Regular Member Marcel Posted June 3, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted June 3, 2012 Hi Guys, I had a hair transplant 3,5 months ago (FUE, 1100 grafts). There was an early and substantial growth, now new hair cover most of the transplant area. Two patches took longer to heal and I still wait for yield there. Generally, everything was fine until a couple of days ago. A couple of days ago, after a usual shower I noticed white stuff between my transplanted hair (NOT anywhere else, only where the new hair started to grow). At first I thought its shampoo or conditioner residue, but it turned out to be some small wet bits of skin peeling off. It stopped for a day or two, but now I get it virtually after every shower (hot, cold, or normal, with shampoo or without). The worst thing is that when I delicately run through my HT hair after the shower or later, some of the hair fall off with this dandruff/tiny dead skin attached. This shedding doesn’t happen each time, but still it does happen. As you can imagine I am freaking out and have no idea what to do. My surgeon claims to be a top class specialist with 20 years of HT expertise in Germany. So is it my fault? I had a perfect diet, zero sun exposure, went through the internet and all information I can find is something about bacterial infections (but peeling is only limited to the growth area, I guess bacteria would spread). I cant call my surgeon now as he is on holidays for 2 weeks or so. Even if HT hair falls out now, will it grow back later on? What can i do to stop skin peeling? This forum is an ideal place for solving all kinds of HT mysteries. What’s your opinion, suggestions? Appreciate all comments!
Senior Member Bucksred Posted June 3, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted June 3, 2012 Hi, its always best to post pictures, It's expected that the original transplant hair sheds ( it's unusual it keeps growing) is this the case with you? My opinions are my own Bucks
Regular Member Marcel Posted June 4, 2012 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 4, 2012 Bucksred, thanks for your reply. I have a mix of original, long HT hair (not many) and the new, small thin ones. The shedding affects both kinds. I will post pics later, but i cant see how it can help in my case. Regular Member Rockstar Posted June 5, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted June 5, 2012 At one month post-op, even i am having the same issue. However i understood that it is not skin but a layer of Dandruff/Mud which is formed over the head only in the transplanted area. I believe the reason for this is that i was very very gentle with my transplanted hair even after 15days so i think the mud/Dandruff was not properly washed off from the transplanted area and hence the white layer. Now, when that layer comes off the head, it brings down some hair with it. I am assuming that the hair which is coming along with this layer is the transplanted hair which should have actually fallen off but bcoz of this layer forming over that transplanted hair, it didnt fall off till now. So i hope everything is fine. But we would like to hear from any senior members on this forum or any coalition doctors or any person who has undergone HT and faced similar kind of issue to provide some valuable suggestions of how to come out of this and does this effect the growth of transplanted hair. Please Suggest. Thanks. Senior Member Janna Posted June 6, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted June 6, 2012 Hello Marcel, It sounds to me that you are going through another shed of transplanted hairs. You should be able to massage the shampoo on and rince off as you normally do without fear of losing transplanted hairs. My guess is that the tissue surrounding the transplanted grafts did not come off till now. However, if your scalp continues to flake, you should see a Dermatologist so that he can evaluate and treat it properly. Rockstar, Same as Marcel, you are going through the shed phase. In fact, you should be right in the middle of shedding and it's very likely that you did not massage all the scabs off 10 days after surgery. it's normal for transplanted hairs to shed with the scabs. The follicles/cells stay behind and they will generate new hairs soon. Best wishes to both of you. Regular Member Marcel Posted June 6, 2012 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 6, 2012 Janna, thanks for your advice. Thank God the problem lasted only for about a week. Now its back to normal. I believe that in the process i've lost some new hair (apart from the original ones), that's why I started using aminexil to make hair roots stronger. Don't want it to happen again

I went through the exact same thing but at around 3 weeks- 1 month post op. Were your results affected by the shedding at all? Im having some anxiety thinking that the hair that came out with the skin was the actual hair grafts.
