First five days you may experience some swelling, there will probably be some crusting, and redness in the recipient area. As long as you have a very loose fitting hat you should be able to explore as the swelling usually won't begin until day 3 or so.

The best thing to cover your head will probably be the surgical cap you may recieve from Dr. Feller.

I would not recommend exploring a city, especially New York city, after HT. HT is not exactly a walk in the park. You need to have some rest.

I would suggest that you visit the city before your HT and then fly back on the second day after HT before swelling starts.

I would agree, travel and enjoy life before the HT. I had lots of swelling from post op day 1-5. The only place I wanted to be was in my house away from pretty much everyones. Its very hard to predict how you will heal so be cautious when making post op plans. Cheers
