Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted June 28, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted June 28, 2011 KM77, Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is also known as the "strip procedure". With this method, a strip of scalp is removed from the back and sides of the head and the resulting incision is then sutured or stapled closed. The strip is then dissected under microscopes into its thousands of naturally occurring follicular units. The procedure leaves a linear scar around the back of the head. Follicular unit extraction is a procedure whereby the follicular units are extracted individually using a very small punch.
