Hello Everybody,
This is a special case that Dr. Maras and HDC’s medical team had to deal with, of a patient with poor donor area in terms of both density and naturally low number of hair per follicular unit. When the patient consulted us was wondering if possible to go ahead with FUE hair transplant as his expectation was a complete solution to his hair loss.
The plan was to proceed with two FUE sessions extracting maximum number of grafts possible at each time. I am presenting the completion of his first procedure and photos of immediately post op the second.
1st Procedure: 3250 grafts
2nd Procedure: 2400 grafts
No medication is been used

Hello Everybody,
The next patient case is very important for me as is my own hair transplant. I have started my own hair transplant journey almost 2.5 years ago and should be completed by next year with some work that is required on my crown.
I believe that as a patient coordinator it was very important to go through an HT as now I can advise or answer concerns that the patient may have from experience. From initial hair loss stages to the procedure and of course the days and months post op to the final result can create big psychological battles and emotions to the patient that requires honest advise and support.
I had my first procedure beginning of July 2010 with 2149 FUE grafts and my second at the beginning of November 2011 with 1000 FUE grafts. I was not taking finasteride or using minoxidil prior or post op of my procedures.
The procedures were performed by HDC’s medical team and Dr. Maras.

Alex

Hi All,
We have prepared a you tube video presenting this result with more photos than the ones included in my post. You can see it on this link

while the use of Toppik or other enhancing topicals are strictly forbidden in recommended clinics or clinics under consideration to be recommended, you would be kidding yourself to think that even the most renowned clincs do not use photo trickery. in that the select the angles that make the hair appear denser, or the lighting(not flash) compliments the hair rather than detracts from the result or they comb the hair down or to the side to hide a weak area etc.
Hi Mickey85,
You are absolutely correct about your comment but I want to make it clear that we have never presented here or elsewhere a patient result with any kind of concealers.
I also want to stress out that we always present and support our presentation of results with post op photos immediately after placing so that everybody can see the quality of the work. By this way the result can be assessed better as you know exactly where and with what amount of density the grafts were placed.

I dont want to talk out of turn here or offend the clinic in anyway, as they post some good results but i have to say, just my opinion, is that sometimes the photos that the clinic put here and on other forums, dont quite sit right with me. To me, in my unqualified opinion the only diffrence looks to me is that the guy has his hair brushed forward, but i could be wrong.
Hi Yiddo,
The patient had his hair combed forward before and after his hair transplant. I must point out that the patient is very happy with his result and opinions can vary from person to person.
I also want to point out that the patient had 2 strip surgeries at the past with scar tissue left at the recipient area which makes the growth rate not as successful as at virgin scalps therefore this result should be looked at as a repair surgery and be judged with that angle.

So the after photo is showing the result plus Propecia. You stated that he ceased using Propecia six months after the procedure. The time stamp on the photos show a six month difference. What does the patient's hair look like combed before the procedure? Thank you for sharing.
Hi Jotronic,
Apologies for delaying my reply for two days but Monday was a public holiday in Cyprus and I was on annual leave yesterday. As I has spoken to the patient today he told me that he had his hair combed brushed forward prior to his hair transplant as the before photos at the first page of this post.
As far as propecia is concerned we have already stated that after Bill’s comment that the patient was using it for the first six months. It is a possibility that propecia had helped to the final result however as you may well know there is a possibility that it did not.
The patient is returning in a few months for another procedure so I will be able to update everybody with his result photos and without the use of propecia.

Alex,
Nicely done. Thank you for sharing.
Also, quick question: what size punch did you use to extract the beard grafts?
The punch size used for the beard extraction was 0.7mm

It is mentioned that the patient had SMP done to the scar. Perhaps the remainder of the scalp was addressed as well?
Dear Hairthere,
The patient had SMP on the front and top of his scalp prior to visiting HDC hair transplant clinic. If you take a close look on the photo below you can see the bluish color on the scalp between his existing hairs. He only repeated SMP onto the scar after the procedure.
One of the initial patient’s goals was in fact to cover that SMP look at the front with the hair transplant.

Alex,
I agree that the result looks terrific. But in the before picture, the patient's hair looks incredibly thin all over the scalp, including in the mid scalp and occipital areas that weren't touched by surgery. In the after pictures, even the mid scalp and occipital areas look pretty full. Perhaps this is due to the lighting difference and the fact that the before pictures shows the hair uncombed? Is the patient also on Propecia and/or Rogaine which may have also aided in the appearance of thickness to non-transplanted areas?
Thanks for posting.
Bill
Dear Bill,
I can confirm that the patient was on finasteride for the first six months but then he stopped as he did not want to take them anymore. I am posting below one more comparison photo to show more clearly the patients result from the top.

Hello Everybody,
The following case was performed almost 12 months ago by Dr Maras and was supported by HDC hair restoration clinic medical team.
The following case it is a repair surgery were the patient had already undergone 2 STRIP surgeries without achieving his goals. On top of that he is left with 2 bad Strip scars that limit his donor capabilities.
The objective was to harvest as many grafts as possible from the scalp without damaging the donor further and then maximize the number with some chest and beard hair follicles. The goal was to strengthen the frontal third and crown.
Finally 2590 grafts were extracted as follows:
1st Day 800 scalp grafts
2nd Day 1390 scalp grafts
3rd Day 350 chest hair and 50 beard hair
As a test growth 50 scalp FUE were placed on one scar and 50 chest hair on the other. In the meantime the patient proceeded with SMP to disguise the remaining donor scars
The progress photos are on the 7th month mark.

The post op pix look good...but...to be honest with you, the pictures are at quite a substantial distance compared to the pre-op pictures, they should have been taken a lot closer, it would make it a better/more accurate comparison (IMO).
Dear Evil,
Thanks for your comments. Below are two more photos of this case that were taken closer.

Hello everybody,
The following case was performed almost 11 months ago by Dr Maras which was supported by HDC hair restoration clinic medical team.
The patient had Strip surgery elsewhere in the past and his goal was to add density to the front and top.His intentions are to procceed in the near future with another FUE procedure to restore his crown as well
The procedure was completed in two consecutive days where 1247 grafts were extracted and placed the first day and 1209 the second.
Below i present photos before, immediately after, one month after and the result at the 6th month mark. I am trying to get the patient to visit the clinic for an update of his transformation.

Hi Bill,
The patient started using HDC drops that contain 2% minoxidil one month after surgery ad he is still using it until today. He is not on Finasteride as he does not like to take pills.
All the photos were taken with Flash but with different camera, as the before photos were taken in our main clinic and the after photos in another town that we have a treatment center with a different camera and different natural lighting.
It is true that the angles are not exactly identical but this result is so full that whatever angle you use it will still be full.
I will try to get the patient in, to take photos from more angles and present them.
Regarding how hair is combed, I want to say that this is how the patient came back for evaluation without us touching his hair. We just took some pics to have his full result.

Hi Everyone,
I want to disclose that I have been informed by the patient that he has started Propecia and Minoxidil, two months after surgery.
I have some selected some more photos to present for this patient.
I can confirm with certainty that according to the patient none of the posted photos has any concealer.
However, the patient has been updating his case from day one in another forum with maybe more than 100 photos. I can give you the link if it is allowed to go in and read all the 15 pages posted directly by the patient. This specific case is one of the most documented ones directly by the patient. So it holds no doubts whatsoever about the result.
We also have prepared a tube video that you can see on this link.

Lol, Jotronic...... I think a lot of pics on here are a little suspicious and use some kinda of conselor. I wish people would be honest if they do use a conselor and tell what kind they used in the pic.
Hi BrianR and Jotronic,
I can assure you that the patient has not used any consealer to take this photos however i can ask the patient as he is posting in a different forum his case to step in and clear any suspicions.

Bill, I agree with you, what a great hairline restoration. Dr. Maras is the best surgeon among all 4 surgeons in HDC. He is actually the HDC Medical director as well. The other surgeons are Voskos, Gkaragkounis and Constantinides. Thats why results aren't always consistent in HDC because of different surgeons performing operations. But when it comes to Dr. Maras, his results always thrill me. I think he would be so popular if he opened his own clinic one day.
Thank you Hariri for your post.
This gives me the opportunity to give the latest and correct information about HDC because the information given is not very accurate.
To start with we have only 3 doctors in HDC at this moment, Dr Constantinides is no longer in our team.
Dr Gkarangkounis was working in HDC before Dr Maras and he is one the doctor that trained Dr Maras for doing Strip surgery.
Dr Voskos is still under training from Maras in FUE surgery and Gkarangkounis in Strip surgery so we only have 2 doctors responsible for performing surgery to patients.
HDC undertakes the responsibility if a surgery is not coming up with the expected result, so it always makes sure that whichever doctor will be responsible for the surgery, it is done with the same care and the same technique.
Anyway, always the new doctors learn from the previous ones, and the team of technicians is always the same, irrespective of who is the doctor. The techniques use are homogeneous for every doctor in HDC and this is why the results are always consistent.
Please let us know what makes you feel that the results by HDC may not be consistent.
Thank you ones again for giving me the opportunity to disclose the above information.
