Regular Member mouse666666 Posted August 15, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted August 15, 2013 Im currently taking finasteride (propecia) its really expensive. Im taking to switch to finasteride, and i have done some research. In the phase II trials, an expert panel observing a one-inch diameter circle on the vertex of the head reported the following results at 24 weeks: Placebo: - 32.3 hairs Finasteride 5 mg: + 75.6 hairs Dutasteride 0.1 mg: + 78.5 hairs Dutasteride 0.5 mg: + 94.6 hairs Dutasteride 2.5 mg: + 109.6 hairs Dutasteride - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia That means if i take dutasteride at .1mg it is almost equivalent of finsateride 5mg. Why even bother taking finasterie when i can take dutasteride. Anyone has experience with dutasteride. should i switch to dutasteride?
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted August 15, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted August 15, 2013 Mouse, Technically, only finasteride, not dutasteride, is proven safe and effective for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. Because of this, most experts recommend finasteride. There has been some research into monotherapy with dutasteride and combined finasteride/dutasteride therapy, but it hasn't been evaluated by any regulatory bodies.
