  1. Hey, So in my hairline, I have several short stubbles of hair that have neither grown nor shed since the transplant. They don't look great. 1)Are these dead transplant hairs that will never grow? 2)If I pull them out will it destroy the graft? thanks
  2. Hi everyone, So I'm 9 weeks post op, and my recipient has started to have this annoying (but mild) itching or maybe a kind of tickling sensation. I've been lightly scratching it a lot. Hair falls out when I do. The hair looks exactly like the shredded hair. No blood, no pain, nothing. I guess my scratching is just continuing the shedding process, right? Or am I doing some harm?
  3. Hi, I've just watched a Dr Bernstein video on youtube where he says that a tiny white bulb attached to shedding hair is the root sheath and is perfectly normal. He says this is no indication of the graft not being able to grow in the future. I wish I had taken pictures, but many of my shedded hairs do not have a bulb, but rather about a third of the hair is covered in a white skin tissue. The skin is not scab like and it is not irregular, rather it is like a white compact coating around the end of the hair and appears very thin (not really adding anything to the diameter of the hair). It is perfectly consistent with the shape of the hair. I hope my description is adequate enough for people to know what I mean! Has anybody else had these? Is it normal/ok? It just sounds kind of different to Dr Bernstein's description.
  4. Hi everyone, I'm approx 6 weeks post op, and many of the transplanted hairs have grown, and shedded. I haven't shedded them all yet. My concern though is that there are some transplanted hairs that don't appear to have grown, they remain stubble like at 1 or 2 millimetres in length. So they have not shed and have not grown. This appears strange compared to many of the transplanted hairs that have grown. I can count approximately 8 of these only in my hairline. They may be further back too but I can't detect any, maybe because only the stubble like hairs are in the hairline or because the ones further back aren't as noticeable. These short stubble like hairs have been here since the procedure; they are not recent developments. Could anyone tell me if this is normal? Is the fact that they haven't grown suggestive of the grafts being dead and that those individual hairs will not grow at all? Many thanks for your help.
  5. I'm no expert, but having had similar concerns to yourself, searching these forums incessantly and posting many questions myself, I think this is pretty normal. By day 12 the grafts are secure and it's very unlikely you could dislodge them. If you saw a stream of fresh blood run down your scalp when you removed the scabs, that's something to worry about. Failing this, it's just normal shedding.
  6. Hi Johnboy71, thanks for your reply. Yes he gave me post op instructions but it doesn't mention anything about whether the shedded hairs could be singles or multiples. My understanding is that multiples are joined in the root, so if a multiple has shed, and it is still joined at the bottom, it means a root and graft has shed?
  7. Is it rare for grafts to naturally and healthily shed containing more that one hair per graft? Or could a graft containing more than one hair imply the whole graft has fallen out?
  8. Hi thanks for your reply. I'm a month post op. There was no blood, but it does look strange doesn't it? Is it normal to shed a graft with four hairs coming from one root?
  9. Just thinking, they must be grafts, right? If the root wasn't attached, the hairs would fall out separately, but that there are 4 stuck together at the base shows the root is also included.
  10. Hey, Found these on my pillow this morning, one looks like a root with 4 hairs coming from it. Are these lost graphs or just normal shedding?
  11. It's shedding as it's the transplanted hairs that have fallen, prior to the transplant no hairs were there. These are hairs placed as part of the transplant. So, just with reference to transplanted hairs, if some shed before others, in a specific area, does this mean something? Why would hairs shed in the hairline before they shed elsewhere?
  12. Hi, thanks for your reply. No, this is just transplanted hair that's shed. I know most hair will shed but I find it at best odd and it worst really worrying that so far it only appears to have shed completely in the hairline. Why would it shed earlier in some parts of the scalp?
  13. Hi everybody, I'm a month post op and I have experienced shedding much more in the hairline rather than further back. Does anybody think this is a cause for concern or is it quite normal? Thanks
  14. So much positive energy coming from you Gillenator. You're a great forum member
  15. Thanks again That I passed out, I think was totally coincidental. Despite the message you may take from this thread I don't suffer from anxiety. Obviously I can't be certain, but without a medical opinion I'm pretty sure it was just coincidence, besides the blood lost was so minute.
  16. Thank you to everyone who has replied and given me support and advice. I really do appreciate it.
  17. Cheers Matt Can I just confirm then, what do you all think, if for arguments sake the hair was from my recipient, and shedded slightly early due to intense rubbing on my pillow, could this early/forced shedding cause damage to the underlying grafts? Like I said, the hairs had no blood or skin attached to them, they looked clean and had the familiar hook shape or slightly bent part at the end of the hair, just like the ones I find normally when showering.
  18. Dear all, Thanks to you all for your support and advice. You keep me going guys
  19. Hey man, thanks for your reply, I guess I'm more worried because I saw blood and lots of hair on my pillow!
  20. Hi, 23 days post op, I woke in the night to find my self quite vigorously rubbing my head against my pillow (not scratching as I'm putting my hands through my belt on my shorts while I sleep to prevent scratching). There were lots of grafts on my pillow as well as blood. The blood on the pillow was lower down than the grafts, and there wasn't any blood with the grafts. I rushed to the bathroom to check with a mirror and I could only find a little blood on my donor, none from my recipient. So it seems the rubbing against the pillow must've been pretty hard to make my donor bleed and in the process a lot of hair also came out from the recipient (but no blood). I was was checking this, something really freaky happened, I collapsed and blacked out for a few seconds. This didn't cause any bang or bleeding to my head. So I had a pretty bad night. I'm wondering if anyone could help me with a few concerns; 1) could the hard rubbing that caused the hairs to come out and the donor to bleed damage those hairs that came out? Are those grafts lost? Like I said, there was not blood with the hairs and it is just hair, no skin attached to them. I've tried taking a photo to capture the blood and the hair but the photo doesn't really show the extent of the hair loss, there are hundreds, although they all look like 'healthy ' shedded hair to me. It's just scary to see so many. 2) could the process of fainting somehow damage the remaining grafts? I'm kind of clueless but I guess fainting/collapsing is a rush of blood to the head and I've read blood rushing can damage the growth of grafts. Thanks for your help.
  21. I know there are countless other threads, as acknowledged in my original post. The point of this thread is to bring them all together and get an answer for all the different shapes rather than, as you say, having countless threads dependent upon the shape of the hair being shed. It would be good to have one resource where guys could come to and this thread could be the definitive shedding hair and worrying tread. Any other guys want to share their thoughts?

  23. Hi....so I've been doing a lot of searching in the forum and found lots of threads for guys concerned during the shedding phases due to the physical appearance of shedded hair. I myself am going through that phase now! Lots of different descriptions as to what the shedded hair looks like: Straight normal hair Hair with a kink; L shaped Hair with a small black bulb at the end Hair with a small white bulb at the end Straight hair but where a proportion of it is covered in skin (maybe half of it) The advice seems to be on this forum, don't worry so long as there is no bleeding. Grafts haven't been lost, just the hair, and it does indeed come out in all sorts of weird shapes. Can people confirm this interpretation is correct? Are there any specific shapes that are worrying? Is it as simple as: No blood=no worry ? Thanks guys
