  3. Hey dkle2, I was in my mid 20s a few years back when I began my research before finally going through with two FUE procedures with Dr. Rahal in Canada this year. I actually used this website a lot in becoming educated and deciding on what procedure to have and the surgeon to have perform it. As I am not from the UK, I cannot definitively answer all of your questions, but I will address the ones I can and leave it to our British forum peers to help with the rest. In terms of choosing a surgeon, members review surgeons on here all the time. Those who are consistently reviewed well go through a screening process and are offered membership in to the "Coalition of Hair Restoration Physicians". I would start with Coalition physicians that intrigue you for whatever reason is most important to you (patient results, experience with FUE, geography, etc.). Check out this link: Hair Transplant Network Also, check out: How to Pick a Hair Restoration Physician. Personally, I chose Dr. Rahal in Canada because he satisfied everything I wanted. Excellent results, I could drive there, and the price was right. There weren't too many patients on here with FUE from Dr. Rahal, but his reputation was so impeccable, I was confident he wouldn't offer something that would tarnish it. If money isn't an issue, then geography should definitely be very low on the list. I do not know the cost of 1000 grafts in Europe. The prices I found in Canada and the USA were $8-10 per graft. Different surgeons have different price points. In terms of recovery, I think you're a fair bit away from worrying about that, but I can give you a brief idea. You will definitely need a week off. For the FUE procedure, you may be required to shave your whole head. After two weeks, you probably won't be able to tell you've had surgery, but you will have to explain your new haircut. On the other hand, if you only truly end up with 1000 grafts, some surgeons may suggest keeping your hair long and taking grafts from different areas of the back of your head, which can then be covered up. That was the plan for my second procedure, but we decided on 1600 grafts instead of 1000, so that went out the window. Hope that helps! Good luck!
  4. Hey 4J, I'm not sure about those surgeons in particular, but most surgeons can definitely (and often, routinely) transplant around plugs. The results will depend on the thickness and numbers of hairs transplanted, as well as the number of plugs that they are covering up. Search on this forum or blogs for patients with previous plugs. I'm not sure what you mean by cutting "existing hair". If you mean the donor area (in the back), they will cut the hair for the area will they will extract and then suture it. As thehairupthere says, some surgeons will shave the area they are transplanting into (the recipient area), while others don't. If your hair in the back is about an inch long at the time of surgery, it should be long enough to cover the suture line in the back.
  5. This is awesome! I just had my second FUE with Dr. Rahal. Hoping I'll be as happy with the results as you are!
  6. Thanks, orlhair1!! I wish I could fast forward a few months!
  7. Hey Everyone! I just updated my blog. It's been 5 months since I had about 2100 FUE grafts placed into my crown. On October 24, I had an additional 1600 FUE grafts, this time mostly into the hairline with about 150 or so into the crown. Hair Restoration Site for hadenuf I hope this all works out. Very excited at the prospect of the hairline Dr. Rahal has created for me. Wish me luck!! This time Dr. Rahal took 1614 grafts - 525 singles, 893 doubles, 190 triples, and 6 quads
  8. Hey everyone! Pre and Post-op pics are in and I've posted them on my blog. I'll put up more photos and give another update some time next week. So far so good! Thanks for the support all!
  9. No prob, El Nino. Glad you didn't mind the shout out. I actually meant I was impressed with your results 9 months after your first session. I am a true NW 3V and do want to use grafts for the front. I don't mind being 40 with decent coverage and a bit of a bald spot in the back. I'm just not ready to be there at 28. The plan is tentatively set to have my second session around Christmas time this year. I'm sure I'll have a good idea of the density I will have back there by then, and hopefully Dr. Rahal can address it as needed when I see him then.
  10. Thanks! I don't know exactly what you mean by the "vertex mid area". If you mean the middle of my bald spot, then Dr. Rahal actually transplanted the most hairs there. But please clarify as I think we might be getting our wires crossed. As far as my crown goes, there are two parts. First, the hairs there were shaved down with a razor right to the skin and those hairs should grow back at the regular rate. However, as mentioned in the blog, he did not transplant the back of the crown so that I don't get a weird crescent shaped bald spot if I continue to lose hair. Dr. Rahal showed me a patient similar to "El Nino" (Hair Restoration Journal -Pre Op and Post Op) when he was describing his plan for me. If my results end up like his, I will be more than happy!
  11. Hey Everyone, I'm a long time reader of this website and I figured it was time I contributed. I've started a blog on the network website: Hair Restoration Site for hadenuf As expected, I had a great experience with Dr. Rahal and look forward to my new hair. I'm not going to write much here as all the details of my experiences so far can be seen on my blog. Can't wait for people to read it! One step closer to being a bit more care-free about something that has been such a distraction in my life. Cheers!
