Dr. Timothy Carman
blazed- We have performed this procedure on a few patients who come with previous surgical scars residual from multiple surgeries wherein the scar from previous procedures was(were) not removed. Depending on the location and orientation of these scars, one can remove them, while utilizing the hair bearing regions in between. The limiting factor, as with all strip procedures, is the amount of laxity present in the scalp. As long as the surgeon allows for minimal tension on the new donor closure, the cosmetic result should be a great improvement over the presenting condition, inasmuch as multiple portions of multiple scars can be exchanged for one. As well, in the same procedure, those portions of previous scars which can't be removed, due to limitations of laxity, can be grafted into with the grafts obtained from the harvested strip. Overall, this is an area where, donor area laxity permitting, one can get a nice improvement.
