  1. 1 Month Post Op

One month down and I am deep in the ugly duckling phase now. From previous cases I've reviewed I always find the majority of people look at their worst during month one and two. So let's hope it goes quickly.

I shaved my donor area this morning to a three guard and still unsure whether this was a good thing. It definitely looks a little tidier but I can see some scars at this length and also I seem to have a little cluster of red spots on one side. I have found myself itching this area so this could be why. I have sent the photo to the clinic so will see what they make of it.

I don't have any pain at all anymore. Still some numbness in the frontal area though. As for the shedding I am still seeing hairs in the shower but am also clinging on to some of the transplanted hairs in the frontal area. I have maybe a little lingering redness but nothing that I think is really noticeable. I have perhaps suffered a little shock loss throughout as seems a little thinner. Could be a Fin shed though as have switched back to brand from generic.

    I have attached some photos.

Doesn't look that bad mate, 4 more weeks and you'll be thru it. I plan the same post 2 weeks, leave as is in office and home and wear baseball cap everywhere else. Have day 2 surgery on Monday, doesnt look like I'll have much redness but lets see.

  2. Thanks Ernie

Yeah, its changing quite fast. I'm not overly stressing as I know its very early days, but the pessimist in me can't help but worry a little.

As for the buzz cut, I am really in two minds. As you can see below (picture taken today at the office), front doesn't quite cover it yet. Its almost there so I am tempted to keep it longer so that I have some shape and of course the top is getting to the point where I'll soon be triming that too so it'll eventully catch up.

Looking great for 12 weeks and your top is covering it much better than you think. I would steer clear of buzz cut, have read many people trying it and regret later.

I got my day 1 done yesterday, all good so far, have day 2 on Monday. Hope to join the growth train soon!

  3. Just thought I'd do a quick post at 5 weeks, I've shed quite a few hairs but some remain or have started growing wondered what some of you thought to this? I'll post pictures of both temples which were previously bald. Also had quite a few spots in my donor which are a bit sore and itchy but nothing major.

Looking great for just 5 weeks mate. Not much redness either. Did you get a haircut or native hairs growing back slow?

  4. Thanks, does seem to have a bit of momentum behind it at the moment, hopefully that continues.

I'm not sure, in some lighting it looks quite minimal, in other light more noticable. To be honest the growth is now making the area more obvious if anything with incoming hairs starting to frame the hairline a little.

Well not sure the ugly duckling phase is quite gone yet, if anything its slightly more noticable now as there is some shorter growth next to longer hair, but I think in a month the my fringe (or bangs as they say in the states) will cover it .. although once there is a little more density to it, I am considering taking all the top down to a grade 4 again so that it blends in with the transplated hair a little more. I do take pics almost daily for myself, but to be honest its not that noticable from day to day, but I will post when ever (like above) I see some definate progress. Will also post next Wednesday as thats my official 3 months.

I am, but still cautiously optimistic as its still early days, do still worry (not stressing or laying up at night though) a little about when the final density will be like. As for jealousy, don't be, you'll soon be experiencing it yourself, time really flies by, I really can't believe it'll be 3 months next week.

Guess its a good thing time flies fast ;) i'll be at asmed in a week, hopenext 4 months passes fast!

  5. Cheers pal, appreciate that. I know it is going to get worse though!

Good luck hkuser, are you at Asmed?

Thank you! Likewise I will keep an eye on your updates as well.

Asmed yes and exactly 1 month behind you with similar size procedure, following closely to get a sense of what to expect. Dreaded by the thought of going to work as an ugly duckling but guess will have to tough it thru

  6. 19 Days Post Op

It looks like the first few months of 2017 are going to be hard ones for me. The shed has really kicked off this morning. I could see no less than a hundred hairs in my hands this morning when showering. As much as I have mentally prepared myself for it, there's no denying it's a pretty crappy feeling. The past 3 weeks have been brilliant with my new hair all in place and I even found myself wondering if I would be the lucky one who didn't shed. Clearly not!

No pain to speak off at all. I still have itchiness but only in the donor area. Recipient area is still numb but it does feel like it's improving. I can't see any redness at all but will be clearer when more of the hair sheds. I have been in constant dialogue with Asmed about any concerns I have had and they have always got back to me immediately. I have been advised not to wear any concealer for the first 3 months or use any other cosmetic products. Will be nice next week when I can trim the donor area though.

My original and transplanted hair seems to be growing really quickly. Not sure if this is a good sign or not.

Back in to the office tomorrow and I have no option of a hat so just going to have to deal with it. 3 weeks down, hopefully only another 9 until I am back to my old self!

Have attached a picture of the donor area as well this time.

Wow you've been really lucky with the redness, hope I'm too, 10 days to go lol

  7. Thanks Will. I believe Asmed is doing a London consultation in Feb so I would definitely email to find out and get yourself booked in.

No, I think it's only necessary if it's over 10,000 euro or something like that, I didn't even consider it to be honest.

Update .. okay so I was going to wait until next week which is my 3 months anniversary but I can't resist so here is today's pictures. In 2nd pic I've highlighted the area which was previously completely bald.

Well done mate, happy growing. Btw is there a significant reduction in redness past 1 week or just the lighting diff in the pics?

  8. I'm here right now... and the internet connection is extremely slow.. you probably won't notice while browsing.. but the speed is limited to around 200k (per device). Pretty pathetic. The wifi at the clinic is actually amazing.. 70mbps.. Downloaded a 4gb file in less than 10 minutes at the clinic.. took HOURS at the hotel.

Kind of sucks for me since I have to download large files to do my work.. whereas if I downloaded at the clinic it would literally take a few minutes.

I couldn't watch youtube videos at 1080 or 720 here.. It's my first night.. so we'll see..

The best thing about the hotel is by the desk there is a wall plate that has HDMI, ethernet, 2 multi-support outlets (america, uk, uae, europe, etc).. powered USB port, and some older connections (rca audio, s-video, vga plug). I can add a picture if you need.. and probably will throw it up on TripAdvisor.

Regarding the asmed hat. rofl. I would not wear it.. in fact.. I just walk around without it. Like JustJax mentioned previously.. it's weird that you just stop kind of caring about it. I plan to wear my regular hat after a few days.. I think you can wear them after 4-5 days if swelling permits..

*edit : If you use an optical mouse.. the desk is glass.. My mouse can usually handle it.. but it's useless on this thing.. so I would recommend bringing a mousepad.. or, failing that, just grab one of the menus for room service.. that works well enough.

Good info, thanks. I have a feeling it will be very boring 8 days since cant do much right after surgery. How did your surgery go? Hope well

  9. Have you been using aloe vera gel to try and reduce the redness? The thought of going back to work like this after 3 weeks scares the hell outta me, specially coz I cant wear a cap... Guess no choice though, have to bite the bullet and tough through 4-5 weeks before hairs grow a bit long and redness reduces.

Thanks again for sharing pics and all the details, very helpful and keep it coming. Cheers

  10. Excellent post echoes and looking great so far, wish you speedy recovery.

I'm strongly considering asmed and your post is certainly very helpful in making final decision. Would you mind sharing a before picture of hairline from the front to compare the work? And did you trim the sides and back already to match top and front or is it just growing slowly? I'm planning to take 3 weeks off work and wondering how long before I get to push hair forward to cover the redness of transplanted area.

  11. Hi all,

Would you kindly share how was your HT result without taking any finasteride? Was it good enough or sub optimal? Did it result in huge shock loss or no? And did it recover in time? Any additional thoughts are much appreciated.

I have read enough threads on the debate of why and why not take finastride, completely understand the long term stabilizer arguement etc however here I just want to hear from people who got HT done (or know someone who did) without taking any finasteride and how would they rate their result. TIA!
