because you chose Dr.Gilepsie. Did you think about Dr.Nakatsui?

Also was there a big difference between Dr.Gilepsie and Dr. Wong. Clinic, pain, cost etc.

I had a consultation with Dr.Nakatsui after my second surgery with Dr Gillespie and before my last surgery with Dr Wong . He said this a low density hair transplant. The reason why I didn't move forward with Dr.Nakatsui because he didn't give me a clear answer why this was a low density transplant? Was it because of the large area covered ?or because of some grafts didn't grow ?or because of the doctor lack of skills? or because of my hair characteristics ?

Dr Wong refused to blame Dr Gillespie work and told me this was because the area to cover was large and needed more hair.

The main difference between the surgery with Dr Wong and Gillespie is that Dr Wong operates on two patients in the same day, so he spends less time with patients compared to Dr Gillespie who has one patient per day.

  10. It would be interesting like other members have said to see where you started from.

The pictures I have posted here ( 10 days post last surgery), might give you an idea about the area covered ( Dr Wong shaved all the recipient area before surgery) and the extent of my baldness. All of this area would look bald without 6900 grafts implanted by both doctors

  11.

Also, I think Insigne has one of the craziest hairlines i've ever seen. This kid could lose 4,000 grafts in his hairline and it still wouldn't look receded lol.

    bSDjUHK.jpg

You never know , he might become a Norwood 6 when he get 40. I have seen NW6 guys who used to have this hairline in their 20's

  12. Yes improvement

you'll probably need another pass or 2 if you are not satisfied with current density

I agree with you re: the 6 month mark comment

Not that the grafts won't thicken and continue to grow in the future, THEY WILL.

It just seems that if your not satisfied at around the 6 month point, you (the patients) more than not, would Iike to have another pass, regardless if you (they) do or not

As you have experienced, sometimes it requires many passes to achieve the density we envision, regardless of the growth

    Looking good

Not sure if another pass is technically possible . I think I have exhausted all of my donor hair : almost 7000 grafts in three surgeries( 6000 grafts in the front/mid scalp and 1000 in the crown). I don't think I have any donor hair left. In the last surgery Dr Wong tried his best to extract the maximum but couldn't pull more than 2900 grafts. He couldn't pull 4000 grafts we have previousily agreed because my scalp was already tight with two previous surgeries

Do you think this what you expect for this number of grafts and for that area to cover? I posted 10 days post op pictures to give you an idea about the area covered

  13.

I would love to see your before pictures just out of curiosity. If you were a NW6, this is a fantastic improvement already.

    !

I found pictures taken 10 days after my last surgery ( DR wong shaved the recipient area before surgery) that might give you an idea about the area covered and how I would look like without transplanted haire, Those pictures don't show the crown area where there is also a big bald spot where Dr Wong added 400 grafts and Dr Gillespie 500 grafts

  14. I definitely see some improvement, but I would give it at least a full year before you expect full results. While some guys see the majority of their growth by month 6, it's not something that should be expected.

I would love to see your before pictures just out of curiosity. If you were a NW6, this is a fantastic improvement already.

In the meantime, stay patient and happy growing!

I don't have accurate before pictures because that was my third surgery ( I had a couple of surgeries with Dr Gillespie ) and I started as Norwood 4 before my first surgery , I lost of lot of hair between surgery 1 and 2 . But when Dr Wong examined my scalp before surgery , he told me that I would be Norwood 6 without transplanted hair, he didn't want to blame Dr Gillespie Work for lack of density and said the area to cover was large.

The last couple of surgeries I haven't seen much growth after month 6, so I don't feel optimistic about future growth
