2nd HT concern.... misguiding doctors????

First I'd like to thank those who replied to my previous posts in regards to the growth rate of my 1st HT. It's really great to have that type of support when you've made such a big decision to alter your appearance in such a fashion.

It's been almost 12 months now since my 1st HT. I have now seen my HT doctor and they have said that I will need another HT to fill up my hair. That's okay, because the feedback from other members suggested that also. However, I must admit that I felt a little misguided by my doctor. It seems obvious now that I would have needed more grafts, but during my pre op consultations, I felt the doctor had not explained this to me and had given me a sense that I wouldn't really need another one. I kind of feel that I had been sucked in to get the 1st HT to effectively place me in a point of no return situation. I probably would have got the HT done anyway, but the feeling of being misguided by my doctor doesn't sit well.

I believe my doctor did a good 1st HT but do I use him again if I feel they are misguiding during consultations, where they deliver a sales pitch rather than giving pure objective feedback on your current hair situation and goals?

I will be making other visits to other HT doctors for their opinions. Can anyone recommend some Australian HT doctors?

Hi Franklin,

I had my first HT done in Australia, and then I traveled around Europe and now I'm back. I should have changed my location.

In Australia I had seen a few Doctors and I wasn't convinced in their skills. These doctors seemed to put more effort into marketing than actually delivering a good product. I have also read bad reports from these doctors, so maybe this could be some correlation to look for upon selection.

The doctor I chose was highly recommended by my GP, although they do not push their marketing campaign they seemed to be very good and I have seen positive remarks on their work by other members. It might be the industry itself or maybe just in Australia, where doctors seem to pitch their services to you, which always make me feel uneasy. The Doctor I did choose was less commercial than the others, but was still a bit "pitchy". I was hoping for someone to recommend a "white knight" like surgeon, who is upfront from the start with nothing to hide and no B/S. I thought during my consultation that I had asked the right questions.

I guess a lesson for all this is to have the right questions ready and make sure that you note them down. I should have looked for someones full proof assurance method of "what to ask the HT surgeon". As I said lesson learned.

Depending on your degree of hair loss and expectations on the final outcome many people are of the view that more than one surgery will be necessary. However, you should expect a very substantial improvement from a first surgery. My advice would be don't let travel get in the way (sure most people on here would agree) and do some online consultations with some doctors on this site to get an idea of what could be acheived in a 2nd surgery. Don't forget that there is limited donor supply and you need to plan for future hair loss.

Good luck.
