  1. No knowledge of them personally, but I haven't heard good things based on old posts on this board. Do a search for "NuHart" and check out what others have said. Results of my 1424 FU transplant procedure on 8/16/02 can be viewed at... http://community.webshots.com/user/ttaco

  5. Yes, I had 430 or so from '95-98. Dr. Weidig in Rockville, MD, did the work. On one of my old posts I go into more detail about it. Results of my 1424 FU transplant procedure on 8/16/02 can be viewed at... http://community.webshots.com/user/ttaco
  6. Yes, he does use a multi bladed knife (3 blades I think), and he takes two 5 mm strips instead of one 1 cm strip. I did not have 2 scars though as it is still one "area" that is closed up. I'll try to get a donor area pic up this week, I need someone to take it for me. I certainly understand the apprehension about the multi blade as most docs don't use it. Maybe he's done it in a way that works better for him, I'm not sure. I was surprised how many FU's he was able to take from my previosuly harvested (punch grafts) donor area. He is good about replying to e-mails so if you ask him why he uses it I'm sure he will give you his reasoning. 7. No, Greco excises the donor area and makes the all the graft incisions. I will try to take a pic of my donor area this week when I take my 8 month post op pics. Keep in mind it was previously harvested for the mini/micro punch grafts I had in the mid-90's. I can't really see the scar from the strip surgery with Joe, and I don't keep my hair very short and I'm not always searching for it. 8. Billorbob, I have never heard on any board from a patient of Greco's who was unhappy. As you said, the bashers are the ones who say he is not an MD. Being an MD does not make you a great HT surgeon. And while I understand it's a concern and an issue, he has an MD on staff (Dr. Wall) all day long at his clinic, which I believe is required by law. Greco ?

My opinion is to check him out. I know you have seen my pics, and I will be adding an 8 month post op pic on 4/16. There's another poster on this board named Andy who also went to Greco. He has pics posted too. I talked to Andy quite a bit before deciding on going to Joe and I'm sure he'd talk to you too. E-mail me at ttm27@hotmail.com if you have specific questions about Joe, I'd be happy to share my experience with you. 10. Rock has definitely receded but he also is shaving it much closer than he used to. I wouldn't classify him as bald though. Angle was definitely thinning big time and lost a hair vs. hair match (I know, it's pathetic that I know this), and kept it shaved ever since. 12. I used Graftcyte and healed pretty quickly. I went back to work 5 days after the procedure. But I also didn't have to shave my head, and had significant hair to cover up the grafted area, which was 1400 FU's in the hairline (in front of old pluggy grafts). I was able to comb my existing hair forward enough to conceal the new little hairs that were still hanging around at the 5 day mark. Scalp was a tad pink at that point but not very noticeable pink. Everyone heals differently though, and it depends on how much hair you have to help cover the new grafts. I have a 5 day post op pic if you want to see it.
  13. Try clubphoto.com, ofoto.com, or webshots.com. They are free and let you post a ton of pics. You can label each album and put them in order. So you can do a "before" album, "3 months post op" album, etc.
  14. Steve21, Thanks for the kind words. Greco basically said that Weidig's work was a typical punch graft transplant that is now an obviously outdated procedure. Joe was able to take some of the previously punched out donor area and still use it to dissect the FU's. The density is decent from the old grafts, just bad looking aesthetically. As I've said before, thank God Weidig was conservative with my hairline. I did not want a low one, but he agreed and didn't try to talk me into a teenage hairline. That would have been disastrous. Weidig was the best known HT doc in the DC area, and I was young and uneducated about HT's at the time so I went to him based on him being on the local news, magazines, etc. which said he was the best around. He did a lot of local celebs (someone told me he did one on Dexter Manley of the Redskins). From what I hear, he was one of the better hairmills, which isn't saying much. Pretty ironic story - when I went to check out Greco and sit in on a procedure back in June, the patient he was working on was also an ex-Weidig patient. Funny b/c Joe is in Clearwater, FL, no where near where Weidig was (he's now retired). You are right though in that Weidig was very well known on the East Coast. E-mail me at ttm27@hotmail.com if you want to discuss further. Thanks. [This message was edited by ttaco on March 17, 2003 at 06:56 AM.]
  15. Hairs are thickening up, still kind of "crooked"; they should straighten out like the rest of my hair in a few months.
  16. Some claim spironolactone has helped. Check it out at www.minoxidil.com
  17. Tedd, if you are back in the Tampa/Clearwater area anytime soon and want another surgeon to consult with, speak with Joe Greco. He used to work with Dr. Rose in Tampa for several years. I had a procedure with Joe back in August. You can find my 6 month post op pic in an earlier post about a month ago. Rose is excellent from what I hear, and Greco speaks very highly of him, but in case you want another opinion, give Joe a call. I will also let you know that Joe is a physicians assistant and PhD, he is not an MD. But he has an MD on staff throughout the surgery and I think his results are excellent. He does all FU procedures. And I agree you made a smart move by ruling out Dr. Riggs' old clinic. A guy I talked to did not have a great experience with Riggs, and went to Joe for repair work. I didn't get a chance to meet him to see for myself but talked at length with him over the phone. Good luck to you!
  18. I was also told not to take anything that would thin the blood for either a week or 2 weeks (don't remember), don't drink alcohol for a week-10 days, and take 1000mg Vitamin C 2 weeks prior (to aid in healing), and Vitamin K for 1 week prior. My healing was very quick and I did not have a lot of bleeding during surgery.
  19. I live in Maryland also, just curious if it was a local doc(s) who did your procedures.
  20. On how soon after the procedure you need to cover up, and it depends on how much exiting hair you have and where the grafts are. Can you elaborate?
  21. Price shouldn't be a huge factor in your decision making, but if Rose's work is excellent and you are comfortable with him, met some of his patients, etc., why not save a few bucks? One reason Bernstein is expensive is b/c he's in NYC. I haven't heard anything negative about Rose.
  22. RVD, I had 400 micros/minis. About 70% were micros. The last 100 were very small. None of the old grafts were removed. Another doctor I went to said I absolutely had to remove the old grafts b/c they couldn't be camouflaged, but from what I'm seeing I think Joe has proven him wrong. Big It Up, donor hair was not an issue. Greco took a strip of previously "moth eaten" donor area and took the FU's from that strip. He said I still have a decent amount of donor hair left. I am taking 1/5 Proscar daily along with 5% spiro cream and 5% minox to keep what I have for as long as possible. If I had used this stuff when I was younger I may have not needed a transplant in the first place. Oh well. I will post a monthly pic so you can see how the new work is progressing. 23. Thank you everyone for the kind comments about my new hairline. NW, the work was done by Joe Greco.
  24. He did the micros/minis along with Dr. Weidig.
