  1. This 56 year old gentleman came to Dr. Keene to augment his hair in the hairline and mid frontal area. Dr. Keene made a recommendation of 2100 grafts for moderate coverage, which was this patient's goal. We did a little over 2200 grafts during his procedure, and he is very pleased with his cosmetic results. The photos are from before and either 8 or 12 months post surgery. Here is the graft breakdown: 1 haired grafts 382 2 haired grafts 810 3 haired grafts 806 4 haired grafts 294 Total grafts 2292 Total hairs 5596
  2. This 50 something year old patient came to Dr. Keene with extensive frontal hair loss. She filled in the area over 2 surgeries with a total of 4,085 grafts. The after photos are from 8 months post op his second procedure. He is very pleased with his results. Here is the graft break down: 1 haired grafts: 451 2 haired grafts: 2480 3 haired grafts: 1472 4 haired grafts: 456 Total grafts 4085 Total hairs 11,035
  3. Hi Taking the Plunge, Dr. Keene did recommend that he take Finasteride to stabilize his existing hair, and he did so for some time. Then recently, he decided to stop for a few months. He has decided to start taking it again because he did notice that he was starting to lose more hair again aside from the transplanted hair. He just didn't like the idea of taking medication, but he has not had side effects aside from saving his hair, so decided to go back on it.
  4. This 31 year old patient wanted to bring down his hair line and augment the density in his crown. Dr. Keene filled in with about 1800+ in the front and 700+ in crown. Here is the graft breakdown 1s) 320 2s) 1179 3s) 804 4s) 358 Total 2661 grafts Total hairs 6522
  5. This patient came to Dr. Keene for hair restoration to his front, central, and crown area. He had had one prior procedure of 800 grafts elsewhere 7 years prior. Dr. Keene filled in the front hairline and the midfront with 1400+ grafts, augmented the density in the central area with 600+ grafts, and added 300 in the crown with the following breakdown: 1s) 338 2s) 8990 3s) 940 4s) 391 Total 2559 The photos are from before and 1 year after surgery. The patient is very happy with his results , and thinks his hairline looks better than it did when he was a teen! He says his outlook is happier and life happier.
  6. Georhnr, People can only speak for the results they have seen. You can look at the before and after photos for both doctors, and get some idea from that, as well as meet with the doctors for a consultation. That way you can get a feel for your personal preference on who you would like doing your surgery. Experience matters, and Dr.Keene is the first Dr. who researched and reported natural hairline contour and density in people without androgenetic alopecia in order to scientifically determine what natural density and hairline contour are, which helps her to reproduce that.
  7. This 68 year old gentleman came to Dr. Keene to restore his hair in the frontal and mid frontal area. He had been losing hair since he was in his 40s. Dr. Keene filled in the areas with about 2800 grafts. These photos are from before and 1 year post op. Here is the graft breakdown: 1 haired grafts 460 2 haired grafts 956 3 haired grafts 992 4 haired grafts 400 Total grafts 2808 Total hairs 6948
  8. This 40 something gentleman came in for a 1 year follow up last week and is very happy with his results. He can definitely pass for younger now! Dr. Keene filled in the front hair line and mid front area with 2132 grafts and almost 6000 hairs. The graft breakdown was as follows: 1 haired grafts--300 2 haired grafts--906 3 haired grafts--724 4 haired grafts--808 Total grafts 2132 Total hairs 5998
  9. This 53 year old patient came to Dr. Keene to restore hair to his hairline, mid central area, and crown. Dr. Keene did 3319 grafts in a one day session, for a total of 7516 hairs. She had recommended that he have 3500 grafts as a minimum to provide thinning coverage, which does significantly impact appearance when you have little to no hair in an area before. But the patient opted for a lower number of grafts. His results were excellent with the number of grafts he had for the area covered--and he is very happy with his results. The thinning coverage he achieved makes him look years younger. It helps that the hair in the back of the head is the last area to turn gray, so when it is transplanted to the front, the color alone helps restore a younger appearance for men who don't want to dye their hair when it is turning gray. Here is the graft breakdown: 1s) 794 2s) 1211 3s) 956 4s) 358 Total 3319 7516 hairs
  10. This 40 something patient came to Dr. Keene to restore his hair line and fill in the frontal area. He looks much younger after the procedure and is very pleased with the results. The photos are from pre op and 2 years after his surgery. Here is the graft break down: 1 haired grafts=392 2 haired grafts=750 3 haired grafts=781 4 haired grafts=519 Total grafts=2442 Total hairs=6311
  11. This patient came in last week for a Finasteride follow up. He had 2 surgeries with Dr. Keene, the first in 2002, and the second in 2005. The post op photos are from 6 years after his 2nd procedure. We have had some patients ask if we have photos of patients years after their procedure because they are skeptical that the results are permanent, so have started taking photos of patients years after their procedure for that reason. Here is the graft breakdown: 1s) 489 2s) 2830 3s) 3381 4s) 1540 Total grafts 3416 Total hairs 8240
  12. This patient had one consecutive day surgery for a total of 3700 plus grafts. Here is his graft break down: one haired grafts: 351 two haired grafts: 1040 three haired grafts: 1354 four haired grafts: 981 Total: 3726 Total hairs: 10,417
  13. Hi Flippy, Dr. Keene does not always require that you take medication, she simply recognizes that you may continue to lose additional hair in the future, and are considerably less likely to do so if you take Finasteride. So it depends on whether or not you would still benefit from surgery as to whether or not she would require it prior to doing surgery. We know that hair we transplant is permanent. But we don't know whether your existing hair is (except in the back of the head). So that is why she recommends the medication. Please feel free to call us to schedule a 2nd consultation with Dr. Keene so you can discuss your concerns and she can address them. Not all of our patients take Finasteride, but she recommends it because she knows it works. If you don't want to take it, she will work with that in mind. Dr. Keene is very well respected as one of the top doctors in the field of hair restoration surgery. We have patients who come from all over the world, including Canada. It really helps that you know a patient of Dr. Keene's personally so you have seen the results in person. So don't be dissuaded by other posters from seeing her based on the fact that she is also not far from where you live.

Here is the distribution: 1s) 467 2s) 843 3s) 723 4s) 287 Total 2320 Total hairs 5470
  18. Hi FrankyKnuckles, I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the list of doctors you mentioned. Dr. Keene has an excellent reputation, and is known for having helped educate other doctors about hair restoration techniques that result in a natural, aesthetically pleasing appearance. At the time that doctor Keene started doing hair restoration surgery, many doctors were still doing plugs. She started back in the mid 90's doing micrografts, and aligning the hairs to match native hair so the results were completely natural. She has continually refined her techniqes, sharing and exchanging ideas with her fellow hair restoration surgeons, and continues to provide only state of the art procedures. She has thousands of very satisfied patients, and is recognized by her peers as one of the experts in the field of hair restoration. Dr. Keene is one of the most accomplished hair restoratioin surgeons available, in my opinion, based on my many years of working with her and from seeing the results of her patients, as well as other doctors' patients. She does mainly the strip procedure for a number of reasons, (FUE is not scarless, it increases transection so provides less yield, it decreases the number of grafts that can be harvested from a safe zone, where we know the hair is permanent--for more details on this feel free to schedule a conference call with her) but she also does FUE occasionally, when it is appropriate, and preferred by the patient. Both procedures result in only very small scars in the donor area, and can result in a virtually undectable donor scar. In the patients where the donor stretches, it can happen with the FUE technique as well, and then it is harder to do an excision because the scars are distributed over a larger area. She would be happy to offer you a phone conference--and it's always a good idea to talk to more than one doctor. If you would like to schedule a telephone conference call with Dr. Keene, please call the office at 1-800-840-9761.
  19. These photos are from 2 years after the second procedure. His results gave him a completely natural appearance, and he continues to take Finasteride (7 mg weekly) to maintain the non transplanted hair. Here is the breakdown: 1s) 818 2s) 2004 3s) 1482 4s) 661 Total grafts 4695 Total hairs 11,910
  20. This patient had 1524 follicular and double follicular unit grafts to the frontal area. These photos are from before and 7 months after surgery. The patient feels he has achieved an excellent cosmetic result. The breakdown of his graft numbers are: 1 haired grafts: 283 (283 hairs) 2 haired grafts: 350 (700 hairs) 3 haired grafts: 640 (1920 hairs) 4 haired grafts: 251 (1004 hairs) Total 1524 grafts Total hairs: 3907
  21. This patient had 4362 grafts in a consecutive day surgery. Pat came to visit during his surgery, so you can also see parts of this patient's surgery here http://hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/136087-visit-sharon-keenes-clinic-physicians-hair-institute.html. We have moved to a new office since that visit, but the patient photos show you where the hairline was drawn in prior to surgery. The graft distribution was as follows: 1 haired grafts: 458 2 haired grafts: 1413 3 haired grafts: 1718 4 haired grafts: 710 Total: 4362 Total hairs: 11467 He looks great! and gave Dr. Keene a big hug for his results.
  22. Thanks Mike the Dane, I will pass that along to Dr. Keene. I agree, but its always nice to hear the results are phenomenal from an unbiased soure.
  23. This 55 year old gentleman, type IVa, came to Dr. Keene to restore his frontal area. These photos are from before and 18 months post operative. He received the following graft distribution: 1s) 458 2s) 1067 3s) 938 4s) 289 total 2752 total hairs 6562
  24. When posters say that there is a problem with saying that lateral slits are used when appropriate, I think its possible they don't really understand what lateral slits are. Any Dr. who has done natural hair transplants slants the blade to match the angle of hair growth, and Dr. Keene has done that since she began doing hair restoration surgery. However, when a flat blad is used, turning the blade horizontally, like this _ rather than vertically i.e. like this l is what is meant by lateral. So, one case for example of where there is no discernible difference is if you make a horizontal incision or a vertical incision and insert a one haired graft in the incision, you are not going to see any difference when the graft grows out--a one haired graft cannot fan out. The idea is that if a graft of more than one hair is placed horizontally the fanning effect makes it look like more from the front of the head. But what about from other angles? In some areas, like the crown, it helps to create a swirl pattern to slant the blades horizontally instead of vertically. At any rate, sometimes the lateral incision is useful, but sometimes it is not, and that is why Dr. Keene says she uses it where appropriate.
