  1. My doc has prescribed me Amitriptyline for depression and anxiety. So far I have taken only two tabs and I'm thinking of discontinuing it because of its side effect of hair loss.
  2. I'm planning to add Biotin in my hair loss regimen. Is it worth a try?
  3. I was bombarded all over with cake and foam spray at a birthday party and my hair and scalp was full of that stuff. Now after shampooing my hair texture feels hard and dryish!. what should I do?
  4. If i massage minoxidil, half of it gets onto my hair and makes it extremely dry and dull. So, what if i do not massage. would it still be equally beneficial if i only pour it over scalp with a dropper ?
  5. I have been on Fin since june 2013 and thinking about adding minoxidil. Is minoxidil worth a try? I have been massively shedding for the past few weeks and it's making me go nuts. Does excessive shedding always mean that baldness is progressing?
  6. there are two ways I can think of shampooing, one is two massage your scalp with finger-tips and the other is to simply rub your head with the palm of hands? how do you do it and what's a proper way of shampooing?
  7. What causes an oily scalp besides genetics?
  8. Sorry, I forgot to add that it's a topical gel("isotrex 0.05%" it comes in a tube container). if I use like 2 to 3 tubes in the duration of one month would it still be enough to impact my hair? PS I'm balding and have been on Fin since last June.
  9. I have been prescribed isotretinoin for my seborrheic dermatitis and I'm afraid that it might cause hair loss?
  10. if someone has eczema then can smoking trigger the eczema flare ups?
  11. I have been prescribed 0.5mg tab/day betamethasone for my seb. dermatitis and I want to know about its possible effect on the scalp hair!
  12. I took my last pill of Fin on Saturday and things are starting to improve and pain has also significantly reduced. Today I visited a hair transplant Doc and he said that in his 12 year of experience he has never seen a single patient reporting this side effect from Fin. I'm confused but I'll wait for a week to see how the things go!
  13. As our response to Fin is similar, I want to know a couple of more things. you have a successful hair transplant without using Fin. My understanding is that the transplant doesn't work without Fin(or any other DHT blocker) as hair loss is progressive and you need to be on a DHT blocker to halt further hair loss. Transplant is the primary reason i'm taking Fin so that by the time i'm 25 (21 now) I could have enough hair to have a decent hair transplant. I'm thinning in NW6 pattern. what are your thoughts on it? My hair on the sides and back also started thinning when MPB hit me at 15. It wasn't that bad before Fin but now it's all see through and most of my SD is on the sides (around the ears) and on the crown. It's like Fin improved hair on top and negatively impacted the hair on the sides or maybe these hair on the sides were going to thin with or without Fin. Do you think that Fin had any impact on the hair on your sides and back? Thanks
  14. My whole scalp isn't that oily it's just those areas affected by SD that feel waxy when touched. I've been through Fin shed and my hair are starting to improve and it's gonna be really depressing losing all these gains!. If my SD improves then I'll try with 0.25mg of fin. How long did it take for your SD to get better after quitting Fin?
  15. Yes, I think I had it before Fin without knowing and it was never painful and the flare would show up only once in several months and scales used to be whitish and small but now it flares up atleast twice a week and the scales are gigantic and oilier. it's painful to even run a comb through hair. How did you deal with it when u found that it's the Fin making your SD worse? Did your SD get better on DUT? There is no information on the internet about Fin making SD worse and the doctors also do not seem to know about it. I think you are the only person who can guide me to make better decisions. Yesterday I had my last pill of Fin and i'm gonna give it a break of 2 weeks to see the response. Thanks
  16. I didn't have seborrheic dermatitis before starting finasteride, it started to appear on the scalp and face after 4 months into fin, I'm afraid that fin might be the cause and i'm thinking of stopping fin and see if it gets better!. If it turns out to be Fin causing this then what are the chances that I would get the same side effect if I get on Dut?
  17. Thank you for the reply. one more thing, can smoking make seborrheic dermatitis worse?
  18. I've MPB and my sides and back are thinning too. I have got my blood checked and everything was okay except a little low vit D. what causes thinning on sides and back?
  19. I always have had this but it has gotten worse these days, I want to treat it. So, is there any effective treatment beside topical steroids?
  20. Can daily shampooing cause dandruff if you are already prone to dandruff!
  21. I am a green tea lover and there this thread saying it raises DHT, i'm afraid i'm doing wrong by drinking green tea.
  22. I have read that minoxidil after getting absorbed into skin goes into blood stream and generally works everywhere rather than the only area where it's applied. Is it true? I have used Minox for two months only stopping last Sunday due to the severe dandruff and irritation it was causing. I believe that this product was working and I can see small hair sprouting on scalp. I have thinning on the sides and back too and I was feeling the improvement all over the scalp and to the areas where I didn;t apply minox. I have tried many things to control dandruff but unfortunately it had become so painful that I had to stop minox. Now I'm afraid that I am probably gonna lose hair from the areas where I didn;t even apply minox. So is it true that when it works , it works all over?
  23. I didn't know about it and just googled "ingrown hair'. It says, these hair grow sideways into the skin and the skin appears reddish in those areas. I had these signs in the first week after I shaved. Does it mean that I have lost some hair?
  24. I shaved my head with a razor about a month ago. Yesterday, I went to hair transplant clinic for consultation and the doc told me that i've made a mistake by shaving my head with a razor as it halts the growth of miniaturizing hair because once shaved below the skin level they do not remain strong enough to penetrate out of the skin. (i'm on fin since june '13 and was hoping that some of my miniaturizing hair would get thick.) Do you think the doc is right?
  25. I rarely shave my head, this head shave was after about 7 years. I think that it has been gradually thinning for the past few years but this V pattern is a recent observation. I have some dandruff and I'm using Nizoral. This particular thinning in the safe zones starts from the temple points in a circular path and continues till the nape(both sides).
