Senior Member hairz Posted November 24, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Hello all! New to the forum but have been reading it for sometime. I am also suffering from hair loss. I wear a hat in public because of my hair and it is keeping me from living a normal life. I want to do something about it but it is confusing on which way to go. There are so many debates... one persons says one thing then another will say different. I have uploaded some pics of my hair so that you can see and hopefully be able to help me decide what is best. Mostly I want to plan for my future. I want to look good now and later. Should I go FUT? People say that they wished they could go back in time and not do FUT and go for FUE. Others say FUT is the smartest thing to do to max out and then do FUE if needed. Should I go FUE? I have read that at a younger age one should go FUE and then later decide if they would want FUT. Then I read to just shave your head because it is not worth it. Honestly, I look weird with a shaved head and would rather just keep a hat on but it gets in the way of doing things that you want to do. How does one pick a doctor? There are names going around the forum but how does one really know they are a good doctor. To me seeing pictures is not enough. I am 24 yr. old, pics attached. What would be the smartest thing to do now and for my future? well... thanks for reading and replies! Edited November 24, 2010 by hairz
Senior Member Speegs Posted November 24, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted November 24, 2010 You're just barely eligable to consider restoration, 25 is preferable but your pattern is defined and you're close enough to the age to consider. You're too advanced for FUE in my opinion, you need a good strip surgery to restore the hairline. Spend the next sixth months researching surgeons if that's what you want and make sure you're on finasteride. Hair loss patient and transplant veteran. Once a Norwood 3A. Senior Member hairz Posted November 24, 2010 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the replies! well.. I will be 25 very soon. Should I keep using finasteride even if it gives me Gynecomastia? Dr. Alexander is about 3 hours away form me I was thinking about going to him. Mentally, I don't know how much longer I can wait. I am extremely tired of wearing a hat. There are a lot of things I want to do and this is holding me back. After the HT still have to wait another six months- a year for the results. thanks! Senior Member Speegs Posted November 25, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted November 25, 2010 I just turned 27, had a norwood 3a pattern, Dr.Alexander was my choice three months ago, he gave me 2700 grafts in recipient area. i recommend him, he's ethical, realisitc, does good work and is a little cheaper than the other top doctors, if he's that close to you all the better. Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted November 25, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted November 25, 2010 hairz, Welcome to the community! There is really nothing I can add to the already excellent advice you've received here other than to say that I am also a very satisfied Dr. Alexander patient. I'm about 30 minutes drive from Dr. Alexander's office and I'd be happy to meet up with you so you can view my results in person if you find yourself in the Scottsdale area and my calendar permits. Best of luck! David - Former Forum Co-Moderator and Editorial Assistant I am not a medical professional. All opinions are my own and my advice should not constitute as medical advice.
