Hi! One thing I've thought about is the significance of scabs. Most clinics urge their patients to try to remove scabs and shower to keep scabbing to a minimum. Why is that? Does the scabs in any way delay or prevent new hair growth? I know there is one study by Bernstein and Rassman demonstrating that scabbing could put the grafts at risk for being dislodged a longer period than when no scabbing is present, but there must be other reasons for preventing scabbing. What do you know about this subject?

Just a little update: I told her yesterday and it all went fine. She said that it didn't matter to her, that she liked me for who I am, not my hair. She was also impressed with the work, she would never have known I had work done. She was very supportive, and didn't mind me having a new procedure (which is scheduled with dr Feriduni in March). Though, she clearly pointed out that she thinks I look good as I am, and that I definately don't have to do it for her. But she said that if this is something that is important for me I should go through with it, and she will stand behind me. So it all went well and it feels good not to have any secrets anymore.

We don't run in the same circles, and live in 2 different cities, som if we'd break up we don't really have any common friends. I realize that I probably have to tell her, some of my relatives already know, and it would be a problem if anyone of them by accident would mention it in front of her. Probably she'd wonder shy I haven't told her myself. It'll also probably be hard to hide the HT.

Hi! I need you advice on something that I have to consider pretty soon. I have done 2 hair transplants with dr Hasson with excellent results, I have virtually gone from a NW 4 to a NW 1. Since 7 months, I have dated a great girl that is a bit younger than me, and it's getting pretty serious and we're talking about moving in together. The problem is that she doesn't know that I've had hair transplants. Sometime she's talked about how nice she thinks my hair looks, and how unusual it is to have that good hair at my age (I am 36 and she is 27). She has seen some old pictures, and she has commented that I look much better now than before , but I'm not sure that she realizes that the hair is the difference. On March 1st I will do a small FUE to fix my temple points, and that is hopefully the last procedure I will ever do. Should I tell my girlfriend about this? Won't it seem strange that I go away for 2 weeks, and then come back with a shaved head? Somehow I realise that I have to tell her eventually, but I'm afraid that she will think I am superficial and that it will change the way she thinks about me. What would you have done in my place? How have you solved similar problems in your lives? /Danny

Do any of you guys know what policy on cancellations dr Feriduni has? If you cancel in time, will you be able to get any down payments back and avoid additional fees? I'm thinking of scheduling my surgery, but I'm not sure about my work schedule, but since Feriduni is booked som many months in advance I feel I have to book now anyway. What do you think of Feridunis fUE-work?

Right now I'm considering finishing my hair transplant journey by doing a FUE of 400-500 grafts to restore my temple points. Who would you say is the best surgeon in the world at restoring temple points with FUE, regardless of location and price? I know opinions will differ, and it's hard to say that on surgeon is better than the other, but it's still interesting to see what people think.

Hi! I've been thinking about buying Proscar or generic Finasteride instead of Propecia. One thing that makes me a little hesitant though is that I'm afraid that the effect will not be as good as when taking Propecia. Is there any risk of damaging the active substance when splitting Proscar? On the information page about the drug, it says that tablets should not be split. Do you know why? Have you noticed any decrease in effectiveness when starting using generic Proscar/Finasterid instead of Propecia?

Do you know the reason behind your patchy leg hair growth? If it's autoimmune alopecia, then perhaps transplantation is not a viable option. If the etiology is not autoimmune, and thee is no disease behind the patchy growth, then transplant could be a viable option.

No, he clearly said the reason was that he felt that he couldn't make the temple points look natural enough, due to my coarse hair. And since he is one of the highest ranking surgeons in the world I suspect that he knows what he's talking about.

Though I understand that he's gotten a mixed reception on this forum. Any idea why, his results seem solid? Capelli11: I will certainly follow your progress. aaron1234: I think the temple points would be the icing on the cake, that would complete my hair transplant journey. I don't need any more hair on top as it is now, but you never know what will happen in the future. I plan on continuing with Propecia though.

I have undergone 2 strip surgeries with a well respected surgeon totalling about 6100 grafts, with good results. One thing that I'm lacking though is temple points, since I have none, and I don't think I've ever had temple points. During the last surgery I asked if the surgeon could restore the temple points, but he felt that my hair was too coarse for it to look completely natural. I have dark, coarse hair and fair skin. My question is: Is it possible to successfully restore temple points in a person with very coarse, dark hair and fair skin? I've thought a bit about doing a FUE of 400-500 grafts using nape hair, which is finer and would give a softer look to the temple points. I know hair from this region is not necessarily DHT-resistant, but on the other hand it wouldn't be a disaster if I'd lose my temple points in the future, I'd just be back to where I am now, and the money is not an issue. Also, with nape hair/hair in the lower part of the neck I wouldn't waste precious hair in the permanent donor zone. I probably have about 2000-3000 grafts left as it is, and most of the hair in the midscalp is native hair, which I could lose, although I'm on Propecia since about 12 years with good results. Noone in my family has extensive loss of nape hair, and noone has progressed beyond NW 5. What do you think about using nape hair to restore the temple points? Which surgeons would be willing to use nape hair? Do you have nay examples of good surgeons that do this? Any input would be appreciated! /Danny

NEWHAIRPLEASE: Interesting question, I have thought about that a lot myself. Could it be that the follicles in the crown are more susceptible to DHT because of a somewhat different collection of androgen receptors, whereas the grafts inte the front are minituarized partly because of DHT, but partly because of yet unknown factors that can't be influenced by the alfa-reductase activity of finasteride? And that worse vascularization of the the crown leads to slower recuperation of the transplanted graft due to an inferior blood supply, and hence a longer dormant period?

Hi! I did my first surgery at a well respected clinic in the summer of 2010, and got excellent results. I mainly did the front then, and I had very early growth. I saw a significant change already at about 2.5 months. This summer I had my second surgery with the same surgeon and I'm now about 3.5 months out from the surgery, in which we mainly concentrated on restoring my temple points and crown. The temple points are already there, and it's fantastic to see such a big change in such a short time. But not much has happened in the crown region. I can see a little growth, but not much. Should I be worried, since I already have significant growth at the temples, but not in the crown? Can the crown growth be that much slower?

I didn't experience any shedding on Propecia. On the contrary, after about 4 months I noticed a significant decline in the shedding I experienced before starting finasteride. If you want to make sure your hair will stay healthy,which you should after spending so much time and money on hair transplants, finasteride is the best option at the moment. Thanks to finasteride and hair transplants I now have a full head of hair, and I sure wouldn't have gotten the results I have without finasteride. If you feel it's safer to start with a lower dose, and then increase it gradually then do so.

I think a problem with trying to monitor hair loss is that you won't notice that your hair in the crown is thinning until you've lost about 40-50% of your density.

For your hair to look thinner, you would need an extremely large shed, which I don't think will happen with Propecia. The reports of people shedding are from patients themself, and no objective measures have proven that they really are shedding. In none of the studies on finasteride shedding has been reported as a side effec, and many experts question if shedding really occurs. For Minoxidil, there are proof that a shed is actually taking place but not with finasteride. Any way, even if a shed occurs, it's temporary and shouldn't be a factor when deciding if you should use Propecia or not.

There really isn't any clinical evidence that Propecia actually can cause a shed, but there are some anectodal evidence, though pretty weak. If you'd get a shed, it will not make your hair look thinner. There is no evidence what so ever that starting with 0.5 mg would prevent a shed, and even theortically it doesn't seem likely that it would matter much. I would advise you to start 1 mg/day as soon as possible to keep the hair you have. The side effects are blown out of proportion if you ask me. If you'd get serious side effects, just stop taking the drug.

Yes, his crown extends quite a bit downwards, but not necessarliy to low to conform to the NW6 pattern. An NW7 also loses hair on the top of the sides, and it's hard to say anything about that from the pictures. It's possible that he'll become an NW7, but what I'm saying is just that he shouldn't automatically assume that he'll become an NW7 and make decisions according to that. Instead he should do a miniaturization test before making any decions. I definately agree that he sould start Fin though, as it's important to hang on to the hair that is left either way

The infection will obviously not directly affect the scalp, since tooth infections normally spread locally, and sometimes to the farynx, the neck and sinuses, but never to the scalp. What I was wondering is if the stress such an infection would put on the body could affect the HT in any way? High fever is for example known to sometimes cause telogen effluvium a couple of months after the infection.

I think 1500-2000 calories per day sounds a bit low. The basic need for the average person is about 30 kcal /kg/day, that is 2100 kcal for a person with a weight of 70 kg. But if you have a higher metabolism than average or if you're physically active you'd need more. If you want to lose the muscles, it would probably be enough to just stop weight lifting. Why not start by cutting down the caloric intake to 2500-3000, since you still will be doing cardio? If you don't accumulate fat with that diet, just continue with it. With a BMI of 21.6, you're already at the low end of the scale. An energy deficiency will just make you weak, uninspired and lacking energy in your exercise, job and daily life.

I think it's wrong to say that NW7 necessarily is the end stage for this guy. There's nothing in his pictures that indicates this. A lot of people only become NW6, albeit starting to lose hair at an early age. To know at which stage you'll likely end up, you should have a miniaturization mapping done. Also take a look at relatives, to see where they ended up.

It's a known fact that strict weight loss diets can cause telogen effluvium. But if you lose weight slowly and don't cut your caloric intake too much, it probably shouldn't be much of a problem. If you'd get a shed it would also probably just be temporary. But just to be safe, isn't it better to wait until the HT has grown out before making any drastic dietary changes?

If the exercises tire you out, a good idea could be to do more sessions of execise per day, instead of 2 times per day maybe 4 sessions a 5 min per day or more.

Hi! I did my HT about 1 1/2 months ago with a well respected surgeon. Tuesday this week, I removed a wisdom tooth in my lower jaw. After that I got a slight fever, 38,3 C, pain and diffuclty to swallow and open my mouth due to an infection. Currently I'm being treated with antibiotics. Could this infection in any way jeopardize my HT result?

Hi! When is the best time to do a second HT? I know many clinics recommend to wait about 1 year, but is that the optimal time? Would it be better to wait 2 years, or is there no ssignificant difference? I would be more than happy to wait one more year for a new HT if there is a significant difference, but is there one? /Danny
