  1. I'm almost 59 years old and had an HT Feb 19. I had 3036 grafts to my crown and I see all the same small/tiny colourless/light gray hairs (1000s of them) + some black stubbly short hairs that never fell out since being implanted. I have been seeing them for around a month and they have been growing at a snails pace + I am constantly seeing pimples come and go. The doc that harvested my strip said that I would see growth at around 5 months and I'm guessing that would depend on the genetics of the person.

  2. Evil-I understand about wanting to wait 6 months to post pics. Can you tell me the size in sq cm of the area covered, overall strategy and doc? I am having mine done in August so I am curious.

I don't know the exact size but I just measured it and it seems like around 120 sq cm. My overall strategy is to save money and even if it takes me another 2 years I will have another HT to address my hairline and midsection. I had a hair transplant around 8/9 years ago to those areas (front & mid) of 1600 grafts by the chain MHR, similar to Bosley before I knew better.

So I'm planning on another 3000 grafts and if I think it needs it I will be using around 500 of those grafts for my crown again and the rest of 2500 for the front So that will be a final total of around 4000 for the hairline and midsection.

The clinic that did this recent transplant to my crown 3 months ago was the Colorado Hair Institute and the Dr that harvested the 3036 grafts was Dr Searle and the techs led by Kathryn did the incisions and placements. I plan on going back to them because they were very professional and it seems from what I can see in the mirror that I am on target for lots of growth in the next 3 months.

  3. Evil - Can you share some pics of your crown procedure?

Hey 'Can't decide' I'm going to wait until I'm at 6 months before I share before/after photo's. I'm at 3 months now and even though I see 1000s of little hairs growing in a magnifying mirror, to the casual observer I look just the same as I did pre op, but based on what I see I'm really excited :)

  4. I agree Torip. Of course it depends on age and each patient's loss pattern, but I think some guys make the mistake of just worrying about the front and ignore the crown. Where I would rather have a high forehead with more concentration on middle/crown. Sure most people face people head-on and so the front has always been important, but that bald crown to me really looks worse than a high forehead. I call my preference the Sting look. Personally at my age I'd rather have this Sting look with a solid crown, than a lower forehead and bald crown.

That's why I had 3036 grafts into my crown 3 months ago, even if I had a great hairline but no hair in my crown, I'd still consider myself to be bald.

  5. It'll be interesting to follow your progress. I'm originally from the UK myself (born in Lambeth, grew up in Islington, then moved to kent) anyway I was at CHI for 3036 grafts back in Feb 19 and I had the same experience as you, they are professional and personable.

I had my grafts placed by 4 different techs (2 at a time) but mostly by Kathryn? I think that was her name, as well as Gray and Steve at some point, but like you I was kinda in and out of sleep.

I can feel lot's of stubble at the moment but to the casual observer there isn't much to notice that's different to where I was 3 months ago, but I am really excited because when I look in a magnifying mirror I can see thousands of little hairs popping through and some hairs that have even grown an inch!

Anyway have lots of patience and don't expect much in the way of results for at least 5 months, that's what Dr Searle told me, good luck and periodically keep us updated :)

  6. Call Chris and ask him what he thinks, I was there for 3000 grafts 2 months ago also into my crown and he is a very approachable guy, I'm sure he'll let you know what's going on.

The other thing is maybe you should post a pre op photo so the regulars here can give you a better opinion?....looking at your photos I'd say you've had very very minimal growth, maybe you should get off the meds and see what happens at around 9 months, you may just be a slow grower.

  7. Hi amnmttl, if you have a before picture it would help as a reference, do you know what I mean? also I'm guessing your surgery was limited to the frontal 1/4 or 1/3? and as mentioned by hairs hoping it's only 3 1/2 months so it seems you're right on target as far as growth is concerned.

Was there a reason you did 2300 grafts and not a higher amount?, anyway it looks good so far but you really do have to wait until around 6/7 months, I'm sure you'll be very happy by the end of spring :)

  8. Has anyone experienced the appearance of big red pimples with no pus on transplanted area?? is it normal?? and yes i should mention that im three months post op!

I'm only one month PO and I have the exact same thing happening. I heard pimples are new hairs trying to poke through, maybe someone more experienced can tell you what's going on.
