  1. It usually takes at least 3 months (13 weeks) for any significant growth to occur. Hang in there.
  2. Dude1, try shampoo with jojoba oil in it, or emu oil. Do a search on google and you'll find it. I had teh same problem and the jojoba shampoo helped a lot. It's not expensive either.
  3. How did you remember all those details after taking the Valium? Impressive. Care to post your post-op pics?
  4. I started using Propecia on Aug 1, almost exactly 3 months ago. I started noticing about a week ago that I am shedding more than usual. I know this is not abnormal, but was wondering how long the shedding period usually lasts? And is it true that shedding at 3 months means the Propecia "is working", or is that wishful thinking coming from people who are going through the shed? THANKS!

  6. Shorty, I had a HT in August from Joe Greco in Clearwater, FL. He has done HT surgeries on burn victims and even showed me a very moving video that was put together of a young girl who was badly burned in a car fire that he later did transplant work on. There are pictures of her on his web site. www.grecohairsurgery.com. You should check out other docs too but he might be a good person to talk to.
  7. Costco sells a four pack of generic 5% minoxodil for $20. it's been that price for several years now. for $5 a month, i think it's worth using it in combination with proscar/propecia. if there isn't a costco near you, go to www.costco.com. It's under their name brand, "Kirkland 5% Minoxodil."
  8. If you don't mind revealing it, who was the doctor?
  9. My understanding is that sleeping upright for 3 days is to prevent swelling.
  10. Arfy, unless you have personally seen several patients of both Shapiro and Greco in person, I don't think you are qualified to answer that question. Just my opinion. I think by now, everyone knows Joe isn't an MD. He has 20 years experience in HT surgery he did surgeries for Shapiro when Shapiro had a Clearwater office. Shapiro sold that office to Greco and Dr. Rose. Not sure of the details of the Greco/Rose split but I know Joe still speaks highly of Rose. I truly believe if Joe was an MD, many people would say he is the best in the world. Again, just my opinion. I've met 3 of his patients and they all looked incredible (Andy being one of them). Because he's not and MD, and even though he does the same type of work (from what I've seen and heard) as Shapiro's crew - all fu's - people do not talk about him as much. For the record, I did have a surgery with Joe in mid-August. I'll be happy to e-mail pictures to anyone who wants to see them once everything is fully grown in about 4 months from now. Joe is also less expensive than Shapiro. I think anyone interested in a HT should talk to Joe. I'm not saying everyone will think he's the best surgeon for them, but based on his results he is certainly worth talking to. Shadows, I hope this info helps.
  11. I just started using propecia 2 months ago. I understand from testing that has been done that it works on 83% of patients who use it. My questions is: of the 17% it doesn't work on, does it mainly tend to not work on people who are "very bald" or could it just as easily not work on someone who still has a decent amount of hair? In other words, are there certain similarities in the patients who it didn't work on. THANKS!

  13. Yes, I am 6 weeks post op and still have donor site itching (not recipient site though). E-mail me at terps2703@yahoo.com if you want to discuss. Thanks.
  14. If you're going to be in the area, you may want to check out Joe Greco as well. They used to work together when Greco was associated with Shapiro's group. Greco is in Clearwater.
  15. Dr. Vogel gave me a prescription for Propecia. I asked him about this and he said it wouldn't be an issue.
  16. I'd like to know what doctors recommend to put on the donor scar after a transplant? Will untreated scars not fade as well as treated ones, or will treated scars just fade quicker than untreated scars? For how long would you recommend using something? Thanks.

  18. Toppik is awesome for the crown. And it's cheap too so you don't risk much by trying it.
  19. How soon after a FU transplant can you use Toppik? Not to apply directly on the grafts, but on existing sirrounding hairs to help thicken it in order to comb over and help hide the little FU hairs. If some of the Toppik were to get on the grafts would it hurt them? I am currently 6 days post op and all of my scabs are gone. I used GraftCyte which seemed to help the healing process immensely. Thank you.

  21. If your hairline is done well with FU's, you can always let it grow and comb it back so that those hairs partially cover your crown.
  22. Is it necessary to discontinue the use of 5% Minoxodil before HT surgery? If so, how long should you not use it? I have heard differing answers on this. I use minox on my crown only, and am scheduled for surgery to have fu's put into my hairline. Thanks.

  24. If you don't mind me asking, who was the doctor who "recycled" the larger grafts?
