Regular Member Birdness Posted July 10, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 10, 2013 If a scar will stretch, when postop does it occur? First few months or years? What are the risk factors? Thanks
Senior Member xtatic5 Posted July 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 10, 2013 The longest estimate I've heard is 6 months post-op. After that you're supposedly safe. Risk factors are personal physiology, overtight closure, certain exercises, and generally touching your chin to your chest (i.e. while reading, sleeping, etc). I've read that if you have a loose scalp you are more prone to a stretched scar.
Regular Member reverse Posted July 13, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted July 13, 2013 Dr Feller posted a video in another thread here saying that if you have a loose scap (low collagen content_ that you may be more prone to scar stretching. Has anyone here had an HT, with a loose scalp that can comment how their scar healed? I know everyone is an individual case but how much more likely is your scar to stretch if you have high scalp laxity?
Senior Member MAGNUMpi Posted July 14, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted July 14, 2013 I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that it takes a full year for the scar to totally heal....and I thought a tight scalp made for a better chance of stretching...maybe both a tight AND a lose scalp? we need some pros here to answer this one.
