Bill - Seemiller
mody, Welcome to the forums. First, a few things. Most likely you are losing hair due to MPB (Male Pattern Baldness) which is very common in men. Neither weight loss (or gain for that matter) nor hair styling gel will make you lose your hair. There are some other medical conditions that can make one lose their hair as well, but this doesn't seem to be your case. In all honesty, I wouldn't consider a transplant at this point being that you are most likely just starting to lose your hair and you don't know how much more you will lose. If you aren't already, I recommend getting on finasteride ASAP. You will need a prescription for it and it can be prescribed by any medical doctor, however, I recommend getting a prescription for Proscar if you can and take 1/4 tablet daily as opposed to Propecia simply to save money. You WILL have to cut the Proscar pill, however, since a Proscar pill has 5 mg of finasteride and Propecia only has 1 mg. I hope this helps. Bill P.S. You don't have to wait until you "lose it all" (if that is even your fate) to start acting on your hairloss. However, being that you still have the majority of your hair, and only a few thin spots, I wouldn't recommend a hair transplant at this point. Senior Member MrJobi Posted January 29, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted January 29, 2007 Wise advice from a wise man. Bill is right on.. when I started losing my hair at 23 I thought it was the shampoo , allergies, or something else.. Nope.. Male pattern baldness.. Start treatment ASAP to keep what you have and maybe get back a little. Senior Member YoungGuy Posted January 30, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2007 Personally, I believe there is no reason for hair gel unless you're in the mafia From your picture you seem to have a lot of hair; get on finasteride, you really don't need a HT. A transplant is a good option for many folks, but it is an invasive procedure and bear in mind that it can cause shock loss to thei hair you currently have. This hair does usually come back, but it may not if it was destined to anyway. At the very least, don't rush things. Get on finasteride for 6 to 12 months and see where you stand; it will strengthen your hair and who knows, it may give you results you will be happy with. mody
and how can i get this finasteride?i mean what kind of doctors can give me a prescription for it?
Regular Member iwanthair Posted January 31, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted January 31, 2007 If finasterid works on you and 12 month later you like what it gave you - you will have to take it forever.
Bill - Seemiller
mody, Any medical doctor can prescribe it to you, however some doctors may not want to prescribe proscar to you since it's not technically for hairloss. Dividing the pill into quarters however, is the same as Propecia which IS for hairloss. It's a technicality. If your primary physician won't prescribe it for you...consult with an HT doctor.
