Just bumping this thread again to ask if anyone has personal experiences with PRP.

It's been 10 weeks since my PRP treatment and I am still shedding. I'm anxious on whether the shedded hair will grow back.

So wondering if anybody reading this has had PRP done, experienced a noticable shed and if the hair grew back?

After taking a look at your before pics on the other thread, looks to me like most of the shedding happened to transplanted hair at mid-scalp. Since these follicles don't become miniaturized, you should be safe, my friend. When I got my HT done, I said no to PRP so I have no experience in this department. But from my research I don't think PRP has any permanent effect - neither good, nor bad.

Also, could I ask why you personally said no to PRP.

Retrospectively I would never agree to a treatment offering a temporary gain with the risk of a permanent loss.

Before starting the thread, I had a theory that because new transplanted hair takes 18 months to fully mature that the PRP treatment may have caused my new transplant hairs to shed, as they were only weeks old.

I did do a little research on PRP before I started this thread, and on another forum. I read a few accounts of people undergoing PRP treatment only to permanently lose their shedded hair. Obviously native hair, not transplanted hair.

Part of me is petrified I've permanently shed native hair, that is why I am so worried.

I'm not saying that you haven't lost hair, but just the lighting difference and the head tilt will make a difference in what you see.

I know shedding of hair is a natural everyday experience. Ordinarily when I wash my hair, I never, ever shed hair, I will never see hairs on my hand in the shower or after washing my hair in the sink. In the last eight weeks, the opposite has happened, my hands have hairs on them after washing my hair.

Even styling my hair with gel, my hair looks thinner and is more difficult to style.

And plus aswell, my hair should have improved from post 5 month op to post 7 month hair surgery, it has indisputably not. That does not make sense, unless I have experienced either shockloss or shedding.

There's no reason for this to be permanent since PRP won't have any permanent effect on the grafts as far as i know.

Thanks for your reply but I simply don't know if native or transplanted hair has shed. I do know the shed is significant and it has really worried me.

I had already native hair in the area before my transplant last December.

What I am wondering is, I've read that new transplant hairs take 18 months to fully mature, I'm wondering could the PRP injections send them into a resting phase, as they would have only been five months into maturity and hope they should return as they are donor hair.

But what happens if the PRP injections have sent native hair into shock, that might not return?

About seven months ago I recieved a hair transplant. I've documented it on a seperate thread on this site. I was very happy with the results I was seeing months in.

I have a FUT scar from a previous procedure many years ago and wanted this repaired. So five months later I returned to the clinic to have FUE put into my scar. Again happy with everything.

My surgeon gave me a complimentary PRP treatment for the top of my head, where I had my transplant work done. Within 10 days I began to shed. Two months later and I've had a noticeable shed. I feel the shedding is now subsiding.

I am very anxious about the shed though. I don't know whether it's shockloss from the PRP or shedding after from the PRP treatment like you initially get with minoxidil.

Would any experienced posters here be able to tell me if you think it will grow back or perhaps people who have had PRP done and experienced shedding could tell me if it will grow back.

I am really anxious and nervous.

Sorry to have to say this but there's been a few horror stories on here from that clinic if memory serves me right.

I had my main HT surgery done in Istanbul just under six months ago.

To address some of your points.

I flew home the following day after surgery. Afternoon time.

Returned back to the clinic the morning after surgery to have my hair washed and instructed how to do it for when I returned home. It really is easy, just follow the guidelines and instructions.

Also, I'm glad I returned home the next day, I still felt fine, as if I could undergo more surgery. But the follwing day back home, I felt groggy and pretty misersble, just under the weather, no regrets but just felt abit like crap. I remember thinking to myself, I'm glad I flew home from Istanbul the day after surgery rather than having the journey ahead of me on the second day post op.

With regards to paying via your bank. You can set up the clinics bank details on your online banking. There will be a trsnsfer fee from your bank and the clinics bank.

If you want to treat yourself by upgrading your hotel room, go for it if you'd like.

I got no frontal swelling at all. But always slept at an elevated angle on a travel pillow for the first ten days or so.

On the safety issue. I treated my visit as mainly non-touristy, so just essential travel to clinic/hotel trips and felt safe. Went out to one day for a few hours with my brother and felt safe. Also I get the Syria thing, but that's the border at the other end of Turkey. You're going to Istanbul, the european side of the country.

You can get your Turkish visa online. Cost about 20 dollars.

Most stuff is overpriced here, plus the lack of competition from other fue doctors doesn't help - it makes sense to travel abroad.

 

Did you pay a % deposit up front, then the rest in cash?

Definitely makes sense to consider travel as an option. For what I paid for, I received 3400 grafts, the same budget at Blackrock would have got me just 340 grafts.

I didn't pay a deposit. But needed to email my flight itinerary before my booking confirmed, and hotel accommodation arranged.

I paid in cash.

It's definitely a more tempting prospect than going to Blackrock for 10 quid a graft.

Blackrock charges are just ridiculously way too expensive. It's extortionate.

And the only results you get to see are a handful of celebrities.

Doing your research and being prepared to travel is the way to go.

How soon after contacting Yaman were you able to schedule the procedure - was there much of a waiting list/period?

Last November I was making my final decision on which clinic to choose. After deciding to have my surgery with Dr Resul Yaman and making contact with the clinic, I think mid November, I had my procedure done first week in December. There was a couple of appointments in November but they didn't suit me.

Wow! Keep the monthly updates coming. Dramatic transformation already! Congratulations!

I found from month four to month five the hair thickening and darkening.

Don't worry I won't rush into it.

 

Don't I need to have some hair on the top of my head to take finasteride? I don't have any hair on the top apart from a few follicles.

Finasteride for many should halt their hair loss. So your crown should not drop further while on it. Others might chime in here.. Again taking Finasteride is something you decide weighing up the pros and cons. You might get some regrowth too, again others might chime in to advice either way.

I haven't decided anything yet and not completely 100% sure if I will do it. I might go for a consultation at Vinci Hair just to see what they say and maybe pay a visit to Dr Nel, but he charges 200 euros for a consultation.

Consultations in Dublin are costly. Not sure if you're on Finasteride, but you'll get a years prescription at your consultation. Some people don't like asking their GP or some GP's are not fond prescribing it. Again that's also something to think about.

Anyhow, good luck with things. Just don't rush into anything.

I had a look at Dr Nel and he seems good. Dr Collins might be a bit too expensive, as my hair loss is quite severe I think.

 

Who is the doctors in turkey that did your transplant? Are you happy with the FUE procedure that you receive?

 

Also do you have to fly back and forth for check ups?

Just to point out, make sure you do lot's of research and then more, and even more.

There are doctors in Belgium doing cracking work, about 6 euro per graft. Lorenzo in Spain, similar price.

I decided I wanted to do only FUE. Also for peace of mind, decided I would opt for a Dr recommended on here. I'm 4.5 months post op and I am happy thus far with my progress.

I went with Dr Resul Yaman. The whole trip went smoothly. You don't fly back and forth for checkups, just follow all the instructions and take the medication given to you.

Initially I was very sceptical about Turkey but for the amount of grafts, it suited by budget.

Flew direct to Istanbul on a Thursday, , consultation on the Friday, surgery on the Saturday, and flew home Sunday. Again, went smoothly.

But do lot's of research before chosing a surgeon and think long and hard if it is what you really want to do. And do some in person consultations first. I did five.

Dr Collins did Louis Walsh, Marty Whelan (Irish presenter) the actor James Nesbitt's transplants. Most of the celebrities here get their surgery at the Blackrock clinic (Dr Collins)

I did have a consultation with him a few years ago, very thorough but charges 10 euro per graft.

Dr Nel, as far as I recall was considered here for recommendation but is not yet. I've seen a couple of people showcase their surgery on here. He charges 5 euro per graft. I also had a consultation with him, he is thorough too.

I'm in Dublin and had surgery before Christmas, went with a recommended Dr on this site.

In Turkey, one euro per graft. But he only does FUE.

It might be recommended that you do a combination of FUE/FUT, so do some in person consultations. Dublin is only down the road from Belfast. You could consider getting a couple of consultations here, you're not obliged to elect to have your surgery here..

If not, Dr Collins is in Dublin, he costs an arm and a leg.

Reddy is in England, slightly less expensive.

Or even Dr Nel in Dublin, he is about 5 euro per graft.

So what is the general consensus on how many months post surgery you can freely go out and play outdoor sport, go for long walks etc without worrying about sun exposure?

I'm 4.5 months post surgery, the weather here is beginning to pick up, heading into summer time, is sun block a must at all times or a hat more preferable?

People say it could be 18 months before you see your final HT result, so in that time could the sun theoretically affect your HT?

Are you taking any propecia or applying minoxidil? looks good for 4 months.

I've been on both Propecia and minoxidil for years and continued to do so since my surgery.

However I did add biotin and MSM to my regime post procedure to try enhance the pace of hair growth.

Below are photos from my four month update. Taken just a couple days after the four month mark.

I feel like and am happy that the outlier of a hairline is developing(well better than my pre-op hairline) and with just four months in, hopefully this can only get better.

Also I feel the hairline is growing faster than the mid part but in saying that, when I run my hands through my scalp it's like as if I feel new hair all around mid region, but not necessarily see all of it. If that makes sense.

To sum up, I'm happy with my progress thus far. Three photos were taking in front of a window with daylight coming in, one photo of me standing against a bedroom wall, further back but in the same room and light.

Could anyone else chime in? Is there no restrictions on FUE donor harvesting in lets say, two seperate times in a period of six months?
