  1. Thanks for your reply. Here's another pic to judge my hair. My hair is dry, though I have product in - I tend to always wear product because of the texture of my hair, it's sticks out as it's straight, so I need to wear something to flatten it. This is just after getting up this morning, so I've not wash my hair or anything. http://i40.tinypic.com/2wgu2ok.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/1zlu546.jpg (webcam) oh, and here's a pic from 2 years ago. it's cached so not a great quality photo, but it's all I have. It's when I started to worry about my crown and top of my hair. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7565/attachmentxb.jpg
  2. Hey been a while since I posted, but a bit bothered by something. Just had my hair cut, got it cut a lot shorter than usual - not intentionally but whatever. So, decided to get home and have a check at the part that bothers me. I got this: http://oi41.tinypic.com/evbbj7.jpg Went to a derm last year, who said my hair was fine with no hair loss, prescribed me Ketopine (I think) for my scalp as it's inflamed and scabby. My hair, and scalp hasn't changed from last year I don't think - I just think it looks worse since my hair is short. I don't know. My hair doesn't look like this when I use mirrors. My hair is damp in those pics, some with flash, some without, but what do you think? In comparison to my dry - albeit lesser quality pics, as I used a webcam: http://oi40.tinypic.com/a0kot3.jpg I don't know it looks like that as my hair is straight and blonde. But either way, I don't like it and dunno if it's a problem or just 'the way my hair is'. My hairline is a V shape, and I'm not a fan of it but there's no thinning. Family members say it's the same - I don't know if they're just saying that, but either way, V shape with no thinning is mature. I'm just worried about overall diffuse thinning. I took a couple pics a week or two ago of the bath after I'd had one. These are the hairs in the bath. I've had to higher up the contrast so you can see them. http://i39.tinypic.com/14mc3z4.jpg So yeah. Replies would be great cos I'm confused at the moment. And I hate this hair cut.
  3. Whoaaaaaa. They're from 2011. And using a name I don't associate myself with any more. Wow. Didn't realise I'd been on here that long. Anyway, there's newer pictures since then: hair Photos by jonnykino | Photobucket http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/hairiirrr.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/hairrrr2.jpg And nope, am not on any meds at all. Don't want to be on them unless I need to be. But anyway; For Future_HT_Doc: She commented on my hair just after I'd woken up, so, this morning I took some pics to show you where she said I was 'losing it at the back of my head'. I told her it was the way I'd been lying - it always happens - but she wouldn't have it. http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3709.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3708.jpg And then here's my hairline. All the pics there are variations of flash and no flash. And am wearing a pink hair band. It's not mine, I found it in the bathroom, ha. http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3707.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3705.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3695.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3699.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3692.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3697.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/hair%20december%202012/DSCF3691.jpg The thing is, my hairline hasn't changed in 4 (2008) years. I even have a pic to show the shape - as best as possible, I didn't take pics of my hairline then; http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/me2.jpg Yeah, she's 20, as are her mates. I'm 22. She apologised afterwards when I told her it bothered me, and she said it was just a joke, but even still, she randomly picked up on it and that's what bothers me. I don't really want go down the whole insulting her to be honest. She thought it was just a joke - I didn't. Anyway, there's some pics, I don't think/hope there's still no change with my hair from the 2008 but yeah. There's the pics as requested. Thanks for all you replies as well, I do appreciated it.
  4. Okay, I can post recent pictures, will need to take them though. I didn't think I'd need to since I've posted loads in previous threads and I don't think there is any change, but I will once I have new ones.
  5. Not gonna post pics unless asked, cuz I've posted enough. Anyway, today my girlfriend said I have a receding hairline, and also said am losing it on the side. I told her am not as there's no thinning. She then said it to her friend who agreed with her. I told her again that I'm not, and even resorted to showing her the Norwood scale. She accepted that, but later on with some mates, she mentioned it to them and they all started analysing my hairline and said I was. A guy who was out, who is receding said I was as well, and now am absolutely paranoid that my hairline is receding. What can I do to make them realise am not?? Pics I've posted, you all say am not, but now am worried again.
  6. Hey all. Sorry for the long response, been bogged down with work. So yeah, apparently she said it because, when am under bright lights and my hair is wet, you can see scalp on top, and because my scalp is red. I mean, I've noticed it too when I get out the shower in specific lighting conditions, but I figured it was normal. Now I've been told that, I keep thinking diffuse thinning, but am not sure whether the fact you can see scalp when hair is wet under certain lights means it's that? Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate it a lot.
  7. Hey there. Haven't posted in a while, haven't needed to because I've been pretty happy with my hair. Accepted the fact I have a mature hairline - no thinning, just a more concave, 'V' shaped hairline. That's cool, I'm 22. I've also posted about my crown, and was told I shouldn't worry, that that's fine also. I just have a parting, light hair, and a red scalp. No thinning or loss. Fine with me. I've been to doctors, derms, you name it, and they've said my hair is fine. So anyway, my hair has gotten fairly longer than I usually wear it, and I was speaking to some friends about whether I should just leave it to grow long... not hippy style, just longer than usual. They said I needed it cut, because the sides are thick and my fringe is quite long. Then my friends girlfriend said "get it cut because you're going a bit 'baldy'. Well that's MESSED ME UP GOOD STYLE, and I've started the whole taking pictures of my hair again. SO! As I said, I feel my hairline is fine: So that's not the reason my mates girlfriend said it to me.... but she wouldn't have seen my crown, as I'm taller than her. But that doesn't look 'baldy', does it? HMMMM. It's bugging me, because after all my time posting on forums and going to docs, derms etc, and it's been established there isn't a problem with my hair, this girl says this to me. What do you guy's reckon? Muchas gracias.
  8. Sorry for the bump and double post, didn't really want to start a new topic, but I still have questions and don't really know who or where to ask. Sorry if am bugging anyone. Anyway, my hair is naturally straight. A few times when applying wax - well, putty to be technical - I've seen one or two thing, wavy hairs. Does miniaturisation change hair texture, or these hairs I see something different?
  9. I thought as much. This doesn't explain why am seeing short, thick dark brown hairs, then. Thanks.
  10. @TommyLucchese Here's a picture, the only picture I have that shows off my hairline as best as possible. This is from when I went abroad in 2008, so I was 18 when the picture was taken. @savehair I've noticed white hairs, but they're wavy and almost synthetic looking. My girlfriend looked at one and said it looked more like something synthetic, or even dog hair.. I have a shih-tzu. I dunno whether they could just be from lying on my pillow or something, *shrug*. Everyone says my hair looks, and feels the same density all over, but then there's me noticing stuff, like these hairs, and the shape of my hairline.
  11. Yeah. The thing is, I don't know, because I don't know what am looking for. You apparently lose 100-150 hairs a day to make way for new hair growth, right? If that's the case, I'm in that range, but then I see hairs that are darker than my own hair but short and very thick. Then I see some that appear thinner, but I can't tell because my hair is blonde. I also see then coming from the back of my hair and sides. Doesn't make sense. I've been 'monitoring' my hair for nearly two years now, and there's been NO change whatsoever. I'm not even just saying that because am in denial, either. There's cached images around the net of my hair, because I deleted my old PhotoBucket account, but my hair is the same. I've even posted pics of my hair from when I was 18 which shows my hairline as being the same shape as it is now. Close ups that I've posted on this forum as well, showing off macro's of my hairline prove that my hair is fine. My on top/around the crown where I have a parting also show no change. I just have an inflamed scalp. I just see these hairs on my hands of different shapes/sizes/colours. Don't get it.
  12. Hey, Thanks for your replies, but I was wondering whether I could get some info on miniaturisation as well, if possible? I know I've posted countless pictures, and my hair hasn't changed from those pictures, but I still can't work out the difference between miniaturisation , and then new hair growth/normal shedding. I look at my hairline, I see vellus looking hair just in front of my hairline, but don't know whether that's 'just supposed to be there'. You can probably see them on my older pics, but am confused about them. Am also confused about the hairs on my hand in the shower/when I apply wax, because they appear to be different sizes and thickness, but they can also come from the back and sides of my hair also. Don't really understand the process, so info would be great! Thanks.
  13. I'm a little confused on how miniaturisation works. I have straight blonde hair, that is non-balding. I hope. Typical to blonde hair, my hair is fine, but there is a lot of it so it appears to be thick. I get the impression that my hairline is around the Norwood 1.5 area, as there is no thinning, but it angles slightly into a slight 'V' shape. I'm 22 years old. I have an irritated scalp, and my GP has prescribed me a few different medications to attempt to remedy the scalp issue. I've been given Cocois scalp ointment, generic Nizoral; ketopine, and I myself have tried Polytar. As of yet, nothing has worked, and I find myself scratching my head and finding scab-like flakes towards the crown and back of my head. Since I'm scratching a lot, I see hairs falling. I also see hairs on my hands when shampooing, and when applying hair product. I see maybe 5-10 when showering, 5-10 when applying product, and maybe 4-6 when I scratch my head, though this isn't each time. It might be the first time I scratch, but afterwards throughout the day it might only be a couple. I know you can lose up to 150 hairs a day, but am wondering whether this seems like an excessive amount? Anyway, onto my miniaturisation question. Recently, I've started examining the hairs I find and seeing if any appear thinner than normal. Occasionally I find white, wavy hair strands that are very thin, but I don't know whether these are synthetic, or even dog hairs (from my Shih-Tzu) as my hair isn't wavy at all. I also can find short, thick dark hairs, which again don't fit into my hair texture/colour. Do these sound like miniaturising hairs? My hair doesn't appear to be thinning or anything, but these hairs I am seeing are making me concerned. Again. Sorry for such a long question. I posted this on BaldingBlog as well, which is why it probably sounds so formal. I webcam-med some pics of my hair, these are from about two weeks ago. Not really looking for a 'review' of the pics... just an update I guess. My scalp has been a lot itchier recently, and feels like it's burning sometimes. I do not like the look of my hairline though, I feel it's shape is too much of a 'V', but I think I'm looking for perfection i.e. a juvenile hairline. http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/hairiirrr.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa326/jonnykino/june%202012/hairrrr2.jpg Thanks.
  14. haha! please don't punch any babies. At the moment, when I'm out and about, I don't worry about my hair. When am home and am able to see it, such as in bathroom lights etc, and I see some scalp, it sparks off the worry. I mean, if I had a consistent "yes you could have MPB" or "no, you don't need to worry about MPB/you have no thinning/loss" etc. then I suppose that would be better instead of getting a mix of replies. At least I'd know whether to look into getting treatment or not.
  15. Bah. When I posted the first album, I also sent it off to BaldingBlog for their opinion, and I got this. Only just noticed it. I’m Concerned About How My Hair Parts - Balding Blog According to whoever wrote that, I style my hair to cover the 'suggestion of thinning', whatever that means. I just brush my hair over, I don't do anything intentional. And I also have 'possible' hair loss in the first picture, according to him. I'm getting sick of this, it just eats into my life. I've been the doctors to try and get a referral to the dermatologist, but my GP says there's nothing wrong with my hair. Anyway, yeah. Getting a bit annoyed now. Dunno what to believe. I appreciate you guy's putting up with me and replying to me, it is helpful. Thanks
  16. Hey, thanks for the reply. I do appreciate it. Right, I'll try not to worry! It's pretty hard though, especially when I get conflicting replies (from other forums) telling me different things, especially regarding the crown area! But I'll try!
  17. Sorry for the long response. I was debating on whether I should post any more pictures, cuz I go through phases of being like "I'm stupid, my hair is fine", but then it flares up again. Anyway, I've got a fair few photos of outside shots of my hair, as well as some indoor shots. Pictures of the parting, pictures of the hairline. I dunno what to look for when looking for miniturisation, so I've included some macro shots of my hairline, as well as a couple of shots with a ruler measuring the space between my highest forehead line and my hairline. Again, I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but am wondering where I stand Norwood wise on my hairline. So yeah... feel free to take a look. Hair 2 pictures by jonnykino - Photobucket So natural light gives the best representation of my hair? THANKS.
  18. Hello! Still confused, but I've updated my album with some more pics.... sorry Couple of questions; What's the best way to check yourself for thinning or whatever? Harsh or natural light? Flash or no flash? Video camera or camera? Dry or wet? Anyway, I wet my hair and ruffled my hair, and saw this. Not sure what to think. My hair is well and truly sticking up. I don't wear my hair like that. I only did it like this for the pics because after my shower near my light I could see some scalp. But yeah, the album has been updated, feel free to take and look and tell me what you think. ALSO! Does the online consultation work? I tried to send some pics and once the pics had been uploaded I got an error. Thanks.
  19. Ehhh. I get so many mixed responses from different forums I don't know what to believe, and I just get more confused by it all. I don't wear my hair like this, but if I comb my hair along the 'parting', then it looks like this. And it looks like it follows on from my crown; But combed completely straight, you can't see the parting, except this little... thinner part. I'm guessing it's due to the parting, but I dunno. So yeah. I dunno what it is, and what to believe. One place tells me it's just a natural parting, then the next place tells me to keep an eye on it, and the next place tells me to start taking propecia asap.
  20. So it IS just a parting and I shouldn't be worried? Mum swears I've had it all my life, but... yeah. Lol. Cuz I posted this pic on another forum, and this guy told me to get on fin, minoxidil and nizoral right away. If it's just a parting then I don't need to stat using any of that stuff, right? I don't wanna start taking anything if I've got no problems. I mean, I'm gonna start using nizoral just for my scalp, try and settle the down the dermatitis.
  21. There was a part near the top of my hair, coming from my crown I've always been concerned about. I say always... well I mean since I've been worrying about hair loss. This little line that showed more scalp in certain lights was described as a natural parting. That sounded cool with me, until I started examining my hair again. I took a pic with my hair spiked up and I saw this mess. .... can that really be a parting? When my hair is wet, there's no signs of this strip thing that I'm seeing. What is it? Is my concern here legitimate... or am I being irrational AGAIN? There's an album with more pics, so feel free to look. I'm wearing a pink hair band in a couple of shots. Don't judge me. It's all there was in the bathroom. hair pictures by jonnykino - Photobucket Sorry for posting again after my last post, but I'm not sure what's going on here. Thanks. Hope you all had a good Christmas.
  22. Just a quick message to you all since I didn't reply last time I was on, and after reading Spex's last message. I felt a bit rude not doing so. It's still an on going fear I have, and I do check a lot, but I've now started seeing a psychiatrist type woman to hopefully help with my obsessions. She knows I have a fear of losing my hair. Also, during the last time I was on here, I posted pics of my hair to Balding Blog and asked one of the docs who make posts to check them out. Checked it the other week, and low and behold, there were two pics of my hair on the forum, as well as a message from one of the doc's. He also said my hairline is fine, and I'm probably seeing something different than what everyone else see's since I'm over-analysing it. Either way, hopefully now I was can stop worrying so much! So yeah, cheers for the replies everyone - especially Spex... you've dealt with me before (on The Bald Truth) so you're probably a bit sick of seeing pics of my hair, lol, but yeah, cheers for the help and advice mate, I appreciate it!
  23. SORRY FOR ANOTHER BIG ASS POST Thanks for the reply . That's another thing that bugs me, barbers and the like HATE cutting my hair, because they always say my hair is very thick, so I've always presumed my hair was thick, even though it's blonde. Whatever, though. I think because I'm still not fully sure how a receding hairline works (even though mattj on baldtruthtalk.com explained it to me), and I don't really know what to check for, I analyse my hair and see the worst. Like, I have a slight widow's peak. According to my parents I've always had it, but if this is the case, I've never noticed it until I started looking at my hairline this year. And because of this widow's peak, my hair seems to take the shape of a slight 'V', because the sides angle up slightly and the very front is slightly further down my forehead than the sides, which I always presumed was the shape of a receding hairline. I just don't understand what a receding hairline is. I know what a receded one is, I just don't know what the beginnings of one looks like. I don't really fully understand what a maturing/mature hairline is either.. I mean, as far as I can tell, the shape of my hairline... at least the temples, are the same as those pics I posted from back in 2008... which is a good sign, right? But then again... I hear all this talk about miniaturising hairs and I get more confused. I was reading about 'mature hairlines' on another forum, and some guy had a close up of his hair. His had finer, shorter hairs at the edge of his hairline and claimed that it was due to a bad hair cut. He was told that these were miniaturised hairs. His hair was dark and it was easy to tell if the hairs were shorter or thinner... but my hair is naturally blonde, and as such, single hairs can be hard to see, unless I'm in the right light. I've checked my hairline up close, and as far as I can tell the hairs are all longer, and appear to be the same thickness as the other hairs on my head. I have a couple of smaller ones up near the 'peak' on my widows peak... but I dunno if that means anything. http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb353/zingxao/Hair%202011/hair.jpg There's a few pics of my hairline (even though you've all already seen it... so I dunno what my intention is having those pics, but, there's also a couple of other ones of the hairs at the very front of my hairline. Do they look miniaturised, or normal in comparison to my other hairs? The thing is, because I only started being worried about my hair when I was 20, and it doesn't seem to have changed all that much since, I don't know whether anything has changed. I mean, my hair FEELS the same. I don't remember having rounded, juvenile temples, but then I never took notice. Same with my crown, I remember being told by my best friend at the time that my crown was quite 'large'... but I was about 15 or so, then. And I don't think it's changed. My scalp is very red because I have, I think, seborrheic dermatitis, and my scalp is scabby/flaky... but I remember it being like that even in primary school. I had little scabs at the back of my head and never thought anything of it. My scalp would also get very itchy, much like it does now, and I remember that happening in high school. Lol, the picture were my hair is shaved.... that was a complete accident. I doubt I'd ever do it again. Mainly because I have a small head/face, and look young for my age, and I just didn't suit it. Another basis for my worrying is the fact I have low confidence, and if I were to lose my hair, I dunno how well my confidence would recover from it, you know? As well as that, I feel it would knock my chances with girls. Regarding my family history, my dad has a receded hairline, it started when he was in his mid 40's, but wasn't really noticeable till he was in his 50's. He's 60 now, but to be fair, his hair isn't too bad. I'd probably put him around Norwood 3A/4A. He's got a 'tuft' left for his forelock. Crown is intact. His hair is completely different to mine though. He has/had dark brown curly hair. The other males in my family, my uncle (through marriage) is a Norwood 5. Two of his sons have some hair loss, one being a, I'm guessing a diffuse thinner, since he has a hairline, albeit with a whispy fringe/bangs, and coverage. It's just thin up top. He's 30. The other is about a Norwood 3 Vertex. He's 39. They both have dark hair. My uncles other two sons have full heads of hair. One being 37 with dark hair, the other being 23 with dark blonde curly hair. My other cousins from different parts of the family have full heads of hair, although one, aged 40 shaves his... always has, so it's hard to determine.. but as far as I can tell he has a full head. My mum's dad died aged 79 with a Norwood.... I'd say 4. Bit of a bald spot, thin up front, but enough to grow it longer and have it over to the side. He still had a full head in, at least his 40's. I dunno when he started losing his hair. My dad's dad, I don't really know. He died in his 40's, but according to my dad, he lost his hair quite early, but I don't know how early and to what Norwood. His hair was dark, also. My great uncle is aged 89, and when he was younger he had blonde curly hair, but lost his hair in his late 20's. According to both him and my mum it was due to the fact he saw horrible stuff in the war which contributed to it falling out. He's now a Norwood 6. That's all I know regarding to the men I'm related to. But anyway, I digress. I started worrying a year ago, so, although some are webcam shots, here's some pics of my hairline and crown/top of hair from a year ago. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff31/superxao/hairline.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff31/superxao/crowns.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7565/attachmentxb.jpg (hair is wet, looks worse than it is) http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff31/superxao/harrrlyne.jpg Again, sorry for yet another long post. I know I've been told not to worry and that my hair is fine... but yeah... sorry if it bugs anyone! I just feel if I knew for definite what I was looking for I'd stop worrying so much. Because I'm kind of, in the dark, as it where, it makes things worse, you know? Thanks again. - Jonny
  24. hey, thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate it . I think it's pretty safe to say I am just being overly concerned about nothing, which is a relief. Thanks for the link Spex, I'll give it a read! Flipping hate all this worry. I think the worst part is, because I'm so concerned, I post the same topic on about 4 other different forums, just to get a varied response I guess. I get told it's fine by the majority of people, then I check another forum and they tell me something different, and it sends me into a downward spiral. Like I checked one of the other forums just then, and it's essentially the same thread as the one posted here, three replies tell me my hair is fine, and that it's just my OCD controlling me, then two of them tell me to get on fin because it looks like I could be a diffuse thinner. How could they possibly tell that, when I don't have any thinning? It doesn't make sense.
  25. Thanks for the replies everyone. It's like everyone I ask tells me that I have no hair loss, and that I have nothing to worry about, but I dunno, I'm overly conscious of my temples. It used to be of my crown, but now am more concerned about any temple recession. I've even started looking at other peoples hair, to try and gauge my hairline against theirs. I've just had my haircut, and I pulled my hair back to check my hairline again, and to see if I can see any miniaturisation... and I don't really know what am looking for. Because my hair is blonde, am unable to see if any of the hairs are thinner. The majority of them appear to be of the same length as the rest of the hairs on my fringe, bar a couple which are shorter... but then I dunno whether that's just because I've had my hair cut.
