HTNewbie
Hello, I am a long time reader of the site and recently decided to take the plunge at 34 and receive a HT. The 2500 FUE procedure was performed by the recommended Dr. Vories of Carolina Hair Surgery. All of the grafts were placed into the frontal and mid part of the scalp. The surgery took place over two days on the 29th and 30th of September 2014. Overall I felt the procedure went smoothly and the two days flew by. Both days we started at around 9AM and I was able to leave the office around 2PM. There is either music or a movie playing the entire time for you to enjoy. Also breaks are provided at least once every hour if needed, and there is also a break for lunch. Dr. Vories extracted and implanted every graft and the whole staff was very friendly and accommodating. Following the procedure was a good deal of swelling and I had to take a flight home the following day. I brought a loose fitting hat to wear on the plane. It was a little uncomfortable due to the swelling but not too bad. Pain medication and sleep medication is prescribed. I took the sleep medication for a few days and only needed the pain medication for a couple days after the procedure. Most of the graphs stayed in place and even grew for about the first month and then started to fall out rapidly around week 5. I can see some little dark hairs growing in, not sure if they will fall out as well. There is still some redness on the scalp, specifically in the hairline, but it is mild and has diminished since the surgery. Now I have to play the waiting game, relax and hope for the best. Please feel free to ask any questions about the surgery, within the forum rules, and I will do my best to answer. I plan on keeping this thread updated with monthly progress. Also I have attached photos of pre op from the Doctors office. The next two photos are 1 week post op and the final two are from 1 month post op. Thanks, HTNewbie

HTNewbie
Thanks everyone for the reply's. I had to resize the images because they were initially too large. Will try to correct the issue when I post the 2 month post op photos in a week or so.
Regular Member Cuttlefish Posted November 26, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted November 26, 2014 Thank you for sharing Newbie, I've just booked a 3000 graft appointment with him in Feb. I'm nervous, but excited, how's the shockloss? Has it set in badly yet for your native hairs? Are you using rogaine/propecia? What made you finally settle on Dr. Vories? HTNewbie
I know exactly how you are feeling. Leading up to the surgery I was feeling both excited and nervous. The surgery itself was not that bad and now that it is over I am waiting patiently to see the final results. There does appear to be some shock loss to the native hairs, mainly around the edge of the thinning area on the top of the scalp. This appears to be normal and it is still too early to tell if it will grow back or the hairs were just weak and going to fall out anyway. I have never used propecia or rogaine but read that they can contribute one way or the other to the shock loss. As for choosing Dr. Vories. I spent many months researching different Doctors once I finally decided to have the FUE procedure. He comes recommended from this site and is one of the few Doctors I found that personally extracts and places every single graft. I had an online consultation with a few different Doctors and felt he was being the most honest and not just telling me what I wanted to hear in order to schedule a surgery. It is just over two months now since I have had the procedure. Looking at the pictures you can see that the hairline is still a little pinkish but it's improving. Regular Member lakelife Posted January 30, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks for sharing. I'm scheduled for a similar ht with vories in April. I was initially worried that co-workers noticing, but I may be able to take off work for 2 weeks. How many days did you feel like others could not obviously see you had a ht? HTNewbie
It was about a month after the procedure before I felt most people could not notice that I had a procedure done. I took a week and a half off work and then wore a hat for the next couple weeks. After the first two weeks my wife claimed that it was not noticeable without inspecting it closely, but I still felt uncomfortable without the hat due to the scabbing and redness. Good luck on your procedure and I am sure all will go well! I missed posting my three month pics due to traveling over the holidays. My wife and I were comparing pre and post op pics and already notice a big difference. Hopefully the hair will continue to grow and thicken over the next few months.
