I know everybody hates Bosley, but I'm going to a consultation tomorrow just to get a prescription of Avodart. Whaddayou guys think? Will they give me the prescription? Otherwise I'll cancel b/c i don't really have any other reason to want to see those guys.

You order off of the dermmatch website, right? Their online order form looks real sketchy.

No one's talked about this here for a long time, and those entries are pretty vague. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a concealer that works well on blond hair. I don't want to buy anything, because on their ads you can't find a single blond person and that makes me pretty suspicious.

If i have shedding from Avodart (and everyone seems to, i'm sure i will) in the front at the hairline, assuming i get at least average results from the drug could i expect to regrow what i lost from shock loss? or would i just be hoping to freeze all loss after the shock loss was over? hopefully it's the former, because the latter would be very disappointing. oh and sorry if this has been asked a bunch before but could anyone who's taking avodart let me know what you're currently paying for it? i doubt my insurance will cover it since i'm 20, i'm sure they wont think its for prostate, but who knows?

My advice to the original poster (if he still checks here ever): don't be one of those douchebags who realizes they have to get married young, and before all their friends just because they're going bald. I'm 20, and been losing since i was your age, so i'm in the same boat as you, but i decided long ago that i would never try to rush things earlier than i would have if i was always going to have a full head of hair. But then again, that's just my advice, it's your life, maybe you'd be happier that way, who am i to say that's wrong? And who knows, maybe i'll puss out somewhere along the lines in the next few years like so many balding kids before me.

Since I started using the Rogaine foam only, and totally discontinued the liquid, a few weeks ago, i have had some discouraging results. I am wondering if this could be because my hair in the front is long to cover my hairline and maybe the foam is being absorbed in the hair too much and not enough in the scalp. Anybody think that this is possible? (don't let this discourage you, though, it could also be related to the fact i started taking Strattera for a few weeks, but quit because of bogus dizzyness side-effects, although I couldn't find anything on a google search linking Strattera with alopecia, and it is not a stimulant unlike other ADHD drugs like Adderall which you WILL DEFINATELY find hits on a google search linking with alopecia or hair loss).

Jesus, are you serious? I had no idea it was so expensive! I heard some people say that Proscar is sometimes covered on people's insurance because the insurance companies don't know it's for hair, not prostate. Maybe Avodart would have the same situation since its treatment for hair is still off-label? Hopefully, b/c there's no way i don't think i could justify that much money unless it was making a HUGE difference. Although, $180, that's just $6 a day. When you put it that way, doesn't seem quite as bad.

Now that I read this new study, and my hair is continuing to thin i'm going to see an HT doc this Winter break and get a prescription. Sure, long-term it's a little risky because the half-life is so much longer, but so what? I'm 20 and losing my hair, I dont give a shit if I can't get an erection without taking a pill when i'm 40.

could you provide any documentation for this? I was not aware that the foam had been shown to have a higher absorption rate. Actually I had always assumed that the foam had a lower absorption rate.

Dude! You're black! Just shave it bald, you can get away with it! Haha just kidding, I don't mean that to sound offensive or anything. Your choice is yours of course, but I always envy black people about hair because it is so much more culturally and aesthetically acceptable for them to be bald.

ive been using rogaine for a while, and i've been using the foam and the liquid, whichever is convenient since the foam came out. it's not itching anymore, that just happens every once in a while and it itches like hell. maybe when i've been consistantly taking it twice a day and not missing any applications for a little while i dont know. and yeah, i only use nizoral a maximum of twice a week.

basically, just what the subject says. my head has been itching like a mofo since i started consistantly using Rogaine twice a day, and i caved today and started scratching at my scalp. Is that bad? is that going to pull the hairs out?

yes, try rogaine, and use it twice a day. dont just do it once a day and then start using it twice a day when you're freaking out b/c you're still thinning evidence shows that used in combination rogiane and propecia are way better than on their own, so if you're paying all taht money for propecia, and not willing to shell out for the cheap ass minoxidil, you're a dumb ass (i'm not saying you are, but i was)

i take back what i said before, i like this stuff now. it's quick and easy, and the best part is that it is not visible, because i just rub it into my head. i donno maybe that means that my hands are absorbing some of it, whatever. i'll get the three month supply b/c that way i wont be getting ass raped in the prices. (although i dont recommend anybody starting with the three pack, test it out first rather than hating it and cursing me). it seems like when i combine the rogaine with the hair wax i normally use it gives my hair more substance, and it doens't blow in the wind as easily (but that may just be that my hair has grown out mroe or something). but whatever the case i put it in the other night right before i went out (as opposed to avoiding applying rogaine when you're about to leave because the liquid looks stupid), and my hair looked good. it's worth a try, just not as good as most of us had hoped. oh and i'll try it with a cold hand next time.

yes, i bought the product (as i said i would), and i must say that I agree with everything the previous poster said. except that by being forced to rub it into your head it can result in that grease drying up quicker so that your hair doesn't look stupid, although I am not sure that this is good for absorption as some of it is absorbed into your hands. but yes, the foam is basically the same, and you need much more than half a cap. I will consider buying the three-month version and using it in the mornings anyways because it is faster, and like i said the hair seems to dry quicker, but all around this is not the great product i had hoped it would be.

I just looked online about this and saw that it's just a prostate thing, and I found another website saying it was in Stage III for use as a hair loss prevention drug, set to be available to the public (if approved) in 2006. Did this happen? Anybody know the status? I had more or less ignored this option as I usually think the things with the best word of mouth are most likely the best, and I wouldn't want to give up my Propecia for something no one ever talked about. Now that i hear the only thing holding them back is fear of possible side effects, i'm pretty interested.

I've been taking Rogaine for about 9 months, and my hair's actually been pretty consistant over the past nine months, but I really wonder how big of a difference the Rogaine makes in comparison to the Propecia. Lately the extra blackheads on my face have really been bothering me, on my nose, cheeks, forehead, so i was thinking about quitting. Has anyone here ever stopped taking rogaine while continuing propecia? I'd like to know the experiences of anyone else who quit.

hey thanks for the feedback. yeah, i'm probably just going to cut it short like you said this summer. i'm afraid that that'll make me really look bald when it's apparent how thin the front is as i do not have hair from the middle of the head covering it. but oh well, at least then i'll be able to watch my hair grow and pick out a time when my hair looks best, and also i wont feel like a 20 year old phony w/ a combover.

I have a LOT of trouble keeping focus and concentrating on things, and i always have, but it seems to have gotten worse this year, my sophomore year in college. I'm not saying that this is because of the propecia, but it might be interesting to go off of it just to see if there's a difference. How long do you think I'd have to be off of it to notice a difference? and in addition to that, how long do you think it would be safe to go off of it w/out any expedited hair loss? anybody?
