Hello Everyone..

I would like to thank everyone in this forum for being unbelievably helpful.. I mean who in the world takes out some much time for a vast array of information on hair loss, hair transplants etc.. Hmm so hello all fellow baldies.. lol..

special thanks to user simplycomplicated

When you arrive in Dr. Madhus clinic, You will be seated in a lounge with television screens displaying hair loss patients with video logs, and before and after pictures.

Anyway, I had my consultation today with Dr. Madhu’s and his staff.. It was a very comfortable experience. Despite the fact that I have been always conscious of my hair loss I was okay with the fact that this guys were running their hands through my hair and carrying out their inspections..

To kick start off the consultation, I was required to fill in a form which was later submitted to Dr. Vijayta who carried out the initial consultation. She took time to go over all that I had filled in and we walked through the whole hair loss phenomenon and she later briefed me on the hair transplantation procedure following the inspection of my donor area. I was advised to wait outside the lounge and I was taken to Dr. Madhu.

Dr. Madhu greeted me and we sat down and he started reviewing the points gathered by Dr. Vijayta and he carefully studied my donor area and estimated the no. of grafts. Following this, he drew a suitable hair line on my balding region and indicated that this would be most ideal for me to help re construct my balding region. (On a humorous note: let me frankly say at this stage, nobody else in this world including my mother apart from me has touched my hair the way that he did and I can’t believe I was able to tolerate this.. lol)

I would like to also say that at this stage I am not on any sort of medication as medications as they just didn’t work but after hearing dr. madhu’s personal opinion on this matter.. I guess I will get back on these medications to retain my native hair and try and improve the overall quality of the rest of the hair.

After visiting Dr. Madhu I was given a set of other forms to complete the formality.. Well that sums up the consultation phase… will post tomorrow for my latest experience …

I have no pictures right now but I will be posting them in time to come

Thanks...

Hi everyone..

It was thee day when I finally go through my hair transplant..

I was required to arrive at the clinic around 6am. I submitted my blood reports to one of the female doctors and she gave me various injections and took my blood pressure. Following this, she took my pre-operative pictures i.e. before hair transplant pictures. After this, I was guided back to the waiting room. I was then given the surgical attire which I put on as I waited anxiously for the next agenda.

I was then escorted to Dr. Madhu who again drew my hair line and briefed me regarding the process. After this I was taken to I guess their dissection room, they lay me down head facing downwards and my head was injected with anaesthesia to reduce the severity of the pain. It took some time before Dr. Madhu extracted a strip from the back of my head. Then he stitched the back of my head with the three layered trichophytic closure method.

I was handed over to the nurses and they worked on me with Dr. Madhu visiting occasionally to follow up on the progress. Initial estimations were that I would get a maximum of 2700 grafts but they managed to extract in total 3245 grafts.

Upon completion I was taken to a rest room where I was changed into my shirt and cleaned up again and asked to consume some medications that were provided along with snacks and orange juice.

Dr. Madhu again visited and examined the final transplantation result. He stated that the procedure has had gone well and wished me before he left to attend to other patients. Dr. Vijayta then took some time out briefing me on the medications I will need to take for the next few days. I also took time out to query her regarding side effects of using Roggaine and Propecia. She mentioned that Roggaine had little or no side effects on any of their patients and that Propecia when taken in moderation should not cause any side effects either. Prior to Dr. Vijayta’s briefing I was required to pay the balance of the total bill.

After this, I was provided a medical cap, which was put on to my head to mask the transplant and my cousin who had accompanied me was directed to guide me carefully back to the hotel and was instructed to take complete rest for the day. She also mentioned that I was required to return the next day for a hair wash. She provided me with a filed document indicating the usage of the consumption of the post-operative pills and post-operative instructions for hair transplantation.

As far as recommending Dr. Madhu.. I guess you are completely in safe hands.. but this is my first HT so I do not have a scale to measure their services.. but nonetheless the entire team is awesome!

Well this is it from me now..

Posting my pictures as well..

Thanks everyone and please let me know what you guys think about my transplant..

Thanks.

P.S. Please note that i have had some swelling during the procedure which i was informed will subside in the next couple of days or so..

Can you post a pic of your scar. I want to know how Dr Madhu's scars come out. Are they pencil thin ? On the contrary, the results are good so far. I myself am considering Dr Mahdu, but I couldn't get a vacation for the last week of December. Therefore, I will consider a HT next year.

Dr. Madhu and team have advised me to use finasteride and minoxidil 5% to maintain and possibly preserve the existing hair.. so to sum it up i guess if you want to atleast make a genuine attempt at saving your native hair.. you have to take these drugs..

Khali...

Thanks.. i have not been able to snap a picture of my scar.. it feels like a fine scar .. and now since its exactly ten days i will try to get my hair on the sides and at the back clipped thus i will be able to take pictures from the back of my head and I will post them in this thread..

On another note, I would also like to say at this stage is that Dr. Madhu did point out that it was only for my minor usage of medication i.e. (i used to use roggaine before 2011).. i had managed to save a decent amount of hair on my head.. if it werent for meds i would probably be an advanced norwood level 5..

The problem with the drugs is they don't work in the frontal zone. They just work the crown area. Also, my native hairs are very thin. I can't even gel them. So is there a point to maintain them? At the moment would prefer a bald zone over a thin zone, since the transplanted hair is thicker in comparison. Then after 5-10 years I would go for a second procedure to replace the native hair which have expired.

HT are cheap in India, so 2 procedures would be affordable.

Anyway, I like the new hair line design. It really inspires me to get a HT in India.

so rogain has managed to save you from going to narwood 5, now what i want to say is as you have started these drugs you cant afford to stop these drug for your life as it has managed your hair and also your transplanted hair otherwise you have to loose everything that it has maintained till now. right:confused:

hmmmm... i think as most people would agree.. the hair on the back of our head and sides are genetically resistant to male pattern balding.. this is not to say they eventually fall.. but this would happen at a very later stage .. maybe after 50s.. so to maintain the native hair on the top of my head (the non transplanted area).. yes i would require use of medicines.. but not to maintain the transplanted areas.. but i think consuming the medicines will also adversely improve the health of hair.. well atleast thats what the dermatologist said..

we all have a price to pay if we want to maintain our hair ...

yes.. khali.. they dont work on the frontal zone.. but there is also a hypothesis i read couple of days back... that most of the testing of these drugs have been carried out on the crown area.. but thats another topic completely..

well i think whether you would want to maintain the native hair is a personal preference.. but when we undergo transplants.. alot of patients want a full density.. which is not quite possible with the limitations of the donor area.. and the surgery itself..

thanks .. i guess dr. madhu has been consistent with his hairline designs with many of his patients

hope this helps man..

Well its been quite a journey! ..

I am into the Ugly Duckling phase.. and i gotta admit.. It JUST Ain't pretty!

But its bearable keeping in mind the bigger picture :) ..

Anyways .. after returning to my country after my hair transplant i.e. a week after my HT ..

I buzzed my hair with a 0 clip .. (hope i am phrasing this correctly) .. and two weeks following that trimming session I again buzzed my hair with a 0 clip..

Its been a month since I have clipped my hair .. But I guess I would be allowing my hair to grow now..

Anyways .. the better news is that .. I had my hair fall (i.e. implanted grafts).. although not everyone decided to fall off.. some are pretty intact.. and its almost like they are jammed.. but they are growing ..

The transplanted hair have also started to reappear but slowly and steadily and they are definitely very thin at this stage.. I am also having additional growth in my non-implanted regions beneath the hair line on the sides of the temples due to the added use of Finpecia (Finasteride 1mg) and Minoxidil 5% solution .. the appearance right now is very whispy white.. so as things transpire to become better i will continue to post pics ..

The scar area still has some shock loss.. so its kind of visible .. the scar line however is very fine.. and after my hair grows fully it should be well and truly hidden.

Well.. I am looking forward to the next few months of growth as my hair thickens and gets a more full look .. :).. Thats it from me for now..

Sorry about the quality of the pics! .. I took it from my smartphone! My cam has gone missing for some time now! ..

Ciao!...

well there are taxis available outside the airport and they can help you get to your destination .. albeit I think you should consult Dr. Madhu's team on this matter.. maybe they could provide you with a pickup car or something .. the hotel (best western jubilee ridge) is really just a 3 - 5 minutes walk from the hair transplant center..

Hope this helps buddy!..

Hello Everyone..

3rd Month Update.. I guess I am just about on time with my growth phase and all.. Almost all of the grafts on the left side of my scalp have fallen off.. few grafts still remain on the right side of my scalp.. I am noticing lots of growth (under the microscope) .. and also the familiar noticeable growth ..

Scar is near invisible now..

Can't wait for the next few months to fly by! ..

Still on Finasteride (finpecia) 1mg daily .. also 5% minoxidil twice daily ..

Congratulations on exiting the ugly duckling phase. your scar is totally unnoticeable and the hair in the back has filled in very well. Even your front and side pictures are looking good.

I guess no one can figure out that you have done HT. from now on its all the growth I guess.

BTW, my HT was one 1 month ahead of you in India as well. Take a look at my website. did you create a website for tracking your progress ?

Regards,

htrocks

Hi Everyone..

Scar at the back ... what scar?? :)

I still have few concerns regarding some of the grafts that have not shed that were implanted.

http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/164724-grafts-not-shedding-needle-like-pain.html

^ My post regarding this matter

These grafts are not growing at all.. For whatever reason they seem to have anchored themselves to my scalp.. (not tightly though) .. I managed to pluck out a couple of these grafts.. they had absolutely no signs of any hair roots .. and they just slid out instead of me having to pull it out with mild force.. I did not however continue to do this for the other grafts, realizing its only my 4th month of HT and the shedding may take place naturally in the next few months.. Because this anomaly is occurring on the right side of my scalp, there is less visible growth on the right section of my front hair line..

Apart from this I am continually monitoring my growth under a hand microscope (not under the sun for obvious reasons) and I see plenty of hair (other than the HT hairs) growing from my scalp.. However this is not quite obviously visible as of yet ..

I am continually consuming finpecia 1mg (finasteride) and applying 5% minox (twice daily) ..

anyways, Find my pictures attached (taken after shower).. Thanks ... and for everyone out there! .. All the best growing :) !!!

Hey everyone..

Well the month just breezed by.. nothing too much to talk about.. just more or less my photograph updates..

I have been in touch with Dr. Madhu in regards to any questions or queries.. but nothing out of the ordinary .. I did however find a road bump when I asked their team how many grafts have i left incase i wanted to do a 2nd HT.. for which they replied I will have to make a visit to the clinic..

I have been continually using Minox 5% and Finepecia (1mg) daily.. with the Minox though.. I have started alternating.. like one day i will apply it once during a day .. and the 2nd day I would apply it twice .. and a couple of days I did forget to apply it .. but not real damage done..

However today I found few hairs on my hands but they were not the implanted ones.. few strands from crown.. but I guess its the natural hair shedding process (thats what i would be assuming at this point in time) ..

other than this..I had a haircut 2 weeks back and i told my barber to make sure not to cut so small at the back especially because it would reveal scars.. and well he did notice a small linear scar on the right side.. but other than that.. he kept on querying me whether i did get a scar on the back as well.. i had something like a #3 with plenty of scissors trimming on the back of my head and to my surprise.. there was not scar.. after the final product..

I use toppik and I have stopped using dermmatch.. and the result is FANTASTIC .. anyways.. Cheers to the rest of you :)

Just one question though, I am using tugain 5% minoxidil solution .. I have only one bottle left .. If i switch to roggaine will it cause me to have shockloss??

Thanks..

Hello SpacificDude,

I have also done HT in madhu's clinic.its 6.5 months since I have done my HT.I got good result. I would like to use Toppik for more thickness to appear ..Can we apply both minaxodil(tugain) and toppik at a time?.....do we need to wash-out the toppik daily or can we keep it for 2 to 3 days...Please give your suggestions....Thanks in advnace

Hi hairberry

I apply tugain and let it settle in .. i.e. dry off .. There after i comb my hair according to the way i want it .. and I sprinkle the toppik just on top of my hair .. While I have heard that applying dermmatch requires our hair to be washed out properly before bed, there is no such thorough evidence as to why we cannot leave the toppik on for 2 - 3 days.. BUT having said that .. I apply minox twice a day at times.. So that means.. I need to wash out the toppik before i can put out the minox ..

The idea of applying toppik for added thickness is a compelling one, but the future outlook would be to get added thickness from hair itself (i.e. a 2nd or 3rd HT) .. because I do not like the idea of having cosmetic products on my hair all the time which can by the way be easily exposed to people with an eye for detail ...

Happy growing :)

SPacificDude,

Congratulations! Your hair is looking good at 5 months.

To answer your question, you should not experience a shed switching between two products containing 5% minoxidil.
