is "finasterid by actavis" the same as finasteride? I am asking because active substance in finasterid ACTAVIS is FINASTERIDUM.

It appears that this company is producing legitimate and FDA approved finasteride in the US.

Actavis launches Finasteride 5mg tablets in the U.S.

 

Actavis has received approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to market Finasteride Tablets, USP 5 mg. Distribution of the product will begin immediately.

Finasteride 5mg tablets are the generic equivalent of Merck & Company’s Proscar® tablets which are indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH).

Annual sales of Finasteride 5mg tablets in the U.S. were approximately US$364 million for the twelve months ending March 2007, according to IMS Health data.

 

Whether or not you want to believe that generics are as effective as name brand is another story. I myself believe that generic finasteride is as effective as the more expensive name brand.
