Man Angry Over Hair Transplant Attacks Stylist

Man Angry Over Hair Transplant Allegedly Attacks Stylist

Stylist Had Referred Suspect To Doctor

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A man angry over the results of hair transplant surgery attacked a hair stylist with a baseball bat, police said.

The stylist at Mr. Carmine's International Hair Forum had referred the suspect to a doctor who performed the transplant surgery, police said. Hair transplantation is an operation in which a surgeon takes hair from the back or side of the head and moves it to balding areas.

Anthony Gjelaj, 26, of New York, was unhappy with the results and returned to Mr. Carmine's on Nov. 8 with a baseball bat hidden under his jacket, police said.

He struck the 59-year-old stylist repeatedly in the arms and legs. The victim was treated and released Stamford Hospital.

Gjelaj turned himself in Tuesday and was arrested on a warrant for second-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault. He was released on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 3 in Stamford Superior Court.

Gjelaj's attorney, Michael Sherman, said his client was distraught over the transplant.

"Nothing justifies an assault ... by the same token you have to take into consideration the anguish this young man must have gone through," Sherman said.

Police said Gjelaj repeatedly tried to contact his doctor about the results and eventually went back to Mr. Carmine's to talk to the stylist.

As a criminal defense attorney and a HT recipient, I was at once shocked and thrown into fits of uncontrollable laughter. This is one for the books. I guess we'd all love to know just who the doctor was.

In addition to being a patient of Dr. Hasson, I act as the legal counsel for Hasson and Wong.
