Regular Member Birdness Posted March 19, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted March 19, 2013 I am a NW 6 and been told that as a first procedure 3500 grafts at the front with 40 grafts per sq cm would give a good cosmetic result. Opinions?
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted March 20, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 20, 2013 Bird, 3,500 grafts placed at 40 grafts/cm^2 would provide thinner, lighter coverage, but still create a fairly significant transformation for a NW VI patient. However, just for some comparisons: the density of hair unaffected by androgenic alopecia is around 80-100 follicular units/cm^2; most hair transplant surgeons implant at a density of somewhere between 55-60 follicular unit grafts/cm^2; and hair loss is normally first noted after a 50% decrease in density, meaning it's noticeable at around 40-45 follicular units/cm of scalp. Hopefully, this helps provide some idea of what 3,500 grafts a 40 grafts/cm^2 density would look like on a NW VI scalp. As previously stated, I do think this would provide thinner, lighter coverage, but would likely be an improvement over the previous balding pattern. Hope this helps!
