  1. pc,

The reason he was thought to be a plant was because he extolled the virtues of Dr Rose and the fact that his wife didn't even know he had had a HT. He was not thought to be a plant becaue he said he had had a bad experience with an unknown doc. He would never have been considered a plant if he had not posted his experience with Dr Rose! My statement still stands!

  2. Hi dandare75,

You might do the scalp exercises on Joetronics site for laxity. The more laxity the more doc can remove. This is not a necessity.

I stayed at the Hampton, and they provided a very good breakfast and transportation to the office. I'm sure the other places will as well. Just arrange the night before so no hangups, and arrive at office early to do paperwork. The office is up stairs. When you get to the office you'll talk to Matt Zupan, then Shaprio comes in and draws on your head. He's very good. You next go back slip into the gown and start receiving your injections. Just remind yourself it won't last long!:-) Then Doc will give you a hair cut in the back and remove the strip. You won't feel a thing. Then the girls start seperating the strip into what doc needs, while doc is putting the slits into your head. He'll do this on and off during the process. Then Janna (she did me both times)will start putting in the grafts, it'll take around 8 hrs. You'll have a good lunch. Then you go back to the hotel. Make sure you take an ice pak and use it often to prevent swelling. I had absolutely no swelling but I iced often and long. You'll go back to Shapiro the next morning for a shampoo and look over. Then I went to the airport. My flight left out at 3:00 so I had plenty of time to relax, and spray the top of my head in the stall in the bathroom. It's a long process but really it's a piece of cake. Just know that you are in the most capable hands possible, and you'll have great results. Good Luck!

  3. Steve,

Some hair never falls out and after a while starts growing. I had plenty that did that. A good bit however will fall out and after a cycle will start sprouting, usually as very soft and wispy type of hair that strengthens and increases in diameter. If the hairs you are talking about have already fallen out you may indeed be seeing new growth starting. Every person is a little different. You'll know in a short while.

  4. MM,

I'm from Alabama and I flew to Minneapolis to have my work done my Shapiro, whom "I" considered "the man"! I've never regreted my decision and can't imagine anyone any better. However, Dr Rose is top flight and you would be happy using him. It's perception and personal preference to a large extent when dealing with top docs. So if Rose is close to you I think I'd get a consult from him.

  5. Hi TF,

More women than one would suspect have problems with thinning. I know there are some good HT docs in NY but the only one with whom I've had personal experience is Dr Shapiro in Minneapolis. He has done a number of women with very good results. He is a top HT doc and truly an artist. He's on the conservative side, down to earth and cares about his patients. Matt Zupan is his consult guy, you would want to do a consult first with whomever you are considering. I flew from Alabama, traveling for a HT is a piece of cake. Good luck!

  6. I had 2460 FUs for 6041 hairs on 12/15/03 with Dr Shapiro, and it really made a big difference for me, I was moving towards a Norwood VI. I will be heading back for another session on 12/08/04, for about the same size session. This should more than do it for me. I am very well pleased with my result and felt comfortable during the whole session. All the docs you mentioned are top notch and would do a great job.

  7. tberry,

I'm scheduled for December 8th with Dr Shapiro. I figure I'll be doing pretty really well with what I had done the first time. I'm not looking forward to going thru it all again but I am looking forward to the result. I do take comfort in knowing that Shaprio is, without a doubt, at the top of his class. I think you said that you're scheduled for March, are you going to have roughly the same amount done as the first time?

  8. Dadgum, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience! I'm 49 going on 50 with some nearsightedness, and now it's also getting harder to read up close as well. I use glasses to clearly see the tv, which is a little distance, or any writing at a distance. I've thought of getting lasic done on my eyes, now I'm not so sure about it. Thanks for the info, and I hope you're next surgery corrects your situation.

  9. Hang in there, most hair only starts poppin around three months. So you've got some great things ahead for you. You'll love what you see in the mirror 6 months...8 months...year! Are you taking MSM, Megamen vitamins from GNC? These really do help the hair to grow early and fast.

  10. Check with Shapiro's office, they'll set you up. I have my blood checked regularly for cholesteral, and so I just took the lab work request form and had my doc fill it out when they did my regular blood work. My insurance covered it all. BTW, when I was at Shapiro Medical I remember one of the ladies working on me changing her smock, it was covered with my blood. I don't blame them one bit for wanting a blood test done. And, tberry, you can't have anymore work done until I have mine done - don't forget that!:-)

  11. Social,

I went by CVS and found that my insurance is going to pay for all but $20 bucks. Man, I can't beat that, and I like being able to go to my local store to pick my meds. I bought a pill cutter and, it took a little time, but I quartered them. Propecia was costing me $50/month, now I pay $20/4 months. what a savings!

  12. Rugger,

Does it seem to you that traffic on this site has dropped off since the new changes, it seems a little slower to me. I wonder if it's because the format is a little less straight forward. When I go to the "posts since your last visit" section it's a little harder for me to read, and of course the posting pictures problem. I hope it picks up because this is the best of HT sites. Sure helped me! BTW, dittos on what you said about the soreness of the donor area.

  13. Harry,

I'll be looking forward to your pictures. I'm almost 4 months out from my 1st HT with Dr Shapiro, and things are growing in well it seems. I will be posting my pics in a short time as well. Pat will hopefully have things here pretty much back to normal pretty soon.
